Well, I am falling asleep at the keyboard so I think it is time for me to call it a good night (or good morning?) Little sleep lately and now I have been up for 21 hours. Hopefully get some good rest and check out the parks in the morning. Not sure it is even in a park, but where else am I suppose to look? SWEET COOLER DREAMS TO ALL! I hope to run into some of you! :)
they are about the only 2 parks in st paul that you can ride "around"...they both have statues, ball fields, bike paths, private ground, golf courses, lots of space, "figure" skating rink, lots of things to play, etc.....
I like Como better because of Victoria St on the east & Midway(battle references) on the west, & a "one way" street circling the lake, SA on lexington & front, & isnt there a metal(play on mettle) statue of Como at the park & doesn't Como blvd go "one way circling the lake??
Another strange usage is "If this choice leaves you depressed". Depressed is a pretty strong word, and therefore stands out. It could mean the site is in a depression or low area.
In the yellow pages there is a small discription of Kellogg Mall Park and it comments on it being a popular place for weddings. JUNE in the first clue?
THIS IS A LONG SHOT but have you heard of the "All I need to know in life I learned in Kindergarten" The last line of clue 5 says that's what you'll need to know. A school reference? There is a downtown Kindergarten there also. (That's the name of the school. Downtown Kindergarten.)
here's what I have: Battle Creek, Phalen, Cherokee, and Como are the only Saint Paul parks that have playground, bike riding and ballfields so take your pick. Unless of course riding around means a merry-go-round.
My lucky kids are getting a ride to school tomorrow, which just happens to be Saturn Riverfront Academy, a technology magnet school. I think the sign on the building still says 'Kellogg Educational Building.' Just so you know. My husband thinks I am NUTS right now. He doesn't get the whole hunt thing.
just got here, had to go check those posts. they are new ideas.
is that park in the city proper?
after reviewing clues and stewing i'm convinced that the park will be in the CITY proper. my first instinct in the first clue was harriet..in the city...
the more i read the clues the more i give up my hidden falls, crosby farm idea and lean towards harriet.
it's tough tho going by memory and not being able to go look.
Not everyone understands the hunt. It definitely gets in your blood. You've studied the clues. You know exactly where it is. You grab a tool (shovel, hoe, we all have our preference) and you head to the site with the true belief that it is a matter of getting out of the car, and picking up the prize. You can taste it.
You arrive to the reality of several hundred thousand cubic yards of snow, 3000 other people, and a van selling mini-donuts...
NO!!!!!!! I know the name of the school is Saturn Riverfront Academy, but I do know that as of last year it didn't have it on the outside of the building yet.
The kids from the school go out for recess on the East end of it between Minnesota and Jackson.
William Booth founded the Salvation Army. There is a plaque there about him.

my thoughts on Phalen & como:

John & Lori - Does that school of yours have the word Saturn on the outside somewhere?
