I was 10 feet away when she stood up, did a short sprint towards the sidewalk, turned back to me and excitedly said "We found it!". She then showed it to me and was quickly surrounded by a crowd. It was cool just being that close.
Overall I liked the clues this year. Except clue 6 -- but they usually have one really obscure clue.
But the CW needs to get an F'n compass. Twice in the explanations they refer to the direction as EAST when it was actually NORTH. (playground sign and puck location)
Heh. If you feel you *do* need CBMT, I would be honored to help you. In the meantime, let me suggest that you allow yourself to grieve first. Not Being The Finder Disorder is not nearly as serious as it feels.
The explanations for the Wheel of Fortune, Yellow Mashed Rice, winter/summer, and especially "generally east" when turns out to be just a tick off of due north -- this morning is a tough morning to swallow. I'm not even sure we're in left field with this stuff. I'm leaning towards not even in the ballpark.
Basically it boils down to if you get tunnel vision when it comes to a park or certain clues - you will be pissed / disappointed / and want to quit when it turns out you were wrong.
Everyone has had a year where that has happened to them. For me it was 2008, for others it will be this year.
It still bugs me that the Cluewriter spelled "Anchors Aweigh" wrong. I thought it was on purpose and that they were telling us to stay away from the Annapolis end.
Well we used up all of my firewood on Monday night. Someone else's turn to supply it. I still have a smoky smell in my jacket, so better not wash it until after RHB?

There was easily about 35 people hacking away in the dark at that hiding spot after Clue 11 came out. Nothing short of amazing it wasn't found until daylight @ 9:45 am.
Well, I had fun just being there when it was found. I parked and looked over the field and saw mrmikey walking quite fast toward the ravine. Turned around and saw the people surrounding the finder. I got to touch it, talk to the finder and get back in my car for the ride home. First time I've been there when it was found, so that's something.
Tater, you're right. Misidentifying the direction where the puck was hidden sent a lot of people to the wrong place.
One positive for the CW, a second year hiding it in a major park where families could hunt and being bold enough to just hide it on the ground when there wasn't a lot of snow.
Yea, I really am mad at the East- even though it was "generally east". Thats the last time I pay attention to the east area. I should have stayed with my gut and stayed on that section!!
Oh well, with each hunt comes a new insight/lesson I learn to improve my hunting abilities.
Where was it hidden? That's where I was told it was found. Can you tell me the number of the post here where you're pictured looking for the broken off piece so I can try to figure out where it was?
Just watching the video linked at PP and they had to crack that dark piece of ice open like a geode! I'll never find the medallion at that rate. It looked like a rock!

But every year we all come back. :goofy:
I would've gone back to that spot last night, except the clue said east of the sign. So I went across the street. :crying:

Glad you got there!
I predict the first clue next year will apologize for not knowing which way was EAST :goofy:

That's Iceman and me with our backs to the camera in the last frame.
My Precious!
Reading the report on the finding.
"Also there were two empty bottles of Bailey's Irish Cream inches away.
"They were working too hard on those instead of chipping at the ice," he said."
I knew there was a reason I don't drink and hunt :pbpt:  Not like it did me a lot of good either though.
