So just got back from the Bruce Vento Nature Sanctuary. It's actually a pretty large area. There're lots of people down there right now. There's a car wash, an old brewery, the Bruce Vento Trail, and a dog park. But thinking about Clue 9 more it seems as though the streets referenced may have a stronger relation to the Bruce Vento Overlook at Cherokee.
What if equal right is Wyoming and calling a Dr. refers to Dr. Martin Luther King? If so, then clue 8 basically starts at the bottom of Cherokee and progressively works its way up northwards.
When Kirk Conde found the medallion in 1992, he was in the main part of Cherokee park playground area, right? The PP interactive map shows the location in the middle of the woods near that 'Joy Avenue' area.
I don't know if that would be him or another ranger. It's not listed in the events calendar so it may have been a particular group they were doing that for. If he looked Korean, that was him. If not, it would be someone else.
There was a different set of streets and grid that was once in Lilydale. I have an old map from like 1938 of St Paul that has it on there. Not at home or I could tell you what streets were there back in the day.
Yeah, there's a sign that says Bruce Vento's name on it right across from the Picnic areas. If you go down the Smith Ave's bridge and you take a right and drive about 4-5 blocks it's right there.
The Anchorage Rest was in the Sheraton Metrodome on 35W & Industrial Blvd near Rosedale. I worked at the hotel in the 90s. Not sure if before it was there if it was previously somewhere else in St. Paul...
Is anyone playing with a GPS out at the sites? I am almost wondering if Clue 1 is telling us to pinpoint the exact locale we need something like that...
So spent 7 hours today hunting and just feel defeated for this late in the game. I started at the bruce vento sanctuary but honestly once you get in it seems unlikely to be in there. I then took the trail towards swede but nothing stood out aside from the downtowner.
After a couple hours there i headed over to the two overlooks over in Cherokee. While I found out the overlook is actually the county line (below you see two power lines which i was informed is the actual cty line) I still want to confirm. It has potential however I am hardpressed to think the PP wants a story of a stupid hunter falling down those ledges. Not to mention getting more than 100 people in that spot would be difficult. I will post photos later but I think the clues are leading us to the overlook section over by the main park. Lots of tables to park and sit, a set of holiday pair pine trees by the overlook and more area to interpete. I feel like its going to be more out in the middle because its time for a "shift" but it makes me upset because really its going to be a lucky schmuck who came last minute and with no rhyme ir reason will stumble upon it.
Lots of people out but not as many as I thought so that means people are still spread out! We shall see what next clue brings... I may end up eating crow lol
I'm with you, very defeated and tired. Normally at this stage of the game the excitement of finally knowing the spot gives me the adrenaline rush needed to keep on keeping on. Absent that this year, I'm just tired. Bits and pieces seem to fit several places nicely but there are still holes at each one as well.
I have wondered the same thing. For awhile I was thinking this was going to be a hunt from 10 or 15 years ago. Things to be seen and things to line up in the park by now everyone would be fairly sure about. So here we are waiting for clue 10 with doubt everywhere. It's taken some of the fun out of this.
The entry to that area is within the park. I think that is all that is necessary. It's a park clue in my opinion - not that the medallion is hidden on the overlook.
Do NOT be defeated! I was defeated earlier today then I got hit over the head! I am no longer defeated. I'm back home for dinner, drying all my gloves (and my *ss after one too many tumbles today - thank you trees, branches, and scrub for saving me from certain death), finding a lantern that works, then I'm heading back out. I FEEL IT!!!
Start over. Really look at those clues. They make sense once you're in the right park. At least, if my park is the right one. lol And, yes, my dad figured out the "Holiday Pairs", too, while in the park. It was the final piece to my puzzle.
Hope to see y'all out there tonight. Be careful driving and of that ice. Good luck and let's make the news in the morning!!!
It's not going to be in the overlook area itself, but by all means I hope other people spend time looking there (just as long as they stay safe doing it - we don't need a tragedy out there).
After scouting and searching for a few hours today, I still think there is a 10-15 acre area that's the most intriguing, with several things to "line up" from the clues.
The place is Wyoming, equal rights is their state motto.
paging / Dr. King could go either way.

These clues feel different than the last couple years, has the torch been passed again?
