Sorry to be absent so long. I was busy moving and my girlfriend was in the hospital for an appendectomy and been busy with other stuff. I do have a problem I need some help with. Luckily it's sort of a fun problem. I am hosting a Murder Mystery Singles Mixer this Saturday and I need more single men! Normally I am charging $30 a person for this (which includes dinner), but at this point I need bodies and will let guys in for whatever they are willing to chip in. So if you are a single guy or know of any, let me know. Here's the write up for the event:
The Murder Mystery Mixer
Do you feel like trying to meet people in Minnesota is just murder? Do Speed Dating, Lock and Key, and Happy Hour events leave you unsure of how to kill the tension when trying to talk to someone new? Then try a new type of mixer with a twist (of the knife that is!) Join us (the producers of Singlearity) at the Mermaid in Moundsview on Saturday, August 20th for the Murder Mystery Mixer.
How does it work?
There will actually be two mysteries going on at once. The women will be playing the parts of the witnesses and suspects as the men try to deduce which of them is the killer. At the same time, the men are the witnesses and suspects in their own murder case which the women are trying to solve. Each witness can give you a bit of information eliminating people with certain traits. But you must also talk with each suspect to see who possesses those traits. Only by talking to everyone can you narrow down the pool to just one guilty perpetrator. Of course while you're grilling your suspect (and they are grilling you) feel free to chat about other things as well. Then perhaps at the end of the night you'll find more than just a murderer.
Registered participants will be sent their character the week prior to the event. The setting is modern day, but the event takes place at the elegant Garden Tent at the Mermaid, so dress to impress. The event starts at 6pm and when you arrive, you'll get a scoresheet to help you track the witnesses and suspects. You can also note who you find interesting personally. You'll have two hours to try and talk to everyone and gather your evidence. Meanwhile, there will be a buffet of heavy appetizers you can graze from. At 8pm you'll be asked to indicate who you think is guilty and if you're correct, you'll be eligible to win a prize. After the mixer, we will then have a dance starting about 8:30 until 11:30. The dance is free for all singles to attend, even if you did not participate in the murder mystery. For those who do attend the mixer, you can also turn in your scoresheet at the end of the night, indicating who you might want to have
further contact with. If they indicate you as well, then you'll be given each other's contact information.
The murder mystery, appetizer buffet, and dance are all included in one price of $30. However pre-registeration and pre-payment are required as space is limited. We will have two age groups (Over 40 and 40 or less) and 13 members of each gender for each (52 spots total). The spots are likely to fill quickly, especially for women, so register soon. You can register at http://singlescon.com/Murder.html and pay by Paypal or most major credit cards.
Sooooooo   .... if anyone would like to come for beer, wine, pop, and food on Sept 10th aaaaaand help move some items to my new place....I'd love to see you. beginning about 11 am to when ever. I have lived in the same place 14 years and now EVERYONE decides to move the same year I do. I think we are all on the same cycle.... Remember when so many Cooler were out of work at the same time? And so many Cooler were divorcing near the same time?
I though I heard once that 20% of women have it going on at the same time at any given time. huh. I think the Cooler beats that theory.
It depends on how technically inclined you are, and how much you care to mess around with things.
Most cells are fairly durable. The biggest problem these days are the large flat panes of glass, since most smart phones are essentially miniature tablets. Those are notoriously bad if you cram them in a pocket, unless you get some fancy case to put them in. Yes there are some made with better glass that doesn't break as much, but theres always the exceptional circumstance.
After looking at them at the store, I'm probably leaning to iPhone4, but the store price is more than the internet price I listed - with the full blown accessory kit (case, screen protectors, charger, earbuds) at the store it's around $180
There are a couple smart phones that are very much cheaper with accessory kits. LG Enlighten and Samsung Stratosphere are a great deal cheaper. Battery life is something iPhones are NOT good at - but are any of the newer ones?
Since I have iTunes on an older Mac, and the V-Cast Verizon music software is such a turd, I may just have to charge that up before the hunt. My older phone's earphone jack is toast, and the battery only lasts about 7 hours idle - even less when it is cold.
