I'm off tomorrow and depending on how the hunt goes, I could be off on Tuesday. Wednesday I have to work whether the thing is found or not. Of course that doesn't mean I can't be out on Tuesday night for the last clue.
Gonna do my best to get out of work early today. Gotta dig....
Terry, it sounds like you're in a favorite area of Dad's. We were rehashing it last night....maybe it will be easier to get him to come out now!
I've got the Coolermobile in front of my house, but it doesn't sound like anyone is too excited about using it....If I'm wrong, let me know and I'll get it out there for a place to warm up.
An hour between my 2 posts 24407 and 24408; that's a record-length time interval (1 full hour) for "one person to send 2 consecutive messages without anyone else chatting". I think I'll call that new record a JI -- for "Joe Interval". OK, CoolerCrew, wake up and smell the medallion; and make a note at your meetings about the new JI record and it's new invention.
Med philosophy 101: Best time to find the med is between 11pm and 3am -- right after a new clue is released -- so if you dig during the day, then you're really gambling on being lucky instead of using the clues.
I've got this map from the Winter Carnival download file WCEVENTSMAP.PDF; and it only shows a 1, 2, 3 and 5 -- so why doesn't it show a 4?????? What are those numbers anyway? Maybe it says in the .PDF file if I read the text instead of just looking at the map; but still, the map should have a good legend -- to interpret those numbers -- so you don't have to read the text.
So, .... what does the 4 mean??? Are those the ZONE number that the coolerheads are mentioning????
Dunno, but the hot spot for diggin is on the hills of McMurray Field, just down from the humane society (or animal shelter) @ COMO PARK.
Haven't Seen any big clue breakdowns so here is mine...
Clue 1 ... Confirms St. Paul park. Duel Could refer to battle of Lexington (Lexington Ave. borders McMurray Field). "Keep on your toes" must be in reference to the hills cause you cant move up and down those hills let alone stand on them without being on your toes ;)
Clue 2 ... Alerts to Golf Courses and Statue(s) (Schiller Statue)nearby and warns to stay away from them :) Possibly a warning to *steer* clear of the private property, which is where parking can be found at the west end of the fields @ the humane society and animal control center on Beulah Lane (parking on the wrong side would be in their lots ;).
Clue 3 ... Help Here ... Could mean rounding the bases....or softballs themselves....
Clue 4 ... Clues us in to a larger park and narrows Como to east or west, well most of the celebration is on the west side, the east side would be by the lake. It also mentions playing (i.e. games and fun) which is exactly what McMurray fields is all about winter thru fall.
Clue 5 ... Not Very for Sure Here, lets figure this one out people. Could be many things but nothing fits like "the glove" . But mettle does mean "courage or spirit". Have heard various things including someone a field is named after........HELP HERE! :)
Clue 6 ... Yes riding can be lots of fun, the hills on McMurray are notorious for sledding down (good hills bring a sled!). Also moving off base must be a reference to the softball field(s) and the basepaths.
Clue 7 ... Think back to 1885 (well maybe not), because Bandana Square was originally built then as a repair stop for the, get this ....Northern Pacific Railroad ! sounds like traveling the old way to me, and it is just up the hill bordering the south side of the fields.
Clue 8 ... Adding Cocoa and Mocha CO + MO --> Confirms CoMo Park Could also combine for ----> A Como Coach. Which could be a railroad passenger car @ Bandana across street from Como or the coach one of the fields is named after. Someone also mentioned Memory Lane and said it was a Perry COMO song, Also a possibility is Beulah Lane, which is at the top of the west end of the fields and Beulah has 2 popular meanings (look it up).
Clue 9 ... The train tracks are at the top on the south side of fields, just barely out of view. (or tracks could mean animal tracks from dog walks at the humane society, which are long since covered up because they have been sled over). The opening below is the area of fields which is definitely 25 feet below street level. So proceed up the hill(s). One side the hills lead to the animal shelter, and another to bandana square, and the 3rd might be to the shelter of the pool across the north hilltop.
OHH AND DON't FORGET "The prize is at a place with lots of space" ......and yes McMurray Fields is listed as a part of COMO Park, and its a HUGE area!
Just my some thoughts. GO COOLER CREW !!! Lets get some chat going!
Hey you, leave Me Dal Leon alone, he can't come out and hunt today; he's closed-up waiting for chat people to come along and answer that mystery question:
Check the History of the Como-Harriet streetcar. You might find this interesting. Also find out who built and designed the bridges at Como. The tracks might tell you where to go....at least they USED to be there
Theres a house on the corner of Victoria (victorious one) that has this really funky fence. It has all these weird circles on it. Its a chain LINK fence with a circular pattern that stands out a great deal
well its only 7:15 but maybe i can take my lunch hour at 8 and get the heck down to como.
I was all over that park this weekend.
Hey thanks for your analysis of the clues
I think your question about clue 6 could refer to the fact that the last time it was in como many people started to dig up around the bases. This clue means look elsewhere.
Rats I may not get out of here at all today. My back up called in sick. AAAARRRRGGGHHH
Ah Hah! I knew there was sumptin fishy goin' on dere. :-) No, she is sick, but I am looking around for back up. I'll just remain calm. Calm while others are hunting for my medallion. :-)
I'm off all week.
COcoaMOcha !
I'm off tomorrow and depending on how the hunt goes, I could be off on Tuesday. Wednesday I have to work whether the thing is found or not. Of course that doesn't mean I can't be out on Tuesday night for the last clue.
Kollin and his friend like the area you were in.
I'm thinking more like something bridging or tracking...but there's time yet to finalize that.
I like the area we were in. It felt a whole lot better than that picnic area.
Who is the RV guy...spotter?
No! The RV guy is the same guy that found the medallion at I-35 and Victoria like in '69.
ohhhhhhhh...
Well, I'm gonna get a couple hours sleep....the rest of this house will be getting up soon.
Good Night
We met him at the prehunt gig at McGovern's last Saturday night. His name is Bill. He lives a bit north of the cities if I recall.
And a Joe to boot!
Goodnight Ian! Goodnight Coolerheads wherever you are!
May Coolerheads Prevail!
SCMDs!!!!!
One last thought for the rest of the hunt...
"If you are sure you understand everything that is going on, you are hopelessly confused." --Walter Mondale
I like reading what Terry Valentine writes; there's always good noodling there. Keep up the good work.
Where'd everyone go????? No more messages....
Good Morning!
Gonna do my best to get out of work early today. Gotta dig....

