Hi all - I had a thought that it would be kind of nice to incorporate something patriotic into this years clues. With the right intelligence they could use us hunters to find Bin Laden. (provided that he's hiding in some snowbank somewhere - where I would be if I were him anyway) C ya

Hey all! It's getting closer!

Cluemaster - That's an interesting idea!

Rushmore - Glad to see you back here. Some year it WILL be back at Mounds!

WW - Is this your last year as an Auggie? It would be a hoot if you won the thing. I'd be sure to contact the school and be sure they made a big deal about it there! That would wake 'em up.

Hey all!!!!! Got a BIIIIIIIIG promotion at work today! I knew it was coming, just wasn't sure when! My only stipulation, I told them I didn't want it unless I got the UNTIRE 12 days off for the hunt! They agreed! As far as school goes, piece of cake! BS is my middle name. Not to mention school comes fairly easily to me! Anyways, HARRIET ISLAND or OUTSIDE OF ST PAUL baby.

Yours in spirit, Jake

Jakey! How wunnerful! Congratulations! Does this mean you've advanced to actually being allowed to get in the widdo cars now? (smirk)

Heard from Trent... JACKIE WON THE MIFF WITH "STALKERS"!!! Official announcement's Nov 26. Don't know what "winning" entails or means, udder than WINNING, and don't really give a ratz south-end either. Winning's WINNING! :D

Ittiznot gonna be outside St. Paul. Ittiznot gonna be in Mounds. Ittizsnot gonna be at Harriet Island for all to tear up. But *where* The Med's gonna be, I'm totally clueless and in the dark! :D

We are some pretty sick puppies; to look past Thanksgiving and Christmas and focus on hunting The Med...

DON'TCHA LOVE IT!!! Thanks gods we've our priorities straight! :D

Happy HOLLOWeen!! Not many trick-or-treaters this year. I am not surprised though.

Jake, congratulations on the promotion! You gotta love a job that is willing to give you time off to hunt for the medallion.

Green- I agree, not Mounds or Harriet. My early predictions - Battle Creek or Hidden Falls. It is sad that we are all so excited, but dang it - the hunting itch comes earlier and earlier each year! I hope someone from here finds it this year.

I think there is too much talk about eliminating parks way too early this year. The only one I would be inclined to eliminate is Como - and we all know there's no rules, no schedule, no pattern. Anything on public property is fair game.

I think we're all excited to begin thinking about something normal, fun and rewarding. It's been a tough couple of months in this country.

Rushmore - I hope it is someone from the cooler that gets it this year....and mostly I hope it is me!

Happy Halloween!

Great job on the promo Jake! It sounds like you'll be pretty much searching more for the fame than the fortune this year. Good things come to those who wait.... That's why I can say, with some obvious cockiness, that I'm not sure where the medallion will start out but it sure could end up in a Cooler Crew coat pocket before it's over. It would make for a fairy tale ending to the flick. Even though it would be totally missing the point if happened anyway. I look at finding the medallion similar to getting a hole-in-one in golf. Once you achieve it, you only want it that much more. I can only talk for golf but I'm sure it's the same kind of thing. I don't think that anybody who has found it in the past has ever said "well that's it for me, time to go into hibernation now that that's done".

November is now here so there's now only a couple of months left. It's almost time to start watching the parks late at night during a snow storm for that lonely medallion hider make their annual trek.

Yada Yada Yada......... I am all for camping at a park during a snowstorm, but what park?? Anyways, I had a dream last night that it was in my cousins front yard in St Michael. St Michael is not in Ramsey county so I think we can rule that out.

Oh come on, even osama wouldnt put the medallion in pigs eye, thats beyond cruel, i know stp park rangers that have never even been their. So we're going for como??? (btw, i beleive the clue writer reads are posts, and moves the medallion around to where we least think it is)

Do we gotta get camping permits? Or can we yust like sleep in our cars?

When we're casing a park.

Sun, 11/04/2001 - 5:15 PM Permalink
Rushmore

I say we pool a bunch of money together and set up some little huts in the parks we think it will be in. Plus, we must make sure that the huts are strategically located as to avoid any hut-clumping. I think we're on to something here people!!

Sun, 11/04/2001 - 10:43 PM Permalink
wrightwinger

hmm, do we need anything more than the camper, a good pair of binoculars and about 3 hunters???

Mon, 11/05/2001 - 12:58 AM Permalink
green

Camper, good 'by-nocs,' nite vision goggles (the Camo Crew oughta have those, as well as the by-nocs...) and a PORT-A-POTTY!

:D

Rush, we can't do huts! We'll stick out like sore thumbs! Gotta be cars/campers...

And if this weather keeps up, they'll not be a'hiding The Med until about the 15th o'January!

Greeny, I was thinking more during the hunt, not prior to it for casing purposes, my bad. However, I have the solution!!! TREE FORTS!! Wait a minute, all the leaves are gone, dang nabbit!! Back to the drawing board!! On a side note, what's the deal with all my exclamation points?

