2002 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.

Good Evening!

Keep an open mind folks! There are no rules for hiding the thing...other than it be on public land. It won't be on a golf course and unless the PP wants a big lawsuit, it won't be in Maplewood. After that it's a crap shoot. It could very well be in the same park two years in a row, it could be at Phalen, it could be a Mounds, it could be at a rec center.

Something I just plagerized from Mr.Sense on the other board:

"The only reason some people get lost in thought is because it is unfamiliar territory."

Not aimed at anyone,I just liked it!:)

I get lost going there often. Hmmmmmmm interesting thought. Maybe I'll get lost in that one too.

Sun, 01/06/2002 - 7:46 PM Permalink

Instead of trying to noodle clues yet to come, maybe we could talk about what has been our favorite hunt and why.

I wonder if Wright Winger will wear his burned fatigue jacket to the bash? That was funny when he got his jacket on fire.

mine was probably conway, taught me a lesson on never doubting myself!

Sun, 01/06/2002 - 7:48 PM Permalink
Terry

Or do what we did to my littlest sister when she said something naughty about this time of year...

we told her to stick her tongue on the metal clothes pole!

Sun, 01/06/2002 - 7:49 PM Permalink
Liquor Lady

And not to be so quick to follow the crowd!

Good thing he had his back to the burner otherwise we would have had a weeney roast.

I liked Como the time before last,it was a blast when we were all lined up to the grove of trees digging.I liked the clues for the last Battle Creek hunt, letters times three...

I like Chair-o-key cuz that was my old high school stompin ground and I learned that Old navy sold socks!

Sun, 01/06/2002 - 7:50 PM Permalink
Liquor Lady

OUCH! I did that on the fridge when I was like 8!

Sun, 01/06/2002 - 7:50 PM Permalink
Terry

I think my favorite was the first Newell Park hunt. There was soooo much snow...and some guys were digging tunnels in the snow banks around the hockey rink.

Liquor Lady

my car got towed on that como one! we were on our way to that spot and got pulled over!

Sun, 01/06/2002 - 7:51 PM Permalink
Scribe

How about that hunt at the Capitol Mall Ter?:)

Sun, 01/06/2002 - 7:51 PM Permalink
Terry

I wouldn't rank that one as my favorite, Scribe. Nope. Uh-uh. Daughter has yet to go hunting again after that.

Sun, 01/06/2002 - 7:53 PM Permalink
Scribe

I hated the one at Swede Hollow when I was 12 years old.....all those old people cheatin with metal detectors! I used to bring bottle caps and bury em in the snow.....

Sun, 01/06/2002 - 7:53 PM Permalink
Terry

Though it did teach me a lesson about when and when not to be a mothering mother.

Sun, 01/06/2002 - 7:53 PM Permalink
Terry

I really hated those metal detectors! It felt so much like cheating...didn't have my vision of what the hunt was about.

Sun, 01/06/2002 - 7:54 PM Permalink
Liquor Lady

I havn't been digging that long so never got to experiance the metal detecters

Sun, 01/06/2002 - 7:54 PM Permalink
Scribe

Not to worry Ter,she seems to have turned into an exceptional young woman despite the horror of that day!

Sun, 01/06/2002 - 7:55 PM Permalink
Terry

But I want her to hunt with us again! I figure she was lucky once and should be again.

lived in hinckley for a long time and never heard about the hunt till I came to stay with my aunt and uncle about 10 years ago

Sun, 01/06/2002 - 7:56 PM Permalink
Scribe

Well she came to the pre-dig gig last year it's a step in the right direction.....

Do you really think she's lucky?

We could tie her up and prop her up in the park......:)

Sun, 01/06/2002 - 7:57 PM Permalink
Liquor Lady

ok so i'll bite, what happened to her ter?

Sun, 01/06/2002 - 7:57 PM Permalink
Scribe

Go ahead Ter,it's a tradition, kinda like "The Night Before Christmas" on Christmas Eve.

This will be our 31st hunt together. Incredible.

My least favorite hunt was at Tony Schmidt's in Arden Hills. It was so incredibly cold! I swore I'd never go out in that kind of bitter cold again.

Sun, 01/06/2002 - 7:58 PM Permalink
Scribe

Bitter Cold? Try harriet Island in '96! I was 8 months pregnant.....yuck!

Scribe, where did you go to school again? I forget

Sun, 01/06/2002 - 8:01 PM Permalink

She found the earmuffs. She wanted to keep them. I had her look around at all the office buildings around the Capital Mall and I gave her the mothering story that someone probably dropped them going to or from work and she should put them back. That was like 3 or 4 clues into the hunt. Later when we heard that it was found in one of the ears of those earmuffs, she swore she'd never hunt again if when you find it, your mother makes you put them back.

Oh Scribe, I know what I was going to add to your myth. You're a 300 lb guy with a hairy back pregnant by my girlfriend's grandfather who you met on Springer as a hairy taco, and you're going to have labor induced at the park the medallion is hidden at so you can continue digging up until the baby is born and soon after the birth.

Sun, 01/06/2002 - 8:02 PM Permalink
Liquor Lady

oh god ter! how much closer can you get! I think i would keep going until I foud it again just to redeam myself!

Scribe...it was never at Swede Hollow. And also, Jake and I were not digging up the picnic tables at Como. We were very close though. We have it on film.
