I just e-mailed my cousin out in Chesapeake Virgina. Gonna get her advice on the clues before I leave out this morning.

I just noticed something unusual about this chat page (URL): I have to register and then enter a login name and password; but then, when I want to quit chatting, there's no where to logout of the chat page. It just seems reasonable to me that if they make me log-in to start chatting, then I ought to be able to log-out when I'm done. Otherwise, I'll just surf to another WEB page, and probably remain logged-in to this chat page for the rest of my life (without even knowing I'm still logged in here).

Just something to think about.

Deborah - the track thing would explain 'tracks disappearing'. There are some on the McMurry end of the park. Also there's that quirky little bridge over by the torpedo monument (USS Swordfish) by the lake. Do you suppose that unused bridge that is in sore disrepair is actually an old streetcar bridge? Or perhaps the streetcar went under that bridge.

Just noodlin'

Alright here I go. I have been lurking all week. However, I don't think it is in the zone 4 that seems to be the preference. I think the circular thinking is West Como. Directly as you enter it is Churchhill(Man of Mettle) I think the Lexington is the busiest st. of them all. There is a pathway under lexington just north of Horton. I think if someone were to follow the path towards the nearest picnic shelter they would be on the right path. Back to lurking.

Good morning all -

This medallion stuff is just too addictive. I have never before in all my years dug at night, but last night I really thought I new where it was. Wrong again. I nearly froze my toes of last night. I couldn't even feel them when I got back to the car. Arghhhhh.

They hurt so bad that I totally thought I was out of my mind. Here I was risking losing a toe just for 10 grand. I knew they were getting cold, but I just couldn't go back to the car and risk someone else finding it at my spot. :) LOL today, but I think this medallion hunting can be just as addictive as gambling for some. Is there a former Medallion hunters support group out there?

He did mention old street car when told him old way of travel. Do you know of a park by Vadnais? Or is Vadnais a St Paul Park?

one hot spot for diggin is on the hills of McMurray Field, just down from the humane society (or animal shelter) @ COMO PARK. Lexington and Jessamine.

Haven't Seen any big clue breakdowns so here is mine...

Clue 1 ... Confirms St. Paul park. Duel Could refer to battle of Lexington (Lexington Ave. borders McMurray Field). "Keep on your toes" must be in reference to the hills cause you cant move up and down those hills let alone stand on them without being on your toes ;)

Clue 2 ... Alerts to Golf Courses and Statue(s) (Schiller Statue)nearby and warns to stay away from them :) Possibly a warning to *steer* clear of the private property, which is where parking can be found at the west end of the fields @ the humane society and animal control center on Beulah Lane (parking on the wrong side would be in their lots ;).

Clue 3 ... Golf Course (a round of golf), also referred to as the Links (the course). Letting us know it's a park with a golf course. -- SUE BEE 's idea

Clue 4 ... Clues us in to a larger park and narrows Como to east or west, well most of the celebration is on the west side, the east side would be by the lake. It also mentions playing (i.e. games and fun) which is exactly what McMurray fields is all about winter thru fall.

Clue 5 ... Not Very for Sure Here, lets figure this one out people. Could be many things but nothing fits like "the glove" . But mettle does mean "courage or spirit". Have heard various things including someone a field is named after........HELP HERE! :) And as the fourth or fifth clue usually does i think the last half is at a consensus that it will be found in a dove soap box.

Clue 6 ... Yes riding can be lots of fun, the hills on McMurray are notorious for sledding down (good hills bring a sled!). Also moving off base must be a reference to the softball field(s) and the basepaths.

Clue 7 ... Think back to 1885 (well maybe not), because Bandana Square was originally built then as a repair stop for the, get this ....Northern Pacific Railroad ! sounds like traveling the old way to me, and it is just up the hill bordering the south side of the fields.

Clue 8 ... Adding Cocoa and Mocha CO + MO --> Confirms CoMo Park Could also combine for ----> A Como Coach. Which could be a railroad passenger car @ Bandana across street from Como or the coach one of the fields is named after. Someone also mentioned Memory Lane and said it was a Perry COMO song, Also a possibility is Beulah Lane, which is at the top of the west end of the fields and Beulah has 2 popular meanings (look it up).

Clue 9 ... The train tracks are at the top on the south side of fields, just barely out of view. (or tracks could mean animal tracks from dog walks at the humane society, which are long since covered up because they have been sled over). The opening below is the area of fields which is definitely 25 feet below street level. So proceed up the hill(s). One side the hills lead to the animal shelter, and another to bandana square, and the 3rd might be to the shelter of the pool across the north hilltop.

OHH AND DON't FORGET "The prize is at a place with lots of space" ......and yes McMurray Fields is listed as a part of COMO Park, and its a HUGE area!

One last post of this. Just my some thoughts. GO COOLER CREW !!!

Deborah, since we're now getting outside advice on the clues, I wrote my long lost nephew in Australia. He says he walked by the medallion on his way through Brazil just last week.

If my message doesn't make sense, let me explain it this way: What does anyone in Virginia know about the layout of Como Park?

I would hope so, but it wasn't her. I guess there is a walkway up from the picnic shelter and that's where it was found. Believe me I wouldn't just be saying this cuz I was just about to head out there myself...

Onthejazz, you wrote:

Ok, this is what i've been playing with:

Man of steel - we should discount because the clue says that this cannot be real

Man of Mettle: Pay attention to this one. Churchill is good. Who's Horton btw?

Deal: is a word that I keep coming back to. Card reference from last year? Nothing in Como fits that. Deal also refers to planks of wood made from fir or pine. That's what I've been paying attention to.

Just a couple of thoughts.

Mon, 01/29/2001 - 9:18 AM Permalink
ares

and here's the reason i wouldn't trust anyone screaming their head off: it's an easy way to get people out of the park to get a better chance yourself. unless your sister saw it with her own 2 eyes, make that trup out to dig.

Hmmmmmmm....is it true????....mixed emotions sinking in.....that usual feeling of defeat but also...I can get my normal life back now if it has been found....*grin*

My sister was talking to a guy who was heading down the hill from where she found it and he confirmed it. It's over but at least now we'll get an explanation of the clues, right?