If you're not gonna use it for browsing or anything involving an app I wouldn't get something like the iphone. I found my old BB to be much more durable than any of the newer LTEs including my Rezound.
Not sure about the new iPhone, but the battery wasn't removable in the previous model. Andriod phones usually have easy access to replace the battery. If you can get at the battery, you can have a spare to put in on those -20 degree nights.
Yeah, gotta have a removable battery. That 'planned obsolescence' thing really pisses me off with consumer electronics. It's probably the main reason why I never jumped on the iPod bandwagon when that started up. I'm not going to buy a $400 anything that's planned to take a dump in 2 years. I have shoes that have lasted longer. I am very wary of any cell phone for that very reason.
I may have to charge a couple bucks each for those window stickers to help aid the 'Mad_Dach5und' cell phone fund.
Yeah I can agree with you there. It took me a while to even want to switch to rechargeable batteries in most AA battery devices, but I came around when they started offering NiMH hybrids that actually held a charge longer than a couple weeks for low power consuption applications like TV remotes.
The idea of having a rechargeable battery that can't be replaced is insulting. The rest of the electronics in a device can far outlast how long the battery will continue to accept a charge. But of course companies want to keep making money by selling you a new device every year or two, so they have no incentive to offer a replaceable battery (let alone one that isn't a proprietary size and shape unlike an industry standard AA).
that's the beautiful thing about iphones (from an apple profit perspective). they get you on applecare, knowing that the glass will break before the battery dies anyway
If the lamp just needs new wiring, I can do it for nothing - but if you have broken ceramics; no freakin' way I'm spending a week with a hot glue gun fixin' it. Leave that to the pros.
I do want the lamp rewired, as the cord is too short, but that is not the main problem. The socket is loose. Please see photo and let me know if this is something you can help with. I'd be happy to drop it off and pick it up. Thanks!
Is the socket a simple screw-in mount? Tightening it up should be easy except for the wire curling up inside of it. Check to see if the brass mount is broken/sheared off - if it is, you may have a dead unit. Soldering brass back together is messy and almost never holds for very long.
Once you asked about whether it has a screw-in mount, I took a closer look. Figured out how to take the harp off so the socket could be screwed back in - must have come loose during the move. I can live with the short cord, so I think I'll just call it good.
Sometimes if the lamp gets twisted/spun around during the move, the inner wire cord gets coiled and can get tight enough it can force the socket to untwist. Make sure you check that inner wire for any cracks/breakage/overtwisting because that might cause problems down the line.
While I'm currently looking for a job that will pay me a little more cash - it doesn't help these few months as year when I need it, so I am looking for opportunities to earn some extra cash buy doing an odd job here and there.
If you or if you know of anyone needing my services please let me know and/or pass along my number 651-334-9680.
My skill set is as diverse and the jobs I am open to do. I'm available for cheap babysitting (I come with 23 years of being an experienced mom)... I can house sit or clean your house, dog sit or walk your dog... Need a room painted or wall papered, I can do that... I can organize, arrange, prepare a variety of different social gatherings, parties or dinners.... I'm also a certified wedding planner and will offer up my services at a reduced rate if you know of anyone looking...or I can help with centerpiece arrangements for that special day.
I have a friend (from grade school actually) that does made to order hand knit stuff...I only mention the connection because she quite often does things like a Bridal Wrap....If you'd like I could pass on your #, just in case she has a client that is looking for something that you're able to provide
I'm very sorry sunshine :frown:
talk to the hand buddyboy!
I'm awfully sorry -
big hugs honey :frown:
thank you Diggs for getting that to her
If you are available to help me around the Noon hour this Friday (Aug 19) I want to get the last load of items moved to my apartment..
Items: a desk, file cabinet, a shelf/cabinet, a large trunk, and about a dozen boxes.
Please contact me if you can help so I can determine if I can make this happen!
Thank you!!

I have a delicate 10 K gold bracelet that is twisted metal - beginning to rip.
It's not a herringbone.

base of the socket into the harp. Then reassemble the socket.
This will allow the wire to remain twist free while the socket
base is threaded onto the harp/lamp base.
