2002 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.

Jokysu

If everyone has been taking guess at which park, long before the clues come out, I might as well make my guess too.

I say Highland. Hopefully anyway. I scoped it out real good last year with the earlier clues, so I know a good amount about what is there. At it is probably the closest park to my home, which makes for good late night digging and allowing enough time to take a short shower before going to work. Hehehe :)

We're going to have to get back to being up late night. Cept eventually instead of meeting here late at night, it will be at a snow-covered park

Nice JOE!!!, Joky... The "650" one...

Look at that, I think I got a JOE! Right all?

Never done that before and didn't even try this time.

I'm not a posse member. I'm just a member of the Fellowship of the Puck

I would hope it were to be at Highland. It is close, but there is a smaller park which Green has mentioned, which is closer to me and I would prefer it being at.

Thanks so much Tim. I was also wondering if there was anyway to recognize you guys out at the parks. I have dug by myself for the past 5 years and I feel I am missng out on a lot of late night digs because my husbnd says it's not safe to be out so late by myself. (He would be with me but someone has to stay home with the kids!)

Joky, you got your "St. Paul Parks: A Treaure Hunter's Guide," by Steve Worthman?

If snot, hang it up, kiddo. Ittiz the definitive, end-all helper to Hunters.

Cheap. And he'll even autograph if for you!

I choose to hunt with only one other person. My dad. He is really the only one in the family with the same drive as I have. My husband thinks I am wacko about the whole hunt thing.

If he knew I was on the cooler already, he would probably flip out. Once the clues come out, I can never stop thinking about them and it drives him crazy.

I guess I will have to get my son involved this year. He likes to eat the snow. Maybe he will be able to eat the snow off of the right location. Maybe I should use his technique rather than the shovel?

Who knows. It could work.

Green - I don't have the guide, but I do a lot of internet searching during those weeks. Can learn a lot about the city if you know the right keywords.

However, that can also lead you down the way wrong path. The internet can give you information that even the clue writers may not know. Then you get really confused.

Snow mommy, there's a gazillion o'us that are quite nutz and crazy and very harmless.. REALLY! That you could hunt with/meet up with. Same for you, Joky.

Very harmless, but certifible. Yes. Difinetely.

Join us at McGoverns on the 19th and meet us mano-a-mano... Get to know us, then go out with the ones you're comfy with.

Look at that, another Joe. Too bad that Medallion hunt isn't on now. Tonight would be my lucky night I think.

Snowmommy, I think I remember talking to you last year about getting you out late at night to dig. You should come to the pre-dig gig. Meet people on here, make friends, get some digging buddies. If you're out during the day digging, look for Coolerheads. And as I think about it, if you're digging in a place where others are, you should be okay. I don't think that anything bad would happen with lots of diggers out. Someone would be too stupid to do anything where lots of people with shovels and hoes and other possible weapons are being wielded.

Jokysu

I am game for the pre-dig gig. I will have to mark my calendars. What time does all the fun begin?

Fri, 01/04/2002 - 11:44 PM Permalink
ThoseMedallingKids

The only thing that will keep me from the pre-dig gig will be my girlfriend visiting. But even then, I may try and bring her. Trying to relate to her the craziness and fun we call the Medallion Hunt. And would this be classified as the Devil's Joe?

Joky, if luck were based on JOES!, I'd have found The Med a billion times over!

Know what you mean about being "led a stray" by The 'Net... I've found more crap out there I've read into The Clues than snow pile on the hidden Med!!! LOL!!!

TMK - that was always my take on digging late at night alone. Only did it once, but wasn't worried one bit. Not sure anyone would have wanted to take me on with my pitch fork in hand. :) Nearly froze my toes of that night.

Note to self: get warmer boots for this year's hunt. :)

Snow mommy

Not that this is a bribe or anything...BUT I have a cousin who works at Swiss Miss and I always have an endless supply of hot chocolate on hand. So maybe letting me hook up with you guys could help keep you warm, which would in return keep us out longer. Maybe it's the advantage you guys needed to fnally be the ones to get it!