Mon, 11/05/2001 - 6:20 PM Permalink
wrightwinger

thought about nite vision about 2 years ago, outta budget then, still outta my budget now. this would be so much easier if i didnt have school. i love the idea of doing it this sneaky sneaky way of survalience, but we have a 3 month window, on about 20 locations 24 hours a day, thats kinda hard for a small group of volunteers, cuz it wouldnt have to be a snowstorm, especially since the PP can see our movements.

ahhh, all stirred up already, the muscles are yearing, the wheels in my head are turning, and allready i feel sleepless in saint paul. btw, think we should ban together to save the twins???

Mon, 11/05/2001 - 10:00 PM Permalink
ares

rush, if the problem is that the leaves are gone, you're using the wrong trees.

Tue, 11/06/2001 - 9:41 PM Permalink
Rushmore

Good point Ares! I guess I can scrap the hovercraft plan now! Back to the basic tree fort. I'm thinking three levels, how does everyone else feel about this? Wouldn't Ma freak if we did band together to spy on each park?

Tue, 11/06/2001 - 11:09 PM Permalink
King Boreas aka Ian

Saint Paul

40 rec centers, 9 parks

Ramsey County

5 regional parks, 9 county parks, 1 special use facility, 5 regional trail corridors

etc. etc. etc.

wrightwinger

think only 2 levels on the tree forts cuz the 3rd floor is always haunted. but thats 49 tree forts right??

Wed, 11/07/2001 - 4:05 PM Permalink
Rushmore

Okay, so we've got 49 possible locations to spy at. I am thinking at least three forts at the big parks. I say we can ditch Como this year, therefore, we are down to 48. 24+40= 64 forts at two levels each. Hmmm, how big do we want these to be? You know, 64 in one or two months seems to be a daunting task, we should build 1 a month over the next 5 years or so. That way, we can set them up, build them spaced out, so that we don't go bankrupt. Another thing that we should do is a cost/benefit analysis of how much we would win, and how much time and money would go into building the forts. We are off to a great start though!!!

Wed, 11/07/2001 - 6:45 PM Permalink
Terry

You ain't gonna find me climbing up into no tree fort! Nope! No way!!!!

Besides - about the time they drop that thing in a park, we'll all be up to shoveling ourselves out to get to or from work and school. Not to mention getting our walk ways cleared before the city comes and does it for us. That's why the PP has such a good plan. They know when they drop it, there won't be spies about because we'll all be busy just stuck in some massive traffic jam or won't be able to get out of our driveways.

Wed, 11/07/2001 - 8:43 PM Permalink
wrightwinger

thats why we always have someone awake at each fort. i assume that if we make our group big enough to find that, and if one of us finds the medallion, we'll each get one dollar, minus the cost of the forts. ok, about the TWINS, i cannot beleive their considering killing off a 100 year old franchies (60 years in washington), and not the few year old devil rays.

Wed, 11/07/2001 - 9:43 PM Permalink
jakeinge

1. GO TWINS!!! And take the VIKINGS with you. 2. If anyone is serious about scouting parks I am ALL for it, when it snows we each know where to go!!!

WW, I am right there with ya man! Why does Florida need two friggin teams? I hope something can be worked out to keep the Twins here, where they belong!

Why does Florida need two friggin teams?

Florida is a huge state compared to Minnesota. There's about 3 times as many people in Florida than Minnesota. Don't the Devil Rays have a 30 year lease on their stadium? The Twins only have one year left on theirs.

It's crappy no matter what. Why don't they give Pohlad $250 mill to buy a new stadium versus $250 mill to close up shop?

cuz that would make too much cents, jt. and when you think about it, if major league baseball's got a quarter bil to buy off losing teams, wouldn't one think that the more capitalistic decision be to build the stadium themselves????

let's get to the hunt.

the twins franchise is historical, the first team to ever draw 3 million in a year. twins also have more fans than the rays. but as of the tree forts, we dont need to have a fort in one of the big parks, cuz if none of the other forts report anything, its their. so thats 68-1, bringing it down to only 67 tree forts.

Rushster, you gonna be in charge o'the caravans to up nort' fur them there trees? To make the forts? Gonna need lots o'trees... And we can't be whackin' away at the trees in the parks to make our forts, else we can kiss further Hunts "good-bye."

Why can't we just do igloos/snow forts? 'Sides ittiz more fitting, dontcha think? We can fly Mom P tee's from poles on the tops! Flags!!!

I've dibs on casing Phalen. As you all know The Med WAS there last year before they decided to move it to Newell when I was hot on the trail and Mom Press decided it yust wouldn't do if green was the only rite purrson. Naturally, The Powers That Be will want to throw us all off (me, especially, The green Genuis!), sos I'm sure it will turn up in Phalen rite quick like.

I bet Trent's having six different kinds o'seziures with us not having any snow yet and the temps as high as they are...

This could be a good thing, tho... I'd be rite happy to find The Med hidden in a frosty, yummy Pina Colada!

:D
