I am remembering that the bathrooms were closed at Cherokee when we hunted out there, but there are other parks that do have facilities. Newell is one. Como of course though it might be a little hike depending on where you might be digging.
We did a snow check at Como, Highland, and Newell on Monday. Somewhere we saw a port-a-pot tipped over. It probably was at Highland.
I'm not sure, with that said I bet it was growing wild everywhere! In fact I know a few spots in the 70's it grew "wild" but not in parks. We called it ditch weed.
Behind ComoTown is the wolf den. Don't look there. :pbpt: I'm not completely convinced that it's at Como. This CR likes to have everyone dig up every park in the city before he sends them scrambling in another direction. I'm going to go snoop around down at Como today, anyway. Just because it's going to be a nice day and I really need a sanity break.  :pbpt: :goofy:
At home in Como Park. In spring 2000, Cafesjian's Carousel opened in a new $1.1 million copper-roofed pavilion in Como Park. When the carousel is in operation, eight 14-by-14-foot garage-style doors can be opened in various configurations to suit the weather.
I usually look at Como every hunt so that alone makes me say CoNo.
Out kicking around at Long Lake last night, mostly because it's close to home. About 30min after the clue came out, the parking lot near the beach started getting busy. I must be missing something! Went home shortly after. Anybody out today? How are crowds?
Thanks for sharing those links. Reading about the "Band" organ on the carousel makes me lean toward Como even more. A loud organ than can be heard before people even see the carousel seems to fit clue 3.
Remember when in the news they talked about how the St. Paul PD horses had to move from their boarding place, and Como Zoo provided them with housing until they could find a new place?
Yea, my hunting partner and I were down there last night, again, mostly because we just wanted to get out and it was convenient. I can see the way-to-obvious references to surrounding businesses (fake news = Accurate Press, sweet = Homewood Suites, hack or hex = Beisswengers Hardware) but in the first clue? Not a chance.
Western gorse and dwarf furze flower in late summer (August–September in Ireland and Great Britain).
Como has the Twin Cities Robert Emmets Hurling Club. Ancient, 3,000 year old Galeic (sp)/Irish history. Emmets was a big-time Irish patriot in the 1700's.
"The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down" is a song written in 1937 by Cliff Friend and Dave Franklin. It is best known as the theme tune for the Looney Tunes cartoon series produced by Warner Bros. Cartoons, used from 1937 to 1969.
The original version contains an introductory verse that leads up to the main part of the song, as a young man tells of his date with a young woman, in which they go to an amusement park and find time to "spark" while riding the malfunctioning carousel. The name was a play on "breakdown" and the tune is similar to the traditional "Chinese Breakdown" as well as the children's rhyme "Miss Susie had a steamboat".
Early clues can have you in a park that you almost refuse to leave because everything fits so well. Then you realize those same clues fit another park.
Discussing clue 4 with my hubby. Tire means Goodyear/Goodrich to him. I looked at Goodrich Ave, and if you draw a line to continue Goodrich at it's east end, it crosses the river and bisects Harriet Island. Interesting.
We went out scouting tonight. I wanted to double check about where domes can be seen.
Cherokee and IM have clear views of the capital dome. There were two people at IM up by the overlook and we didn't see anyone else in the rest of the park. Only one hunter was at Cherokee.
Upper Landing has a view of the cathedral dome. Upper Landing doesn't have any sort of when nature calls facilities and no port-a-potties. We attended a wedding there a few years ago and anyone who had to use facilities used Anytime Fitness and they are always open. Parking is severely limited. There may be parking at the Science Museum ramp but I'm not sure about what hours that is open. So for these reasons, I don't think it is at Upper Landing...but something else dawned.
Interesting that you mention Harriet Island Neecie. Harriet Island East is directly across the river from Upper Landing which is directly across from the Science Museum (ancient maybe - what were groups of dinosaurs called? Would be nice if that were bands. Something to google).
Como of course has the conservatory dome and the carousel. What struck me when we were tooling around is that a stall could also be a parking stall. Not sure how that would work with when nature calls, but it was another thought. I like the areas in front of the conservatory with the east picnic grounds as well as the frog pond section. We saw about 12 people total at Como hunting and most were in those areas. 3 people were in the west picnic grounds. I know there is ancient history at Como so its historical land, but I can't figure out ancient bands.
But those tribes still exist. The Hopewell's in the mounds at IM no longer exist making them more ancient.
The Science Museum has dinosaurs that are also ancient. And the science museum has good sight lines from Harriet Island and the cathedral dome is also viewed from HI.
Good Luck to the cooler crew.
What is ancient at Como?

Loo is definitely a toilet reference.

Have fun!

"no stalls"?
Seems people on the PP boards are talking about Long Lake. Why are people thinking the clues fit there?

I didn't even know about Hurling.

78 rpm Russ Morgan from 1937.
I don't think it's "fake news" or that someone planted it on Google.

"By Trick or Tweet"... Still not sure how that fits!
Nice article and photo here (who do you recognize?):

Maybe I am just stuck on that ancient band thing.