GOOD LUCK ALL!
E&H's mom: where is "a favorite area of Dad's?"
Hey CC, where is zone 4?

In any case, where the heck is zone 4????????
This chat thing is really fun; not only can I ask people questions...but I get to be the only one to respond to them too -- see:
Hey Me Dal Leon, I don't know where zone 4 is; why don't you continue to ask the CoolerHeads.
Does the word "schizoid" mean anything?
One word... Bridge
Perhaps Everyone is out digging

Where is zone 4?
better rethink those clues
did anyone happen to notice the funky fence surrounding the house on como and victoria?? hmmmm thats circular thinking
BrewMan, read post 24410; very interesting.
Reference to time??? dont matter to me. Anyone who finds it is lucky regardless the time of day.
Jazz, see post 21927 for my take on the circular thinking. IMHO, it's right on.
The medallion is ususally found during the day. It was found at night in '93, but it's rare.
Check the History of the Como-Harriet streetcar. You might find this interesting. Also find out who built and designed the bridges at Como. The tracks might tell you where to go....at least they USED to be there
SueBee, IMHO (I am HO).... what are you trying to tell us???
Theres a house on the corner of Victoria (victorious one) that has this really funky fence. It has all these weird circles on it. Its a chain LINK fence with a circular pattern that stands out a great deal
proper places are all capitalized. Read the clue about East and west. Notice which one is caps!!
Im not sure where its at anymore
I like the idea alot, very sensible. Very sensible, and they go hand in hand together.
Coolerheads, I think you should read about the JI at post #24409.
I like the area by the dutch ovens too. 'cuz afterall its boxed in the word. The word being DOVE it could point to the direction of the OVEns
you're just too funny, Hunter. Yep, that's it, I'm a ho
well its only 7:15 but maybe i can take my lunch hour at 8 and get the heck down to como.

Rats I may not get out of here at all today. My back up called in sick. AAAARRRRGGGHHH
Whats a hunter to do?
so find your backup, hunter, and haul his/her tail in so you can bolt later.
morning folks!
greets ares
Well "hunter", as one "hunter" to another, I'd say you better check if your backup is really sick or if they are really a Coolerhead on the hunt.
what is the latest ideas????
Ah Hah! I knew there was sumptin fishy goin' on dere. :-) No, she is sick, but I am looking around for back up. I'll just remain calm. Calm while others are hunting for my medallion. :-)
Everyone still thinking Como??
That is what I'm thinking Matty. What about you?
