Tom, I agree with you that it won't be found for a couple of days most likely unless someone gets lucky. But as for bank and herd and other things, those are not real clues. Those are just words. If you look back at previous years and their explanations, maybe there is one or two words in the whole set of clues that have a particular special meaning. The vast majority do not. So there's no reason to take any specific word and assume it *has* to fit a park.
As for Desoto, the first part of today's clue is merely telling you that they're naming a street. The second part is the name of the street, an "old way of travelling", i.e. by Desoto (an old make of car)
The man of steel is apparently Superman after all, and the man of mettle is Clark Kent. Its as simple as that.
Circular thinking I'm guessing means think of a place where they use a lot of balls, like baseballs, tennis balls, basket balls. And this would be a bold park, being that its never been here before. It does have a lot of hills, and therefore a lot of space for sledding.
I want to know what all you pros think about this idea. I have been thinking it is at MLK since the 5th clue, and this is what I have come up with. "Man of Steel": Superman or Clark Kent, Kent St. runs into MLK. Also, Lex Luther is the nemesis of Superman, and Luther is in MLK. Last night, the clue also said "Lane" which could be hinting at Lois Lane. If you look in your Treasure Hunters guide, there is a "Peace Monument" towards the west side of the park. I went to this monument and there is 3 metal doves on a large concrete wall. There is also a circle that is broken up between the doves. Above the 3 doves is a large "Peace" sign made out of metal (mettle). "East and West" can be referring to Highway 94 which goes East and west and is directly north from the park and can easily be seen. You can also see a church with a large "Gold" cross on top, which is pretty much directly north. Inside the rec center is the "Penumbra Theater". Penumbra means "eclipse" which could be connected with circular thinking. "Keep on your toes" could also be connected with dancing in the Penumbra Theater, or there is also a blacktop area that has a basketball court. The Peace Monument is on a large concrete wall which could be connected with off base=AWOL or A Wall. Directly north of the peace monument is also a large baseball field with a chain link fence, and a soccer field next to that; the off base reference could also be connected with that. Not only is this a quite a bit of space, but you can also get a good view of the sky or space. What do you think?
I spent most of my time around the basketball courts as it was the only playing you could do there in an east-west direction. I was dressed all in black with a black leather jacket and a black almost cowboy looking hat.
hey all! so does everyone think it is at AA park?? have been gone for a day so update me w/ any new info if ya got any. I was thinking "man of steel and man of mettle" could be superman and clark kent like AW said, but is there a kent street or a clark street by any parks?
You can all save your $5. All Miss. Cleo said was that the fortune I was seeking was surrounded by white! Although I have doubts that she was the real Miss. Cleo--the accent sounded kinda phony! :)
MLK, is starting to look good. Down two blocks to the west is Carty park, there is a rock in the middle with a plaque given by the summit-university comm. council in 76 I think. Anywho, It saif the full name of the guy the park was named after, Carty and said it was for his dedication to the area when he lived. The street on the west side, is white like the Rhondo signs, and is Rev Walter L Battle St, Rd etc. On the corner of Marshall, and Rev Walter L... , is a temple called Battle temple. Obviously war related. Other clues couldn't fit however, so who knows. But is very close to MLK, and mettle man's name is near
Does anyone know if there is a prominent bridge near Hidden Falls park? I am still thinking it is at Hidden Falls. Hidden Falls links St. Paul (East) and Minneapolis (West). East/West/Playing in this same clue could be referring to the game of Bridge. Old way of travel could be the river.
sister, there's the 35e bridge over the river on the east end, the ford pkwy bridge over the river on the north end, and the high bridge may well be visible from hf, too.
herself - no, but finding the medallion would evoke a smile! The Clark Kent thing sounds good - but I don't know that I would call him a man of mettle (courage).
Memory lane is the busiest street. This is a hint that they are talking about a street name in this clue. Think of an old way of travelling. My gut feeling told me right away they were looking for an old brand of car, and in this case Desoto goes right by the same park Clark St. goes into.
..somewhere...heh..I went searching and there was this pile of snow that someone had dug and then made a circle around it...it was pretty humurous. I think the clues do point to 2 parks right next to each other..but what we need now is the homing in clue..the one where it gives something away that can be seen from exactly where the treasure is hidden, but it probably won't...I think the clue Steer points to one possible place..what do you think of when you think of Steer? Anyway...I am still having a problem with circular thinking..but that's because of my choice of park...but that's my only problem really..
There's a reason for a pile of snow with a circle around it. First you dig out a small circle and make sure nothing is there. Then you start digging around it making bigger circles and piling the snow in the middle where you've already looked.
Circular thinking - if you look at the first letter of each line of this clue and circle down up and around - they spell CITY. If you put this with Linking you can come up with a park that links two cities (one east one west) - Hidden Falls

