2013 - Cherokee Heights Park

"West" "western" reference in Don't Fence Me In and "ridge" also "hovel" which is a run-down shack (Swede). So West of Crosby? It's a stretch... just thinking outloud.

Or West of Swede toward Crosby Park?

"Spotting" is also a rock-climbing term. You "spot" someone climbing without ropes, like that photo posted here earlier.

I do feel like they are hitting us over the head with Crosby...but it does not sit right with me either. Maybe.....because clue one said they were going to deceive us with red herrings, therefore the obvious is NOT it. But I will be hunting in Crosby

I had enough of the the dred herring at the Fargo Sons of

Norway on the 13th.

Lutefisk, spuds, butter, butter, butter + meatballs and gravy,

peas and carrots, and the solid red jello.

I'm going to crosby for a look around and then

to the crashed ice trials.

Holiday Inn follows Bing Crosby as he leaves his upscale, New York City showbiz life to live on a farm.

that's what worries me, qm. they've hit us over the head with a lot of things before, that turned out to be incorrect.

What I see missing is a street name. Unusual to not have a street name with this many clues.

My sister (tatergirl) got me hooked on this medallion hunting back in 2005. I'm hoping for another Crosby year......last day of work, then off for 4 days! Yahoo!

I also really enjoyed the Crosby hunt. That was when I started getting to know people in the CC. It was also the year I went through 2 cases of Gluek's Honey Bock. 8.6 ABV and might tasty.

I was thinking more about this last night... two references to fence. Don't fence me in -- could also be referencing the farm that used to be there. The farm was located on the west end so - look where animals were fenced in - or don't look there?

I was also thought of the verb fence mean to enclose something (usuallly animals)- SHEPHERD (rd) will lead you there.

Ooooohhh I like that noodle. I was on BC for clues 3 & 4. While the KISS method is saying Crosby. There is still something bugging me (maybe the red herring clue is messing with me).

I'm also bugged by the - yellow doesn't rhyme redbull and Don't fence in is mostly known for Roy Rogers.

You could still make could arguements for BC at this point.

Just to play devil's advocate for BC...

Yellow Mashed Rice -- I played around with this one for some time. Mashed Rice anagrams to Archimedes. While he was known for many scientific breakthroughs - One crazy idea he had was a heat ray (using hundreds of polished metal shields) to reflect the sun and ignite invading wooden ships. (they tested this theory on Mythbusters) Kind of like a primitive laser.

Yellow + heay ray = Sunray

I don't really believe that as a clue explanation, but it was fun to read.

Maybe totally off but..... I live in NE Mpls and we have a load of wild turkeys over here, they were even on the news. Are there any parks that are known for having turkeys?

They live along the bluffs here in So. St. Paul, so it wouldn't be a stretch to think they probably live along the bluffs in St. Paul also.

Reading through and thinking clues most of the day while I was working, I think the park needs to have some vision of the crashed ice event.

From memory that would be Cherokee, Harriet Island, Upper Landing, Indian Mounds.

I believe the Crosby-Astair is actually a stair (one or a stairway = up and down), not Crosby. Don't fence me in is more connected to Roy Rogers than Crosby.

The park of the 4 mentioned above that get gobbled up by the river during floods is Harriet Island. If you follow the river steps down and keep going, you would be gobbled up by the river as well. There are also steps as you go through the archway in that park.

There is much more activity at Harriet Island related to jogging, walking your dog and bringing your honey to park and sit than Crosby.

I think Crosby could be the red herring.

If I end up at Harriet when the Como clue comes out as the 10th clue, it would be like a repeat nightmare, but for now, I've moved away from thinking Como as my #1 pick and replaced it with Harriet Island.

I also think instead of digging around trees we may be raking the levee.

I also figured the don't fence me in could be reference to the old jail across from Harriet.

When it comes down to the final late-night firefly dance (probably Tuesday night?), I'm kind've curious to know if we could do a Skype video conference call -

http://www.ehow.com/how_6104272_hold-video-calls-once-skype.html

Someone with a smart phone could run their video camera, but it would probably constantly need the flash light for illumination that would burn out a cell phone battery in minutes. Has anyone tried this before outside? I know a portable battery changer pack ($25-30) could help keep the juice going for a while longer - I'm just curious who HAS Skype and would subscribe to see if it can happen?

Originally written in 1934 for Adios, Argentina, an unproduced 20th Century Fox film musical, "Don't Fence Me In" was based on text by a poet and engineer with the Department of Highways in Helena, Montana, Robert (Bob) Fletcher. Cole Porter, who had been asked to write a cowboy song for the 20th Century Fox musical, bought the poem from Fletcher for $250. Porter reworked Fletcher's poem, and when the song was first published, Porter was credited with sole authorship.

Wasn't the old sheriff named Bob Fletcher? Where did he live?

I am not a Como fan, but don't forget there was a jail/workhouse in/at/near Como years ago too - like in the late 50's (?)

If it isn't Crosby, Harriet Island seems plausible. I wish I remembered someone's noodle from last night more clearly, ....had something to do with the letters left over -- over from WHAT I don't remember, but the letters were H I, and the poster was indicating HI-land, but it could just as easily be H arriet I sland, if in fact it made sense at all in the first place.

Mad Dog, wouldn't it be easier to just get a flashlight or lantern for the extra light?

Mad_Dach5und

Probably - just not sure how the video function works on the phones - does the light come on automatically if it's dark?

It really makes no difference because just lighting up the touch screen alone on a lot of phones - much less cold ones - really kills batteries fast anyway.
