I'm anxious for AW's hunt again this year, and is everyone gearing up for the Fitgers "scavenger hunt", I'm still going but it just doesn't sound as exciting without the bocks.
The person in charge of the festival is faxing me the list on the Wednesday before hand. I am planning on posting it on AW's club.
If I hadn't made my reservations before finding out about this travesty of a hunt, I would've considered not going, but I do like the festivities and it gives me an excuse to stay in a suite in Duluth and enjoy the wonderful scenery.
Remember, the Mock Hunt starts at 7PM tonight! The prize will be four tickets to see the St. Paul Saints. The treasure is hidden, the clues are (well mostly) written, and all that's left is for the hunt to begin.
Greetings everyone. Its time to start the hunt! But before I do, remember these rules:
Its on public property.
The word "park" refers to any sort of public, park-like land, whether it be a park, rec center, or just a bit of land that's green and one could set a picnic blanket down on. It is NOT however on a golf course, indoors, or anywhere that would require you to move anything other than snow to reach. The clues will come out each night at 7PM and there are 12 clues in all. What you are looking for is a small wooden chest. Inside it are the instructions for claiming the prize. If you have any questions, reply to this email.
And now, for the clue:
Clue #1: As you go on your quest to uncover the chest Inside a St. Paul park is the right plot. For you’ll suspect you’re guess is the best If you can see a past Medallion hiding spot.
I have to leave to go to a movie so I'm sending this a bit early.
Clue #3 As you go around town, looking up and down For where treasure might hide under the snow The path that’s likely to get you the most renown Is the one to grandmother’s house we go.
Clue #1
As you go on your quest to uncover the chest
Inside a St. Paul park is the right plot.
For you’ll suspect you’re guess is the best
If you can see a past Medallion hiding spot.
Clue #2
One is rather small, but the other green and tall
Offering the edge of precision if you start in the west
My apologies for posting this late. I had to go out tonight and since I was picking up a few people I had to leave on time, but I took a nap after work and didn't wake up in time to get online to post the clue. Here it is now though:
Clue #4
In summer the scenery is full of greenery
As one would expect in most any park.
But to know if you’re in the one I mean (hehe)
Look around for an obfuscated landmark.
Then a due southern line will happen to fall
And point to where the treasure doth rest.
Clue #3
As you go around town, looking up and down
For where treasure might hide under the snow
The path that’s likely to get you the most renown
This storm is not helping!!!!!!!!! cant see a thing!!! but not giving up. driving to the park was hard enough in this white stuff let alone getting out of my car to walk through it in tennies- gotta pull the boots out again-good ol Minnesota--gotta love her! anyone else besides cluemaster and me2 out there??? saw someone at the park but do not recognize him. Hunting Ho I will go - probly again about 8 pm tonight. Me2
No, haven't found it yet. Fun clues though. I'll start a little think tank but I feel that most are just lurking.
#1 - Plot - Cemetery?, Look by a previous medallion hiding spot for a small treasure chest
#2 - A small leafless tree and a large evergreen line the west side of the park which should also bring the south end of the park into view as well.
#3 - Looking up and down - downtown buildings, hills, grandmother's house we go - over the river (bridge), woods
#4 - hidden landmark - art work, bench or some other landmark that's easily seen in the summer but partly or mostly buried right now. (Landmark) Center?
#6 - walk, strike out, foul, chalk, home - near, but not on, a baseball field
#7 - Rot - Decay, Arnold (Swartzenegger) - Terminator, Dracula's age - 1000, 666? (street names or what the chest is in)
#8 - 2 kinds of wheels - looking down on planes, trains or automobiles
#9 - Boreas - cold (stay away from the north end of the park) Frosty hue (street name reference), Volcanus Rex (hot - you are hot if you stay to the southern end of the park) Pleasant view (Goodview Ave.)
#10 - Blair -(Underwood?), Linda or Selma Blair, Blair witch, law - police station, Holy Great Danes - dog reference in name of a church nearby. Romeo & Juliet - chest is hidden in a video tape box of the movie.
My time is very limited lately so I don't have many sure things or exact parks, just ideas to help keep things rolling. Thanks for the hunt AW. No need to double up on the clues though. They're fine as is. I'm out of town on business until Friday. I'll get back into it then. Too bad about the extra snow though. Fitgers starts their hunt tomorrow as well. Too bad they didn't save it for the weekend. We were planning on going up there for the hunt since it falls on my birthday this year. (St. Pats Day Saturday!) Oh well, maybe there will be low turn out and they'll reconsider next year.
#1 park you can see a past Medallion hiding spot. #2 ?. #3 over the hill. #4 landmark brewery. #5 tennis court. #6 baseball field, but not on it. #7 victoria. #8 cars and trains. #9 pleasant ave. #10 ?. #10 st clair danes.
So what am I missing here? Ive been looking at linwood for a few days and cant seem to pinpoint the right spot. I searched on the west side, the bleachers area and moved east through the middle checking the benches along the way, ending at the bench by the tennis court. Ive tryed lining up different small and tall green things to make southern lines, but nothing yet.

For those of you driving north tonight for Fitger's Bock Fest, the roads are dry, the weather is wonderful and I cannot wait! Tomorrow is but one wake-up away!!!
I want to applaud everyone who made it out to the Fitger's Bock Fest - it was a grand time again this year. Only one prize was given out this year in the Scavenger Hunt, it was awarded to the person or team to score the highest on the hunt.
The Prize - One Night's Stay in a deluxe double jacuzzi suite at the Fitger's Inn
When you get a chance, could you explain the difference in the hunt this year? Were the bocks hard to find? Did you do the entire hunt on Saturday? How much did you have in receipts, etc. etc. etc.
Congratulations Rush!!! Good going!!!! Did you ever find the Queen?
I thought it was more fun and more interesting than past hunts. It's easily doable in the one day - but there are plenty of things to keep you moving and doing.
TV, DY - I found the Queen Bock after the fact. It was sitting in a planter in the hotel lobby, I was sitting there waiting for the valet to bring our car out front, and then I saw it.
MG - There weren't clues to the Bock locations this year we just had to search high and low for them. A couple were "hidden" in stores and a couple were right out in the open the other "clues" were pretty straight forward, they were questions we had to answer (moderately easy to answer). We also had to get receipts, pictures in front of the stores, and receipts of the values $5-$10, $10-20, $20-25, and $25 plus. In the end I actually ended up with the most total points!
I got into Duluth about 8:30 AM (I stayed in Cloquet the night before). I immediately got all the pictures taken, and set off to count the parking spots. Later I spent the time looking for the bocks and then around 1:30 my girlfriend went to Walgreens to pick up our film, and I went up to our room and wrote the radio spot. It was a lot of fun although I have to admit, it lacked the element of espionage which could be found in the hunt last year.
I truly hope that this forum is available for the 51st Treasure Hunt. It has become part of the event, and helps publicize and educate. Make any modifications you deem necessary, but PLEASE do not discontinue it's availability. There are very interesting discussions during the Winter Carnival. This forum attracted the documentary crew from New York.
I do not object to the use of real names. Anyone who truly wants this to continue should not object either.

I talked to Tami a couple days ago, and I can't understand how a 'local' wouldn't have an advantage over us. Three days' head start !

Congrats, Mr. Harley.

Congratulations Rush. I still wish that they hadn't changed the format of the hunt.
Did you try any of the beer?
That's what I missed the most...ummmm
