lol This is my 1st year here... *kinda* forgot that I am in a MPLS area now, so when I went to buy my button, everywhere I went, the cashiers just looked at me like I was speaking russian! Finally, with the help of someone here (I think it was E&H MOM---thanks! :)) they told me to try in St. Paul--no problems! The first store I stopped at had them on the counter!
Saturn Riverfront is the school (TEST) right across from the Kellogg Mall park. Saturn is a planet know for it's rings. The Salvation army KETTLE is there across from the Radisson Hotel which has the Carousel restarant in it. Ant thoughts?
Some of the clues seems to fit Phalen, but I am not so sure about the split of maplewood and st. paul there, but locking the fence... I don't know, can't really *answer* all the clues to fit Phalen.
Clue 1--It's in the City of St. Paul, the clues will be tough, and the obvious GOOD LUCK could mean to watch for anagrams in future clues.
Clue 2--Warns us not to annoy statues, the writer knowing of the future "man of steel" clue, and the usual don't destroy stuff. The importance of this clue may become apparant in future clues with an anagram using the letters "TFGA", because there doesn't seem to be much else here
Clue 3--Anagram of CITY, formed in a somewhat "circular fashion"--Bicycle chains come to mind with circular linking--tire swing also possible--Hidden Falls has a major bike trail--Bank could be river bank--again, hidden falls....don't know
Clue 4--East River Road and West River Road--or East side of St. Paul / West side of St.Paul--Playing could refer to Arcade Ave., a major East Side street--or maybe a playground with a tire swing--ETIP
Clue 5--Man of mettle could be Henry Ford (also, in an industrial revolution sort of way, a man of steel), the Ford plant being right above hidden falls--or McKnight, Shepard Road is near Hidden Falls..Probably hidden in a Dove Chocolate bar box or Dove soap box..ABLATSOA--
Clue 6--Large open area?--or something else--Como? Phalen?--riding around Carousel which used to be at the sate fair at Como--riding around could be bicycle pointing to a more bicycle centric spot like Hidden Falls--baseball?--military reference (along with victorious, mettle in a vague sort of way)
Just back from a look see and walk around at Como. It sure could be there. Just wish the clue writer woulda mentioned picnic tables or trees or something more parklike.
John and Lori... I think it is reaching a bit much, but what the heck do I know... NOTHING! :) :) I have been searching for 6 years, have been real close 4 times--totally not at Conway at all, and got to Newell right after it was found. So... I always think that we all overanalyze the clues and then when their explanation comes out--it is SOOOO simple. Quite honestly, I usually don't even like their tie-ins anyhow... Anyone at the that area? That you could tell?
I will be checking out Como too tomorrow--just to see. I need to get out there and take a look.. see if anything *hits* me.
Clue 1: nothing Clue 2: nothing Clue 3: 'circular thinking' (not sure but will focus on circular) Clue 4: East and West / one is the proper place / playing (east or west side of a park where there is definite playing) Clue 5: first 2 lines (statue, some type of metal, of a courageous man) Clue 6: Big park, bike paths, 'move off base' is important
Some other thoughts were the GOLD reference, the Salvation army has that huge lighted pot of gold...The East and west meeting point is Wabasha there which is at the west end of the park..."To escape the HERD find a peaceful bird" Sheperd Rd is directly on the other side of the park...and I thought all the military words could have to do with the salvation ARMY again or NAVY island being right there. I didn't see people out there digging just walking around.
J and L-- sounds good to me. Not familiar with the area... maybe you should check it out? Obviously can't hurt, seems like no park or area is pinpointed. :)
I think it is at either Como or Phalen.....The clues of every hunt seem to lead to Como, so it might be Phalen this year(the red herring theory). However, the clues really fit Como better than anywhere else at this point.
No problem Strikitrich....I analyze the location (or try to) by eliminating fellow posters thoughts. Kind of negative...Huh.
Don't fear, I'm never right.
Peace.

Some random thoughts on the clues...any comments?

About time Fats, Let's play the game.
Here's some ideas?

Thanks SW. You are the best. Gotta get some sleep before driving down Wheelock on my way to work.

nite all
tornado, you are right. it is very simple. see you at the most obvious park tomorrow.

The anagram of CITY fits well downtown, as well. What about the "Lots of space" reference?
I can't fit that into downtown.
I think it is at either Como or Phalen.....The clues of every hunt seem to lead to Como, so it might be Phalen this year(the red herring theory). However, the clues really fit Como better than anywhere else at this point.
The bike trails around there are pretty long.
I never thought about como until this clue... that lots of space deal is what burns me.....
One more thing...The word 'deal' could refer to playing cards, like maybe bridge. There are a couple of huge bridges there also.
What about the playing reference in 4 or clue 5? man of steel? does that fit?
The usage in "Look for his name around our deal" is unusual enough to seem significant.
Bridge is a possibility....
