2002 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.

what's still under construction at harriet?

I'm pretty sure the construction at Harriet Island is done, or at least done enough. I wouldn't rule that out. I do think Mounds is unlikely. Still not sure about Phalen. Highland Park is about due again though.

Well I drove by there yesterday just to see how the place looks because that was actually my top choice before Phalen, there still seemed to be some construction things around there.

I got that joke Ares. Thought it was pretty funny. I suppose I should come up with a better line for mine.

I'd actually want it to be Highland. It's not as big as you think and I live about a mile from it.

I liked Hidden Falls at first...but then it occured to me that they wouldn't do the same thing done in recent past. The year it was at Conway, Newell was the prime suspect deep into the hunt, then the next year...it was at Newell. Now last year Hidden Falls was a prime target into the hunt, I find it hard to believe they would use the same tactic so close to each other.

They have this stage they are building with this thing hanging between two towers. It probably looks like something that is under construction, but that's actually how it's supposed to look!

don't change it allison. yours suits you perfectly.

TeddyKGB3

I like it Allison

Tue, 01/15/2002 - 11:35 PM Permalink
Rob Norris

Hmmmmm well in that case here are my prime targets then....

1. Harriet Island

2. Phalen

3. Hidden Falls/Crosby Farm Park

4. Highland

You know what would be insane? Is if they hide it at a place like Linwood. Didn't they hid it there one time like in the 70's?

Tue, 01/15/2002 - 11:35 PM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

I don't think Hidden Falls was much a prime suspect last year as Newell was the Conway year. During the Conway hunt one of the early clues said "as well as the new" or something and everyone went to Newell. But I checked out Hidden Falls last year around clue 5 or 6 and didn't see much activity there.

TeddyKGB3

Jesus...Linwood can take more people than it appears

Tue, 01/15/2002 - 11:36 PM Permalink
TeddyKGB3

Allison, maybe it was just me...I had my heart set on Hidden for a while last year.

Tue, 01/15/2002 - 11:37 PM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

It's never been at Linwood, but it would be quite interesting if they did put it there since that's where I hid my treasure in the my Mock hunt last year. If so, there would be at least a few people familair enough with it that they'd probably spot it right away. Would also be interesting to do a direct clue comparison. Let me see if I can get my clues from last year...

that is true teddy, I took a look at the Treasure Hunters Guide the other day and Linwood was much bigger than I thought.

TeddyKGB3

BTW Ares, It was checked and I was Highlander last year(thanks Usual Suspect)

Tue, 01/15/2002 - 11:38 PM Permalink
Rob Norris

Actually Allison it was hidden there. It was on a street corner I believe.

Tue, 01/15/2002 - 11:38 PM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

I had actually never been to Hidden Falls ever until last year, but now I've been there several times, mostly this last summer.

Tue, 01/15/2002 - 11:39 PM Permalink
ares

it wasn't actually in the park in '69. below it, but not in it.

Tue, 01/15/2002 - 11:39 PM Permalink
Rob Norris

At least the PP made it easier on hunters when they said they would only put it in St Paul Parks

Tue, 01/15/2002 - 11:39 PM Permalink
Rob Norris

Below it?

Tue, 01/15/2002 - 11:40 PM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

I think what it was, was the year it was hidden under an overpass, it was the one where 35E crosses Victoria, which is just down the hill from Linwood and visible from it, which led to my first clue...

Tue, 01/15/2002 - 11:40 PM Permalink
TeddyKGB3

I hate to say it, but by me not being there I hope the hunt is short and painless this year. I don't want to experience the torment of not being there

oh teddy. as long as you're paying attention to the board, you'll be here even if you can't physically hunt. and with that i'm off to bed.

Clue #1 As you go on your quest to uncover the chest Inside a St. Paul park is the right plot. For you’ll suspect you’re guess is the best If you can see a past Medallion hiding spot.

Clue #2 One is rather small, but the other green and tall Offering the edge of precision if you start in the west Then a due southern line will happen to fall And point to where the treasure doth rest.

Clue #3 As you go around town, looking up and down For where treasure might hide under the snow The path that’s likely to get you the most renown Is the one to grandmother’s house we go.

Clue #4 In summer the scenery is full of greenery As one would expect in most any park. But to know if you’re in the one I mean (hehe) Look around for an obfuscated landmark.

Clue #5 Someone serves, but not hors ‘deourves There is love but there is no romance. Men and women watch each other’s curves And move their feet, but do not dance.

Clue #6 It’s wise to not balk if you have to walk But be careful as you strike out to explore. The treasure is far afoul of the chalk And home isn’t even close to next door.

Clue #7 The rot of the mummy can turn your tummy And Arnold’s cyborg displayed a murderous rage But their ill timing can make you look like a dummy. So instead take a clue from Dracula’s age.

Clue #8 Wheels that go both to and fro Will guide you to a valuable find But as you look on them down below Be sure you see more than one kind

Clue #9 The legend of Boreas is quite glorious And his northern dominion has a frosty hue. Meanwhile Vulcanis Rex is quite notorious Still, look to the south to get a pleasant view.

Clue #10 If you still don’t know where the treasure hides in its lair And it seems these clues aren’t following the usual laws Perhaps you might get a hint from a famous star named Blair Why you may ask? Oh I don’t know, maybe just cause.

Think thou not of Hamlet, but of Romeo and Juliet If starry eyes are to bring thee riches and gains. In Hollywood, not Denmark, is this story to be set As thou seeketh treasure and Holy Great Danes.

Clue #11 Dan and Lynn hunt for fun, craziest of theorists bar none. Yet often in the past near the treasure they have stood. Their secret to success is that two heads are better than one So if Dan didn't know where to look then perhaps Lynn would.

Having roamed far and near, and yet found nothing dear Perhaps you’re starting to lose your tenuous sense of mirth. But maybe you can draw help from our friend Shakespeare And orient yourself with regard to his place of birth.

Clue #12 If you don't already know, Linwood is the place to go Behind a field of sport where a female king used to play. If you line up a post to intersect a couple of walls You'll find the secret hole in which the treasure doth lay.

I think I'm off as well. God it's nice to finally have a worth while convo on here. It's nice to have the real hunters in here for once without the pests that roam around in here.

Well, if there is going to be a general exodus, I suppose I should finish what I was trying to work on earlier and then get to bed myself. See everyone tomorrow.

I can't wait for the medallion hunt to actually start, so we can dig, and hopefully find!

Tue, 01/15/2002 - 11:55 PM Permalink
ThoseMedallingKids

The wait is too long. Then the hunt will come and go, much too soon. Then we'll be saying "I can't wait for next year's hunt, that will be my year, I can feel it!"

Tue, 01/15/2002 - 11:58 PM Permalink
tim_the_hunter

I will be saying, "wow that was my year, I told you so." And "I will be the first to be a repeat finder"

TMK- that always happens. The worst was Newell though, I hated how short the hunt was, you wait and wait and then-----BAM, it's done so soon.

I have been so anxious for this years hunt, moreso than any other year. I don't know why though.

ThoseMedallingKids

Rushmore, I didn't like that either. I missed the beginning of the hunt. Realized it was going on by about the 4th clue, and shortly after that I think it was found.
