To: J, go directly to your official city of St. Paul map (which I help produce) and take a look. It's named Prosperity Hts. Park. Yes your absolutly right about the hunt. It did start in 1952 and as I said before 1950 SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're Welcome CK1, Just trying to keep it clean!!!

Now, tell me where is this Prosperity hts. park? this is worth investigating? And M.K.I.A., is the map you produce on-line?

Sorry about this in advance but i just want to see if y'all would add anything to it:

Clue 1

The season has begun for wintry fun

And here's what you need to know

If you want to end up as the lucky one

(first reference to "one")

A St. Paul park is where you must go

(it's in St. Paul!)

Clue 2

In the neighborhood are water and woods

(street names; golfing; drinking fountain; actual water+trees?)

And lots of scenery all around

(how come he used the word lots instead of alot? Referring to flower planters- little lots (Planters) of flowers around?)

So if you want to find the hidden goods

(hidden falls? too obvious!)

Look for a place with high ground.

(mounds, hills, cliffs, plateaus, or maybe he means the medalion is not on the ground but is high up)

Clue 3

Roses don't bloom in winter's gloom

(thorn street?)

But a "Rosebud" could still give pleasure.

(Rosebud brand sleds?)

So watch for a place where kids like to zoom,

(Zoom: flying, sledding, sliding, swinging)

And you just might take home our treasure.

Clue 4

A large object in view will help guide you,

(the airport beacon, the capitol, the big "one")

But first you'll have to crack our code.

So here's a demo of the mode to pursue,

(two domes from demo and mode= the capitol and Cathedral)

As you hunt for the mother lode.

(Lode= river, vein of lead)

Clue 5

We'd be the first to say that a place to play

(Second reference to "one"; Playground, tennis court, b-ball court/fields)

Can make any winter more pleasurable

(warming house, indoor sports?)

City streets will also show you the way

(Urban Pl. and Suburban Blvd)

To riches that are almost immeasurable

(???????????????.........

hi everyone

tried looking up mother load in the dictionaryand it said- overlook could that be any help

Someone mentioned Citizen Kane earlier. As far as I know the name of the SLED was Rosebud.

Kathy

My Mom was saying that riches immeasurable might mean "Mounds of riches", which might refer to Mounds Park... Just a thought!

Lode in the dictionary also refers to a waterway. Mother Lode (Mississippi river). I agree with the reference to 1's, that's the firstbank sign. People are reading too much into the rosebud clue, it simply means sledding (Citizen Kane). I like the dome, mode, demo corolation, that's wither the capitol or cathedral. I like the Urban street argument and the measureable is probably what it's in. A cup perhaps.

any ideas what the "large object" is

Thu, 01/29/1998 - 11:20 AM Permalink
No user inform…

and just how big is the coin anyway

like a quarter?

Thu, 01/29/1998 - 11:23 AM Permalink
Kathy

ill find it - I think one year it was hidden inside an Oreo cookie, so I tkink it's about the same size.

Thu, 01/29/1998 - 11:25 AM Permalink
CK1

C Wheaton- good call on the "Almost Immeasurable" = cup theory

Mr. K I A, we are spliting hairs over the same park, I just don't see it there. P.S. are your maps on line?

Thu, 01/29/1998 - 11:29 AM Permalink
Mr. Know It All

Sorry, The only thing on line at this time (map) is just the immediate Downtown area.

Thu, 01/29/1998 - 11:31 AM Permalink
Mr. Know It All

Yep Same Park

Snowball 2

Maybe I am digging too hard.

Immeasuarable= Unable to be measured, quantified.

Scale= Unit used to measure.

What is a scale that you can't measure with?? A Musical Scale!!!

Do any of our fore-runner parks have summer (or winter?) music festivals??

The best place to hide something is the last place anyone would look.

The last place anyone would look is where it was hidden last time.

