Here's some shots of the new power lines going up over the Hwy 52 Lafayette Bridge yesterday. Pretty cool watching them work. Ugly idea though.

Here's when they closed down the bridge to string the lines across it last night about 2:30am. I've been wanting to stop on that bridge for years. I instantly got out and started taking pictures. Most didn't turn out as it was -10 and windy up there and I was shaking. Very fun to do anyway.

Being lucky enough to be stopped on the bridge finally allowed me to try and get a few shots that I've always wanted.

I've never seen shots of downtown from this angle and have always wanted to be the first to get them. I love this place

I don't exactly love the idea of driving under high-voltage power lines every day to work and back :ooh: :frown:

Me neither!!! I've *never* like driving over bridges to begin with (the 35W collapse did NOT help) anyway....now I'll be nervous about what's above AND below me when I take 52.

I didn't take it, but one of my co-workers spouse submitted this to the local paper. it's about 30 miles up the hill from my work, yesterday afternoon.

Doesn't really seem like California, especially since I was wearing shorts in the 70's last week. But slushie rain drops and a high of 41 today..

I got to hold/see another Medallion this evening.

Clue Master

Awesome!! I got to be where that was originally handed out

Was it heavy or cheap feeling?
Sat, 03/12/2011 - 8:21 AM Permalink
KC0GRN

It was really heavy, solid silver. Which actually is a little cooler than the gold medals, which are just gold plated (probably because of cost and gold is a soft metal).

Here's the athlete it belongs to.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gisele_Marvin

Obviously it was the silver medal for womens hockey.

Very cool indeed. That's nice that she lets people just hold it. I know it's the same thing with the medallion. Neat

OT

I've only heard her referred to as Gigi Marvin. Had no idea her name was actually Gisele.

KC0GRN

Yeah I didn't know that either till I looked it up.

Nice person, a very committed athlete. She's a cousin of someone from my church, hence how she showed up last night for a kids program.

Yeah it was kind of weird, she was very mellow about her medal, in fact her cousin was the one carrying it around mostly. I think she downplayed it some as I got the impression it wasn't about winning a medal, but having a passion for something. Heck when she left she was going home to catch the score on a game of hockey her brother was playing.

Oh, interesting fact I found out, the US Olympic athletes we basically given a clothing store to go and outfit themselves for the olympics (the major rule of course being they had to wear only these clothes because of sponsors), but essentially they all got way more clothing than they could use. Apparently GiGi went home from the 2010 games with 10 extra suitcases of clothes that got passed around for family and friends.

Funny

I'd like my funeral to start 17 minutes late kinda like Liz Taylor did. Need to stay consistent till the very end.