Can someone tell me what park AA is?
Also AW I was driving around AA today (didn't dig there ) and there is a peace acadamy building not to far away....it has a dove on the sign
Man of mettle could be saying man of courage.
The man of steel is apparently Superman after all, and the man of mettle is Clark Kent. Its as simple as that.

sister: aa = arlington-arkwright park. the name is self-explanatory to its location.
Thank you, Ares. Does anyone still think the med is at Hidden Falls?
well, i can't wait to see what tonight's clue brings us. Where in AA have you looked?
which person were you? What were you wearing?

If it is at MLK it will be found soon, there were 4 very determined diggers out there this afternoon!
I spent most of my time around the basketball courts as it was the only playing you could do there in an east-west direction. I was dressed all in black with a black leather jacket and a black almost cowboy looking hat.
I was at AA about 2:00 pm with my wife and son.

I left there about 1:30 and came back around 4 until 5. We did some good filming though in the earlier session.
because it says" a man of steel could not be real"
Clark St goes into AA.
You can all save your $5. All Miss. Cleo said was that the fortune I was seeking was surrounded by white! Although I have doubts that she was the real Miss. Cleo--the accent sounded kinda phony! :)
The man of steel isn't real, but then again it never actually says the man of mettle *is*.

Alisson>> THANX!
Sister, a prominent bridge near hf is Ford, but I seriously doubt bridge is the game to which they were referring as it rarely evokes smiles.
sister, there's the 35e bridge over the river on the east end, the ford pkwy bridge over the river on the north end, and the high bridge may well be visible from hf, too.
there are SO MANY thing it could be. AW - How can you explain Memory Lane?
SS>> there are two bridges that are by HF, Ford Bridge and some other one. i am with you too, a little
herself - no, but finding the medallion would evoke a smile! The Clark Kent thing sounds good - but I don't know that I would call him a man of mettle (courage).
From He's there is the w.7th St.(Fort Road) bridge that goes by Ft. Snelling and joins up with 494. Bridge is planely visible.

NOTE TO SELF: learn how to sepll...spell...
Diggin Dude - there is supposed to be a new bridge as well - check out this link http://www.friendsoftheparks.org/bridge.htm
WOW. I have definately changed my mind
Clark Kent was a man of mettle, he just *pretended* not to be.
Is Desoto the busiest street by the park?
oh...i didn't know that
Memory Lane is the busiest street, not Desoto. Busy is just a red herring.
HF closes at 10:00.

Hernando DeSoto was a man of (metal) stealing
GOLD
in the 1500's
DD--check edits! Posted less than 30 sec. after the original! I think I'll go back and edit your work now.
My first thought of an old way of traveling was "street car." That brings me to the Capitol, as in Capitol CIty Trolley.
When looking at the bridge from HF's the structure of the bidge is arches and they look like half circles.
There's a reason for a pile of snow with a circle around it. First you dig out a small circle and make sure nothing is there. Then you start digging around it making bigger circles and piling the snow in the middle where you've already looked.
Pupsicle, you been to HF?
Circular thinking - if you look at the first letter of each line of this clue and circle down up and around - they spell CITY. If you put this with Linking you can come up with a park that links two cities (one east one west) - Hidden Falls
golly gee... i'm sorry :(
j/k
SS- or east and west river road...only one of which is the correct one(east)
Everyone still clueless with these ever so much helpful clues?