This is my fifth year on the cooler, but last year was really my first year of getting to know the coolerheads in person. I had fun times with Green and Jake and Tim during the days and nights of filming. I remember late night digs with Scribe and Leelabell. It's more fun noodling with fellow coolerheads, cracking jokes as you dig, pushing each other on to dig more. Time flies when you're having fun.

Jokysu

Snow mommy, the swiss miss thing is a great idea. However for me, I think I would spend most of my time looking for a port-a-potty then rather than the med. J/K

LOL :)

Oh my goodness, must be getting tired. My jokes are horrible.

Sorrels. Only way to go.

I was digging at Phalen - the year The Med was moved to Newell? - and all by myself at 3:00 AM. And I mean ALL BY MYSELF!!! Snot another soul ENYWEAR!!!!!!!! And I was fine. Wasn't scared...

Snot with The Spotters circling around me like that...

I am going to try to make t to the pre dig party. I have t clar it with the hubby, because that would mean he would be home with all 3 kids. (Which I'm sure he wouldn't mind as long as he doesn't have school that night.)

I guess I better be getting on to bed. That early rising son of mine makes each day such a delight. Great days, but why can't he sleep in later than 6:30 AM?

Take care all. Have a great night.

Swiss Miss would come in PRETTY HANDY at The Fifth Annual Re-Hash Bash... (batting eyes seductively...)

Joky, I think we usually get going about 7:00 PM at The Pre-Dig Gig. But with all Cooler Crew thighys, ittiz pretty loose. Come when you can; leave when you gotta.

Palomino JOE!!!

It might be a school night for the hubby? Tell him to take the sacrifice for the team. You deserve a night out!

Ahh, the re-hash bash. I think I remember Scribe trying to find me a nice woman to hook up with. I pass that torch on to Tim this year. Shouldn't be too hard though for him, once he finds the medallion.

Woo Hoo, I get to get hooked up with some crazy 20+ chick who likes medallion hunting, celtic bagpipes, and collecting old nazi machine guns!

I'm more apt to call it a Fellowship of the Puck, in honor of the movie out and the book which I recently finished.

If you get hooked up with them, you'd be doing better than me. I got hooked up with nothing last year. But I'm not complaining now :)

What are the requirements for being in your posse?

Fri, 01/04/2002 - 11:59 PM Permalink
Snow mommy

I am pretty sure he deserve a reak from school soon so I as thinking in a couple of weeks he should take a few days off and just study at home, while the kids are napping and when I'm not picking his brain for ideas and thoughts. Actually that reminds me I have to stock up on Pot-pies, frozen pizza and Mac-n-cheese so the family can eat during the hunt, usually I am to busy to cook, clean and so on.

I don't know, but you are in because I like the way you hunt. Plus ittiz really your idea, you said you were gonna follow me so you could get the medallion before me. IT was probably sarcastic, but all sarcasm is lost on me in these boards.

Yes, it worked out very nicely. Snow mommy, where does he go to school? What's he studying? how old are your kids? What started the Spanish Inquisition? What is the speed of an African swallow?

Tim, I think you're cool. That's why I may seem like I pick on ya, but I'd dig with ya, and not to find the medallion before you do.

Kids, you are quite possibly the coolest person I have met digging. I pick on you because you are short.

I feel like I should do my best Yoda impersonation. "Judge me by my size, do you, hmm?" And with a compliment like you gave, perhaps I shouldn't find the medallion this year, so I don't lose that sentiment ;)

I'll bet you dollars to do-nuts, Buster, if I think The Med's in a certain spot in a given area - say *the* area like the West Pic-a-Nic Grounds - that you'd hoot your way from here to Chicago and totally ignore me.

You're rite. Ittiz all water under the bridge. But don't go telling me you'd have dug in ANY specific area I deemed was The Mother Lode! Even if it had been 2" from your left foot!

JOE!!!!!
