2013 - Cherokee Heights Park

Part of me hopes that it's not in Cherokee because then I would believe there is a method to all of the madness. If it is in Cherokee, then it would seem the method was madness. They gave us things to fit other parks very specifically, but gave us nothing but the vaguest hints to the real park until about Clue 8.

I remember and I know what you're doing.

Is Nimrod there too?

Valley Rec or whatever it is called now has been mentioned. And a really small place would mean obscure clues.

AW, I really need to see the clue definitions to know how I feel about this hunt. Maybe there is something we missed early on about Cherokee. But, otherwise, as we interpret them now, the early clues do seem vague.

I don't like it when the cluewriter purposely gives nothing for the first week, just to get the hunt to drag to the second week. No point in noodling the clues then.

I was thinking about that too Terry. With all of the red herrings, it might be easier next year to just say "I'm going to wait until Clue 11 to see which park it's actually in." Although if I'm right about Lilydale or New Daddy/Monica are right about their park, it shows that the clues really will lead you to the correct location if you figure them correctly which I would find preferable to what seems to be happening this year.

I believe these clues do point to Cherokee once I interpreted them differently than I was previously.

To think that clue 11 is going to send you to a different park after you find Cherokee Heights Park would be unbelievable to me. It was hard enough to swallow when clue 10 took us all to Como after being at Harriet Island already for days.

Thank you for the support:-) I've done something I thought I'd never do but if what we saw last night proves to be true, I hope it'll take the wind out of those cheaters' sails, too. I just posted the location of the medallion that I believe was found last night on FB's PP board. It doesn't give too much away, I hope, but it should be enough for whomever hid the medallion to take my accusation seriously.

If I am wrong, so be it. I'd love for it to still be out there. After work tonight, I'm considering going back out to "my" park but I'd need a response from the PP. I don't believe the Hotline. I think these cheaters are not true hunters and would be unable to explain how they ended up where they ended up without causing suspicion. I mean, we're all dedicated hunters here, yet 95% believe it's Cherokee. I think they'd have to wait until something "DOH" is in the clue and leads everyone to this area. At this rate, that may not be until the last clue is released.

Now, it's off to school then work for me. Fingers crossed I'll get a response.

If it is at Lilydale, at least I'd be right about the whole ice climbing thing (which I'm beating to death, I know).

I suspect we're going to see a painful explanation for the Happy Holidays pair that nobody came up with.

So your saying my dream of a Shamrock hunt isn't dead yet?

Allison Wonderland

Isn't the ice climbing in Dakota county though?

If at Cherokee, the Happy Holidays pair is probably the two pine trees.

It still could be a pointer to Lilydale.

I know I'm probably wrong about that clue, but a girl has dreams.

I find it rather fascinating how these clues are coming out and seem to be deliberate about naming a different park each time, but then the clues as a set are vague and stretchy for fitting to that park. I'm not sure if this is even understandable, but there it is. I've become indifferent, as I'm weary of doing the crappie flop around all the potential herrings.

Shamrock is a Sham! Of a Rock. Hence the name Shamrock.

It's hard to beat Clue 8's street references....

This hunt kind of reminds me of my Sackett Mock Hunt. That year I did mention a different park in every clue and something particular in that park. The real park also had the thing that the park du jour had is how it worked. It certainly had people going in circles though until TMK figured it out.

Those two trees were referenced in a hunt several years ago too if I remember correctly.

Isn't it odd, though, to name most of the streets in one clue and it's the 8th clue; usually a hint at a street is early and just one street reference.

My thought on Clue 8 is that while all those streets run into Cherokee, they would also go into Lilydale if extended.

The Wheel of Fortune Card is #10 in a tarot deck and the treasure was in Lilydale in 2010. The path that comes down from the Bruce Vento Overlook goes through Lilydale. There's the spot under the high bridge next to the St. Paul Yacht Club with a fence right there, under where WiniFRED Ave. would extend to. It really all worked quite well until last night's clue.

I think in the future, when people are convinced it has to be in X Park and no other, the 2013 hunt will be brought up.

Terry

I believe those streets were given in a way that they could be interpreted differently. Now that we are told it's Cherokee, we see that connection.

PilotsHatGuy

All those streets also go along/within a block of Baker Park on the West Side. Not sure if anything else fits there, but if they've been playing games with the park name cause it's really in a small one, that would be a good move to get us to Cherokee when its really at Baker.

So Sam Morgan Trail is still out? Can you:

~see Cherokee Park from the Trail?

~Briggs and Morgan Law Firm that Sam Morgan founded is in the iconic First National Bank Building

~Any streets from Clue 8 run there?

I went to Baker once and it does actually have a pretty good view of downtown from the top. The whole thing is on a pretty steep hill. There is a school there. If this were Clue 9 I'd say it has a possibility.

You can definitely see Cherokee from the Sam Morgan Trail. I drove along it earlier this week and I think we were able to see the Cathedral and downtown.

I reread today's clue. It asks which animal is cheekiest and rumpiest (biggest face and butt). Gopher or Chipmunk, Squirrel or rabbit. If you pick Gopher and Rabbit and anagram it you get "Go Harriet PBB"

For those of you out and about, does it seem like fewer hunters this year? I'm surprised by the lack of online activity - not just here, but all over.

We may set a record low here in the Cooler. My Yahoo group set a record high for posts this year but I think that is mainly due to my park pool that had everyone posting their daily guess. Without that it may have been quieter. It was extremely quiet before the hunt. I haven't been out much but I do know Harriet's parking lot was about full after Clue 8.

I agree. The enthusiasm seems to be down. After last nights clue I expected the villagers to march to Cherokee much like the Green Donut hunt, but it didn't happen. I fully expected to come on the boards this morning to find out it had been found.

My personal thought was that the shift this year was to a small park, that would explain the vagueness in the first 11 clues, yep, I think tonights clue will be vague as well.

So just got back from my, ahem 2 hour "lunch" at Cherokee. There wasn't as many cars/people as I expected. I thought for sure it would be packed. Then again it is during the week/weekday. It just doesn't seem the same as it used to. I feel like now it isn't who is the best noodle to find it but who reads the end of the clues and is the lucky B*& to stumble on it.

I did take a look over by the entrance to the overlook. The clues seem to say county line-border area when you look at a few things. Before the overlook there is a view to the right of the trail where it splits that you can see a good portion of the cathedral. It was pretty and its not really dug up too much, but its near the big drop off and I just don't see the CW thinking thats a good area because of the danger of someone going off the ledge. I get the feeling we are to "pause" and see the view but to come back to the border line to find it. The last clue has me thinking this: gopher or chipmunk, squirrel or rabbit=ramsey or dakota? The debate.

I moved down to the other end where you get a more clear view of the cathedral and you have some space, but it just didn't feel right. I could be wrong.

There is still alot to be dug up. The main area is where I saw most people but I don't think the CW put it in the main section this time around.

On a side note: would like to thank the two damn squirrels above me that while I was enjoying the heavenly view decided to bounce around each other on the tree and knock the snow piles on top of my head. Maybe they were telling me its not there lol
