Yeah, we were pretty close, not a lot of people understood me like she did, mainly because we thought a lot alike.

On a side note, I found that blanket, so I can go to sleep now.

sorry to hear that kc. glad you found the blanket. its been 15 years since my grandfather passed suddenly, and i still remember my dad going out and mowing my grandmother's grass because that's what grandpa would have done.

The day my father died I went over to my parent's house and planted his garden. He always had a huge vegetable garden and I just felt like I had to do that for him. Interesting how we deal with a loved ones death.

Thanks OT, it'll be on my bed for a long time to come I think.

We have a lot of family coming in this week. I assume the funeral will be pretty large, my grandmother knew a lot of people. *sigh* some family are already calling Dibs on some of Grandma's things. I can't really think of anything right now that I'd want that reminded me of her. I guess the blanket already does that. One thing that I thought would be a good memory was he coffee table, made of burlwood, I think most of the grandkids have memories of running around that table and getting some pretty bad injuries. So of course, most of the grandkids would want it. But it's just one table, and I'm not going to scrap over it.

I'm sure that will be one of many things that family will want. I'm just not one to speak up right away and claim things, I think my grandmother would feel the same way. After all, they're just things, not worth fighting over. I guess I'm just not sure I want to be there when people are picking through things.

Sorry KC :frown: She sounds like a big loss for you.

just remember that when the rest of the family are rummaging through the house for items to nab you can always be hanging out in the garage behind the wheel of her Caddy

Amen to that. Actually, things seemed a little calmer this evening, so I was thankful for that. I got to have a good conversation with my aunt about some... issues.. in the family. Things we really have no control over, but it was good to discuss them, as they've gone unspoken for far too long.

When my Grandmother died, she had several coffee cans filled with cookies in her freezer. She often did baking ahead of time, just in case company came over and needed something with coffee.

Anyhoo, best we could estimate was that the cans of cookies were about a year old, as her health was not great toward the end. I was just out of college, and free food was free food.

Turns out below the cookies was about 5 grand in cash, split amongst the cans. Depression era mindset, you know. I gave the money to the executor, mind you, but I still think it is funny.

When my Great Grandmother died my mom and her siblings found cash, jewels, and valuables hidden throughout her home. Same mindset.

My B&N bills lately have been fairly steep, although the series I've been reading has older books that are about $6 each. Still adds up....it's like having a boat...a black hole.

edina doesn't surprise me. its always been half a store. like one of the very original sized stores. lakeville does since its relatively new, but not in the greatest location off of 35 and 185th. i actually watched someone pee on the side of the building there this past thanksgiving waiting for it to open for black friday. i think i might have the pic on my phone too.

If anyone likes to play board games I'm hosting a big board game event at the Mermaid in Moundsview, next Saturday, April 28th. We have the Atlantis ballroom from 8am to 1am with 6,000 square feet to play games in. There is a cost of $10 a person but that also includes pizza. Specifically I ordered 75 large pizzas which we'll start serving at 11am and it should be basically all you can eat. If you haven't been to the Mermaid before, it is two exits north of 694 off 35W. The actual address is 2200 County Rd. 10, Moundsview, MN 55112. You should see at least a few familiar faces there so come out and join us!

My daughter is participating in the Run for the Cure in Washington, DC on June 2nd (my birthday). My mother is a breast cancer survivor now for over 30 years. If you would like to donate to the cause, the link to donate and support this effort is Here - Race for the Cure

She's doing this with people she works with at the National Naval Medical Center.

4th of July

so looking at a link for fireworks in Mpls tomorrow, The very last line.... um, can anyone see fireworks from BEHIND A TREE in any city? No peanut gallery from Ares  - I just thought this a dumb statement.

Where's the best place to see Minneapolis' fireworks?

The fireworks are launched from Water Power Park, in the middle of the Mississippi River. The two closest bridges, the Stone Arch Bridge and the Central Avenue bridge have great views, as do many spots in St. Anthony Main and along the West river Parkway near the Mill City Museum or in Gold Medal Park. Nicollet Island Park affords good views as long as you are not behind a tree.