Near last year's site you can see the como observatory dome, the sledding hill on McMurray field, and a city street that shows you the way (midWAY parkWAY). There are many water sources and woods (both trees and golfing) and winter places to play (ski hills and broomball rinks). But, perhaps the clincher is "Rosebud". Directly between the dome and the sledding hill, close to midway, is a plaque to Larry Hodgson which reads "he left the roses here". I.e. he was a buddy to roses or a rose bud. Coincidence? Perhaps.

Desire-to-win

I think the best idea is not to read a lot into the clues. As a previous winner said. Go back to the basics.

Thu, 01/29/1998 - 11:38 AM Permalink
Desire-to-win

I agree with Laura. What better place than last year. Great idea. Thanks for the info.

CK1

Snowball2 Is it significant that it says "Almost Immeasurable" meaning it can still be measured?

Thu, 01/29/1998 - 11:47 AM Permalink
Kathy

This is a long shot - so don't get mad at me - but has anyone noticed that the word "so" is listed three times in the clues, all on the third line? Now, I was looking at my city map, and the train tracks under Mounds Park is for the S.O.O. Railroad. What do you think? Coincidence?

Thu, 01/29/1998 - 11:47 AM Permalink
Kathy

If you rearrange the letters in "almost", you can spell "am lost". I don't know about you, but I certainly feel that way!

think we need to wait for tonights clue, that should narrow it down to the exact park. too confusing for me still, mounds is my guess, somewhere in the location of the playground

Thu, 01/29/1998 - 12:03 PM Permalink
Desire-to-win

There's a lot of people looking at Mounds as we speak. If it's there, it'll probably be found today.

Hey, all. Lots of new folks are getting in on the action. Good to see. I haven't come up with much more since last night, but I'm staying in the Mounds camp. The "city streets" clue comes at the right time because this is about when they start bordering the medallion. Since I'm about 300 miles from the dig site: I was hoping for some eyes on a few questions. Is the Mounds playground pretty well dug up? How are the sightlines to the more obvious points of reference? Does it look like there could be more burial mound trouble this year or are people behaving? My guess is that the playground is simply visible and that it's not in the playground area. I spent too much time digging up the Harriet Playground to fall for that one again.

Desire-to-win: I wouldn't count on it being found yet. Somehow the trampling masses manage to miss the mark more years than not. It has been found after five or six clues before, so anything's possible, but it tends to take an average of about 10 clues.

Thu, 01/29/1998 - 12:20 PM Permalink
Desire-to-win

Harriet Island is considered low ground. Unless, there's a play on words. However, Clue #2 states that there's lots of scenery "all around" ... island is surrounded by water. Huh..

Does anybody think it's at Cherokee park or Prosperity Heights?

Thu, 01/29/1998 - 12:33 PM Permalink
Troy Mclure

I think your all wrong, look to the Indians you should,

Located near the streets of water and wood.

Thu, 01/29/1998 - 12:33 PM Permalink
Desire-to-win

Clue 1: St. Paul Park

Clue 2: Water & woods (water could be a fountain and not necessary a lake or river)

Clue 3: Rosebud: a sled Kids - sledding

Clue 4: Dome - Capital Mother lode - ? Large object: beacon

Clue 5: City streets - Suburban, Urban, Parks: Prosperity or Mound Riches almost immeasurable - no limits or boundaries

What else?

Thu, 01/29/1998 - 12:35 PM Permalink
Troy Mclure

Does the clue "RoseBud" have to do with Citizen Cane, Sledding, or an Indian reservation?

Thu, 01/29/1998 - 12:37 PM Permalink
Desire-to-win

The Indians use to look to the stars or the sun for guidance. Any thought on this.

Thu, 01/29/1998 - 12:37 PM Permalink
Itsinmypocket

Cherokee Park-think about it, woods, water(Miss.River) scenery. There's a big hill for kids to zoom on, it's on high ground. The rosebud clue is about Rosebud® sleds, so I'll be seein y'all at Cherokee Park.
