Not many people know this, but on the Meddle album, the song Seamus has what sounds like a dog singing. In fact, it's really Bing Crosby and the song was going to be called "Bark on a Tree". That's on wiki too. Or it will be shortly anyway.

Hello! I'm here! Everyone's brains must be frozen this year.

It's so hard to narrow down a park this year.

We are just back from HI. Saw two people walking around with tools meant for digging. Otherwise didn't see anyone else digging, but saw other folks driving around so I'm sure they were scouting.

There is an shelter with picnic tables that is all fenced in. That was an unexpected find.

Frozen makes me think of something stuck in one place, which reminds me of how those old Bing Crosby vinyl records would sometimes get stuck and repeat the same thing over and over.

Drove by last night on my way home and there were about 8 cars there.

Me2 talked about Astair= 1 stair vs stairs... found it interesting that the sign at Harriet called the steps leading down as the Grand Stair.

Still don't think it's there though... thinnest layer of snow there and no woods.

Well I'm convinced ... now if they come out on clue 10 and say "go to grounds that rhymes with rounds"... well I'm just going to find me the nearest clock tower.

I can only hope that they are baiting us for Crosby right now and will lead us 'up the hill' with the next few clues. It's getting tougher to spin these clues for other locations.

I also thought "spotting a fence" may have something to do with the criminal activity that goes down in Crosby in the Summertime. Anyone have some hot jewelry they want taken off their hands?

My mom was at Crosby yesterday, my sis is heading to Highland today I think. I'm in ND so I can't hunt, except from afar. If it were me I'd be checking out the sightlines at Highland - I think there is a place where you can see Crosby from Highland, I just don't know if there is a place where you can see the Cathedral from Highland as well.

It's driving me batty because you have to second guess yourself every time wondering if you're really on to something or if it a red herring!

ruderat found T and A: Warrior Women: fens (Traditional Cache) at 1/24/2013

Log Date: 1/24/2013

Searching for the puck but had no luck

Went up and down and all around

Saw beacons and cans with logs inside

Figured it was a geocache hide

Fence and Fens made sense to me

but couldn't quite reach that far away tree

The cooler crew knows the treasure I seek

And if I find it I'll totally freak

So off I go once replacing the cache

Back to the fence where I slipped with a crash

The clues make no sense but they did bring me here

Now I'm at home with a frost bitten ear

To the warrior who's names on the cache

I look forward to seeing you at a geocache bash

To the hider I say good luck with your search

I know where it's not as I sit on my perch

Thank you! Glad to be here! Still trying to figure out the format of these messages - it seems like they're all in one line, rather than divided into different subjects like on the PP site.

yup. makes it easier (we think) to keep track of where you are reading in the forum. much harder to keep tabs on 50 or 60 different threads of conversaiton.

I checked the IP address of whoever made that change - it was someone in Minneapolis. The other wiki red herring (about the yellow mashed rice in the Rice Park wikipedia page) seemed more legit - that IP address was from inside the Pioneer Press building. That one was the Clue Writer giving us a legit red herring, this second was a copycat.

I agree 100%! Does anyone else think it is kind of pointless to focus on what the medallion will be hidden in? Because when you're out hunting, you look in every single thing you find (even dirty diapers!), so it's not like you're going to come across some item and think, "well since this isn't a CD of Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire I'm not going to look in it."

Probably the only reason to think about what the medallion is hidden in is to remind ourselves that not every clue phrase necessarily relates to *where* the medallion is hidden.
    Fri, 01/25/2013 - 11:53 AM Permalink
    Terry

And to remind yourself not to put THE item back where you found it.

People on AW's board believed that whole Wikipedia Newell thing. Sigh...

Anyway, I'm really trying to alter my perception about Crosby, just so I don't get mind lock. Can anyone come up with a better noodle for:

    Winter allows what summer forbids.

than ice climbing? You need a permit to ice climb in the winter. You can only do it at Lilydale, Crosby, or Shadow Falls (below Summit Ave.).

Yes, I know you could say ice skating or skiing or sledding, but those seem wholly too generic. Plus, you aren't allowed to climb in the summer. Thus, you are forbidden.

Now, if someone wants to make the argument that Lilydale and Harriet Island are one park and this clue refers to the Lilydale section of the one large park, then maybe I could get on board with Harriet Island.

    Allison Wonderland

Some places like Battle Creek require a permit for cross country skiing. But maybe it's not so legal and more conceptual like an ice palace.

    leelabell

That's true, AW. But, I don't think so. That line is the clue in this clue.

Maybe it is between HI and Lilydale along the river? (I haven't been there in a long time so I can't picture that area in my head.)

For any newbies who have posted a couple of times and not gotten a response -- don't feel we are ignoring you. At clue release time everyone is googling, anagraming, looking at maps, etc and are trying to come up with some solid noodles. And everyone is posting at the same time. So don't think you input is not valued. It takes awhile to get to know a large group of people - plus there are alot of subgroups within that go back many years.

While I tend to be wordy without the eloquence of AW -- let me just say WELCOME.

I am just wondering if anyone is thinking really outside of thebox...

Perhaps not even in a park. It has yet to even mention Park...Public land only....

I kept insisting it wasn't at TS last year, but now, I am doing the same...Insisting it isn't at Crosby...

I just hope it isn't found tonight....I love going out to dig and don't want to drive an hour for nothing!!!!
