Unless the snow made CW panic and toss out a gimme, I think this clue is too easy. My plan is to look for a hidden meaning in #9 that is a glaring sign toward long lake.
I've been lurking, but not posting because (I'm embarrassed to say) I was clueless until tonight. Keller wasn't even on my radar. I scouted there two or three years ago and thought, "nah." The parking situation doesn't seem compatible with the amount of hunters nowadays. Good luck, everyone.
it seems I stand corrected, but maybe its not completely in Keller but close. If the noodle about California st and Nevada st is true, they are on the west side of phalen and brighton place is a street on the east side. They all go east and west and point right at phalen.
The use of the word "unsound" clue makes me wonder...more confusion.
Good information being shared. I was stuck on ancient band and was sure it referred to the Hopewell band of Indians buried in the mounds at Indian Mounds. It kept me trying to make other clues fit - and some did - for too long.
I also was thinking the dinosaurs and other artifacts at the the Science Museum might be ancient that lead me to investigate Upper Landing and Harriet Island where the Science Museum is clearly seen.
I think my definition of ancient is centuries different than the clue writer's and I think said person must be a young whipper snapper. :coolfrown:
A poster on the PP press board (my user name won't work this year on PP board for whatever reason) mentioned that the "deaf dumb and blind" reference in Pinball Wizard leading to the Helen Keller reference may not be Politically Correct in terms of a "dumb" label for Helen Keller. I tend to agree. Thoughts?
Perfect angle maybe refers to the fact that the 45th parallel (45 Deg N) runs through the park, maybe there is a marker? It runs to the south of the pavilion noted as # 6 on the map shared earlier before heading into the golf course on one end, and HWY 61 on the other.
EDIT* It appears there is a small spur of land on the west side of HWY 61, with a trail on it that is still part of the park and runs into arcade st. which the 45th parallel follows.
I was at Keller last Thursday night and Friday and hardly anyone was there. Then spent time at Phalen/Keller, Como, and Long Lake on Saturday and Sunday. Was thinking they would avoid Phalen because of the ice harvest and construction but Keller still looks good. Argggggggggggghhhhhhhhhh
I agree that the pinball wizard/Helen Keller reference is not PC so I doubt it will appear in the official explanation. I bet we just get arcade instead.
I don't see a PC issue unless it was inadvertent. To me, the pinball wizard clues have much more to do with how you play the tuj lub game and Brighton street.
The clues are really coming together. The mention of the pedestrian bridge by one of the tuj lub courts having a cross or compass - directions spelling news was a great one.
Thanks for the welcome. I'm guessing there is a candy wrapper involved and/or something newspaper related. I can't make the two references to news fit anything else. What do you think, New Daddy?
I think it's because a lot of people weren't sure about one park yet. For me, it dampens my enthusiasm if I can't get excited about which park I think the clues are leading to!
I got excited about one park or another several different times and more than just a couple of parks. For me it has been difficult to settle anywhere with the clues this year.
To be on clue 9 before most would agree on the park, seems like a bit late. Often most people have settled into a park during the weekend.
There might have been concern that with the snow situation and the size of the park, putting people there on Friday night might have ended the hunt prematurely.
I do agree, though. It's exhausting to feel like you've wasted time in the wrong area code.
They'll officially say it was meant to say arcade and leave out the keller reference, but we know the truth. They do stuff like this all the time with double meanings
A gate now blocks access to the path of the old highway as it enters Keller Golf Course (Closed for season; stay off golf courses). Old Hwy 61 goes right through the golf course, but hunters aren't allowed there.
My point being that those utility poles mark where Hwy 61 once was. Not sure if it's part of the clue, but the CW has used utility poles in other huts as a reference. I could be waaaaay off-base. Just something about those utility poles marking old hwy 61, but I may bem ade a fool of when clues are explained!
Keller Golf Course and Lake were named for Herbert Keller. He was a mayor of St.Paul. His father was a carpenter, and had a saw mill on Phalen Creek, below Dayton's Bluff. I remember reading that Native American burial mounds existed on the south end of Keller Golf Course.
Goodnight and SCDs!

Just saying
I posted after getting home

Who thinks it is hidden in woods, and who thinks packed under a fat bike tire track

There was a bridge over the creek which is now gone too. Both the highway and the bridge would be unseen now, and the traffic thereon unheard.

there are two tuj lub courts at keller as well.
^Trying desperately to fit it to long lake.
Anybody have general thoughts regarding puck placement? Does the CW consider traffic safety? Are thick woods less likely?
to find another spot.
When nature calls, but without any stalls,
go around for the prized pot.
^Seems like the puck placement clue to me.
A track beneath the pack may be that the puck is in a cassette tape case, buried (duh).

They plan to close a pedestrian tunnel under HWY 61, another shot at unsound? Or unseen?
It is close to the HWY61 Bridge which was the hiding place for the 1958 medallion which also used can not see in clue #9
