2016 - Bald Eagle Otter Lake

Submitted by ares on
Clue 1

Last year's rich bounty was found in the county
A new park for all to explore
This year's bauble will cause you no trouble
If the rules are kept in the fore

Clue 2

Some may well kvetch that the horizon's sketch
Has artifacts rather than trees
But if you follow the plan pure gold you will pan
And life will be but a breeze

Clue 3

Old Ma Press has moved from her nest
Cross the water from her former home
From the top of her perch you may want to search
For a playground that's fit to roam

Clue 4

The spot this year goes well with beer
And water in great profusion.
But when the crowd is a bit too loud
It offers quiet seclusion.

Clue 5

If young Huck Finn had a boy twin
He might have camped here awhile
Like him you're wishin' that good luck fishin'
You'll find treasure to keep you in style

Clue 6

Man against beast, or that tale at least
Is being told and with much spirit.
If hunting's just you and a man or two
Listen close so that you can hear it.

Clue 7

The wait is long and the siren song
Calls people summer to spring.
Ticket in hand, go find the land
Where the route takes to the wing.

Clue 8

Keep your attention rapt and you'll be apt
To find the medallion, it's clear
Just follow the map - don't take a nap!
To see that the X marks here

Clue 9

A place for dogs, lined by pollywogs,
Will bring you closer yet.
So if you veer very far from here;
You’ll end up with a nap that is wet.

The election goes on, our misery prolonged
Til payday for the winning party
Tall and delicate, will a broke delegate
Cast a ballot for greed or tea?

Clue 10

Don’t be careless and venture out hairless
In temperatures bound to freeze-bite
Fly straight as an arrow and down in your marrow
You’ll trust that the goods are in sight.

Work without thanks is sticking up banks
Even if the fuzz has your back
Idle at the lake, a short respite to take
It’s a good place to set a sack.

Clue 11

An ink-stained wretch, not apt to kvetch
Sited a plat along the wood.
Over a cigar, under northern star,
Now it’s lit up pretty good.

Be straight of stride, or float your ride,
N-no sputtering about.
Son if you’ve starred flipping card for a bard,
You’ll know you’re on the right route.

Are people talking about the boat landing on Otter Lake? Or is there another one on Bald Eagle?

Ink-stained - a wretch with a tatoo?

Seems that line should have some meaning.

It does...read the post I posted w/ the info about the settler.

Of course by clue 11, everything should be clearly putting things together.

This clue writer is good or very, very bad. :pbpt:

It's still fun! I like this forum, along with FB, and I keep an eye on the PP boards too. The hunt is always fun, even if it's just armchair hunting!

I vote very bad!

You would think at clue 11 they would be telling us a narrow area of the park!

I say good. The fact that people can read these clues into so many parks still at this stage is fun. I think the clues to narrow the site are there.

This is driving me crazy. This will likely go to the 12th clue. Hopefully by then the roads will be in better shape.

I need to hit the sheets. For anyone out there, good luck, drive safely and find this thing.

I think they have it nailed down to a small enough area. It's a lot of snow, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it get found tonight.

RudeRat

I dug there 3 times. That spot got hit hard after the sack clue, but tonight's says it was just south of where every one was digging. I had a nice conversation with a couple of retired school teachers on the bench right there. I'd go up but its late, I'm cold and all my stuff is wet.

Well all I have to say is I am sure collecting a lot of info on parks that are not in Jesse's book. BVNS, WBL, and one other that is in the process of being developed and will b e another one to confuse us along the river. He will have to write an updated version again in about 5 years. So many areas being preserved that were just considered

dead land and swamps that could not be developed into housing or anything else thank God. Now we have them as new parks we can explore. BVNS and Swede Hollow are really spooky an night though. I stopped looking about 8:30 pm last night and as I walked back to my car i realized everyone was gone except 2 cars who were on their smart phones goggling and noodling. I thought the hunt was over. But lucky for me it was not . Now on to explore another park area I have not been to before. Been noodling my sleep tie away . Going to bed to wake up at dawn and wade threw the snow. Their is a Benson Airport at

WBL fits clue #9 talking about politics. He is a republican Right wing and tea party material. Sanders is the left wing he was visiting St.Paul at the Excel, last Tuesday. Not sure if that fits anywhere. Grabbing at all straws here. Good night/morning?? :asleep:

Maybe "fuzz"' = otter?

Maybe "tall and delicate" = tamarack?
Wed, 02/03/2016 - 11:39 AM Permalink
SJBarney

Tamarack would be a great place to hide it we dug it over last weekend but I am convinced it's in the Benson Farm Park north of the boat launch the place was packed last night. That's the BE N Son part of clue 11 the airport is right next door and the bard is Richard Hugo which Hugo Road runs on the edge of the park. Also highway 61 is also called forest road which could be a plat along the wood.

I was down there at the boat launch on the east side of Bald Eagle Lake. Einstein here forgot to grab my boots this morning, and I really didn't feel like stomping around in dress shoes. But, I wanted to check out the Barker cabin at 5550 Bald Eagle Blvd.. It occ0ured to me that if you "fly straight" across the bay, you run into the peninsula that is shaped like an apostrophe near the boat launch. Google the cabin's address, and you'll see what I mean. (Maybe all the apt references?) Also, the X on the map meaning "You are Here" may indicate it's buried near a trail head sign? Go get it!

I’ve been on this site for a few years and I too miss the activity that used to be here. I was more of a “lurker” and appreciated comparing my thoughts to the group’s ideas. I’m in the facebook group too but it’s harder to follow the comments there when I want to do a quick catchup while at work. I hope the pendulum swings back to Able Minds.

Agreed! I had to move from MN and now in the south, online is my only choice. And my daughter now has such a busy life they can't get out. The previous years this site was a respite from the garbage on the PP boards...smart people working on the clues. I was always impressed. Even last year, I was in awe when folks here had figured out Snail Lake so fast, and while it wasn't given away, it was obvious some smart folks here figured it out.

Can't wait to see the final clue and hopefully someone from the crew will find it soon.

It won't show the name on google earth. It's between overtake road and leibel rd, it's a open plat- in google earth you see the "x" very clearly!!! I was there today, that most certainly is the area!
