Welcome to the group Cindy! I'm on the Crosby bandwagon I don't think they'd put it anywhere other than a large park these days with the number of people hunting for it. They haven't put it somewhere smallish in a decade so maybe I gues that could be the shift they refer to....but I don't think so
Has anyone is the Crosby camp come up with a meaning for the Wheel of Fortune? At Gabe's the other night someone was pointing out an oddity in the Deed is Done video. If you take the year of each find (the most recent one), and add the number of finds for that park, they all add up to 10. And now we have the Wheel of Fortune which is also number 10 in the Tarot deck. Makes me wonder if it could be a reference to Lilydale or the Harriet/Como debacle of 10 years ago (yes it's been 10 years since Horton heard a who!)
Texsis belongs to an art group...she doesn't scrapbook. And no, there are no Archiver's in the DFW area! I think her record was 6 hours. I am not exaggerating...not one bit.
no, she does art projects with paper, embellishments, and some tasteful stamping. She really creates some beautiful things, some of which are functional (photo and momento books, wall art such as countdowns to Halloween or Christmas...stuff like that)
This is hilarious and really has nothing to do with St. Paul:
"In the end, she solved the Bonusland Puzzle, PINKY RING, which earned her the car, a 2013 Fiat 500C Pop convertible valued at $21,950. She received another $5,000 in courtesy cash to boot. Earlier in the show she won a trip to Aruba, valued at $5,700. But the highlight was solving the final puzzle before the bonus round, BARKING UP THE WRONG TREE, which resulted in a $30,000 cash prize."
CROSBY SUMMARY - I'm not saying this is for sure but PLEASE pay attention to #1!
1) Ok I think I posted this before but everyone PLEASE NOTE! "Yellow Mashed Rice" = "Homer Elway Sliced"! Homer and Elway are streets that are literally right above Crosby!
Also, in other years they have given the clue away that early.
3) "Winter allows what summer forbids" In winter you can walk on the frozen water, which you're not allowed to swim in during the summer.
4) There is a fence all along Shepherd Road
5) Bark on a tree - last time at Crosby it was on bark
6) It is so easy to second-guess yourself and over-think things. I still think Crosby is the most realistic with what we have so far.
Just wanted to provide a concise summary. What does everyone think of that Homer Elway Sliced clue??? That was not my discovery, I think it came from the yahoo site.
Wheel of Fortune = Wheeler St. seems most logical.
The street itself is literally a block or so from the entrance to Crosby Park. It's at least six blocks away from Highland.
The 'Official' explanation of last year's clue was that "Think outside the box" was to look OUTSIDE the city of St. Paul. "Another shift is due" probably means look INSIDE the city this year. It's a pretty 'clean' explanation - and doesn't require any over-thinking of the clue itself.
I'm not buying that anagram - but I'd be willing to wager one of the next couple clues would reference a Shepherd's Crook or something to do with sheep herding to lock in Crosby for good.
Hit HI and Crosby for a bit today. Only a few people at HI, more at Crosby. Man it's icy out there. If it's in St. Paul, I guess Crosby is as good as it gets. I'm still not convinced that the shift is referring to bringing it back to St. Paul.
Crosby just feels like the red herring. I'm hoping that tonight's clue will nail down the park, just not sure it's going to be Crosby.
Drove through Long Lake today because it's so close to home, like the fact that there's the history center there with a train car right next to it. Thinking the wheel reference could be referring to trains.
Also like the MN History Center, James J Hill House and Kellogg confluence, but with so much activity in that area, I'm sure it's not there, but things fit well.
Just my random thoughts. Oh and if the wind would stop blowing it would be very tolerable out there. Turn off the fan already!
I say this honestly. I don't think we've ever really been thrown a red herring. Ever. And, that includes the Harriet/Como year. The triple E clue was plain as day. Some of us just didn't solve it correctly.
"Think outside the box" = cache box reference; ties in with high tech. Points to Crosby with all those caches (I posted map earlier).
"Winter allows what summer forbids" = gotta be a Winter Carnival reference. Winter allows the WC officially. Thus, Winter allows the med hunt/Vulcan/Kate/Ice Princesses, etc, and summer forbids it (except for AW hunts but his aren't WC related).
Remember the year we could ask the clue writer questions? I submitted one about why the clues always just said park, park, park, park, etc. I did get a response. He said we complain too much when the hunt is too easy.
Now, that isn't a good response. A good clue writer should be able to write clever enough clues that limit the area in the park without giving away the whole thing too soon.
"Winter Allows what Summer Forbids" would also be Ice Palaces. List all the parks that had an Ice Palace; perhaps it is in one of those parks. Ties in with Reprise.
I don't like the anagram - 'Elway' is football, 'Homer' is baseball - that's too obscure to expect the masses to tie it together.
My guess is that clue references it's hiding container - Saffron or Yellow Rice mix box? Maybe using the play on the words "Thyme" would make Risotto mix?
ugh I so wish there was that stupid like button again...I hate responding I like that noodle to everyone I see because it just clogs up the board so suffice to say I've seen some great ideas this afternoon I like!
I like that there is the upper and lower path along the bluff I don't know that I've seen anyone mention this yet.

2) Yes, the references are obvious, but in 2005 they gave away Crosby with a really obvious "What Christmas" reference in Clue #2. http://coolercrew.com/treasure_hunt/PioneerPressTreasureHunt/2005
