I need to do some scouting today. There is some or was some communication tower that could be seen from Newell and if I'm not mistaken it may be the KSTP tower that straddles the St. Paul/Mpls. border.
barefootguy and i were chatting last night before we got our papers at shamrocks. he didn't seem to think that they'd give away como this soon with the snow situation. i drove through como saturday morning and there was still a pretty respectable amount of snow out there, and since we're supposed to get more tomorrow and i don't think the sun is coming out today, i'm not sure a lack of snow is gonna be a problem for the immediate future at least.
at the same time east and west have in the past been references in phalen hunts as well.
Agreed. Newell has also been referenced as West in clues of the past.
What we haven't seen yet is reference to water. We'll see if that comes up in future clues this year.
I go through Como quite often and will be again this afternoon. Depending on wheb they hid the medallion, I agree with the snow situation. There are areas that there is snow and we have another possible 4 inches coming tomorrow and the January thaw is coming to an end.
Funny how reading through old clues brings you back to the noodling and all the ideas and how we read way too much into most of them especially early clues.
The snow is okay - but the heavy wet stuff not so much.'

In the paper the clues, column are next to the news column. Can be hint that clues are hidden within news articles in the paper. That would be a neat twist.
Clues are supposed to be limited to one per day and published in the clues section of the PP. looking through the current events news for additional hints is overthinking the problem. there are enough red herrings in the published clues without analyzing every trump tweet for references to shamrock park. It has been stated on the interweb that Shamrock COULD be the hiding place for the elusive treasure.
Here's my noodle du jour: "Look for clues, theyÂ’re next to news" - What road is next to the PP building? River Park Plaza. So it's at a park on the river.
The Maplewood portion of Battle Creek is still inside the Ramsey County borders.
I like the river noodle, but I really think this means the medallion will be found in newspaper. It is most often one of the first 3 or 4 clues that the 'what it is in' comes out of a clue.
Otherwise do we read this as the medallion is right next to the newspaper? Hmmm. That couldn't then be a see the Comcast building from the hiding spot but a park right next to the building.
After helping my Mom a bit today, we did some scouting around just to get a feeling for how much snow cover is left at Highland, Como and Newell along with Marydale North Dale and Minnehaha Community Center. Como is mixed. The west picnic grounds has more snow than the east. The woods still have snow. There is more snow than I thought there would be up by the frogpond and that area. Newell is also sort of hit and miss with snow. Lots of those black crows up there though. Hold crows! Easily 75 of them. Some in a big puddle in a low spot, some just gathering in trees, others squawking and hollering like they do as they strutted around. Highland golf course has more grass showing than most of the rest of the park, and again, the more heavily wooded areas have more snow.
North Dale is mostly snow free but there are a few patches. Marydale has a mix.
Mostly we were just checking snow cover so we would have an idea of areas that already have snow when this next batch of that heavy wet stuff comes tomorrow.
I noodled Keller in Maplewood; not there since 1976, odd. Could be the two big golf courses (Keller and Phalen) and CW nervous about digging. There is a Lark Ave near Keller Regional. But not since 1976 so must be a reason CW has avoided it. Must be that huge golf course.
Maplewood has been thought to be a problem for the City of Maplewood mostly because of hunts at Wakefield in 71 and 86. There were accusations that much damage was done and Maplewood didn't want the medallion back in their city.
71 was the first hunt Inks and I did together. We were so danged close. I can't say there was much damage that we noticed, but we spent our time on the lake shoveling feet of snow. In the right spot but didn't shovel out far enough.
One other thing we found is there is a radio tower just west of Newell. It was attached to the back side of a building on Prior - the Celtic Junction. What I haven't figured out yet is why it is there. The Celtic Junction is a non-profit Arts Center. The Celtic Junction
I have been through their website to see if they do any broadcasting but cab't find any mention.
I am temporarily using an 11" chromebook with an equally small key board. I will apologize now for typos. The new computer will be here tomorrow and once set up, it should get better.
Reading about Tilden Park in the Street Where you Live book. Interesting that it was likely named after Samuel Tilden, a democrat that ran for president against Rutherford Hayes. Tilden won the popular vote but Hayes got the electoral votes and won. Sounds like this last election!
The building used to be a two way radio shop, Capitol Communications, until probably 10 years ago. There are two wide area dispatch systems licensed to that tower. Has nothing to do with media, and everything with telling trucks and taxis where to go. Also some ham stuff there.
I remember that being there. Now that makes sense For the life of me I couldn't figure that out. Did Capitol communications have stuff for rent for events like lighting and the like?
There was a project at work and we needed lights to cast shadows for a presentation. I got lights from somewhere on Prior and I'm thinking it was in that building.
