Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.

Dalliance - The 1st clue usually says specifically "St. Paul" where the med will be hidden
On Med Hunter's website, he posted the rules for 2002, which say Ramsey County. So, if the clue does not specify St. Paul, couldn't Keller be an option?
M D it could be hidden in Maplewood, but the City of Maplewood thinks us diggers are a threat to there lovely parks and don't want the dig there. The even threatend WC with a lawsuit it further digs were there.
Alison Hi nice to see you back. I was looking at my bookmarks for some excellant noodling you did last year about the frequency of what the clues refered to, ie where it was hidden , what is was hidden in etc. do you stil have that info...?? it was the best post ever, but I can't find it anymore
Apparantly the City of Maplewood has their undies all in a bunch about the medallion being hidden there. They've basically said "Stay out or else" to the PP. I don't know the details, but that's why most are assuming it won't be in Maplewood.
However, assumptions are made to be proven wrong...
Hmmmm, not sure if I remember that posy, but there's a ghood chance I copied it from something I posted in my Yahoo club. Maybe it's there? I'd have to look though.
Thanks for the info on Maplewood. I'll stay far, far away. I would love it if the med was found 6 inches over the Maplewood/St. Paul border, on the SP side.
Dall - I actually hope it's at phalen this year...That's where i start every year just because i know that park inside and out. Every year i hope, but it's never there.
I actually dug at Phalen early in the hunt last year, mainly for practice, before everyone figured out it was at Como.
What do you think about the possibility that it might not be at a park, but just on public land. That hasn't happened in a while -- since 1989 at the Capitol mall. Seems overdue.
My personal feeling is I prefer this format. That way, I can go back and see what was missed, or look at previous noodling when a new clue comes out to see what may have changed. Is there a way to archive live chat like this board?
Someone once told me that her company conducted all meetings with everyone standing up . . . not even the biggest airbags can do that comfortably for 2 hours.
actually dalliance, it wasn't all that bad. all our conference rooms have got theose really nice and really expensive herman-miller aeron chairs in them. real easy to catch some zz's in :)
After a dark winter snowfall, cold frost in my hair Warm smell of hot coffee, rising up through the air Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light I put my shovel down and dropped my Guide So I could track off through the white. There she sat on a snow mound; With a laptop hooked to her cell And I was thinking to myself, 'This could be Heaven or this could be Hell' Then she brought up the website and she showed me the way There were voices there in every post, I thought I heard them say... Welcome to the Hotel Coolerfornia Such a lovely place In this Medallion Race Plenty of room at the Hotel Coolerfornia Only once a year, you can find it here Their minds are Medallion-twisted, tracking all the clues’ trends There’s a lot of crazy, crazy people, and they’re all friends. How they noodle the clues, thinking they’re all set. But the mistakes they made last year, they do tend to forget So I called up the Sysop, 'Please don’t make me whine’ He said,'We haven't had a monitor here since nineteen ninety nine' And still those voices are calling from far away, Keep you up in the middle of the night Just to hear them say... Welcome to the Hotel Coolerfornia Such a lovely place In this Medallion race They huntin' it up at the Hotel Coolerfornia What a nice surprise, if they find the prize. well, leela, i think my era of songwriting hath come to an end. allison took the torch and ran with it. and in the process did a much better job than i ever could have.
Now to get back to New Daddy, I'm trying to remember what he was asking about, and if it was even me who posted it. Here's one thing I found:
"The criteria I used for my likely parks are:
1) The Medallion has been hidden there at least once before.
2) The Medallion was not hidden there in any of the last five hunts
3) The hiding place is in St. Paul
4) The park doesn't have "issues" (i.e. being gated off at night or home to ancient burial places)
So here's my list of the non-issue-having St. Paul parks with the last time the treasure was located there and the number of times its been there:
Battle Creek (95)(3) Highland (94)(5) Hidden Falls (93)(2) Langford (91)(1) The Capitol Mall (89)(1) Kellogg (85)(1) Irvine (77)(1) Marydale (72)(1)
Going by the above criteria, this list would have been accurate in 11 of the last 12 years."
To that list this year we can add Harriet Island and technically Conway (but I doubt that). I think Phalen could also be added to the list as I'm starting to doubt that they're purposely avoiding it. After all, why avoid Phalen and not Battle Creek? And I'd change the rule to not being involved in any of the last three hunts. Which would make this list accurate in 11 of the last 13 years.
Arlington Hills, Baker, Belvedere, Dayton's Bluff, Desnoyer, Dunning Field, Duluth & Case, Eastview, Edgecumbe, El Rio Vista and Park Castillo*, Front Street, Frost Lake*, Griggs, Groveland, Hayden Heights, Hazel, Highwood Hills, Hillcrest, Homecroft*, Jimmy Lee, Lawson & Rice, Linwood*, Margaret, Merriam*, West Minnehaha, Martin Luther King, North Dale, Orchard, Palace*, Prosperity, Sackett*, Scheffer, South St. Anthony, St. Clair, Sylvan, Valley*, Wilder
(*) might be considered a park as well as rec center
Unlikely Parks:
Como (was there last year), Conway (was there 3 years ago), Newell (was there 2 years ago), Rice (under construction, small, downtown, full of lights)
My feeling on the Phalen gate issue is that they close the gates if no one is there. But if it was there, and there tended to be people there around the clock, they would leave them open.
ok allison, i got the original song out and had to modify your lyrics just a touch to fit the original rhythm better:

2K2, Dogg, Allison, Frosty, anyone there?
Yeah
Hi Dogg,
On Med Hunter's website, he posted the rules for 2002, which say Ramsey County. So, if the clue does not specify St. Paul, couldn't Keller be an option?
The rules also say that the winner will get $1200 of groceries from Cub. Munch on!
M D it could be hidden in Maplewood, but the City of Maplewood thinks us diggers are a threat to there lovely parks and don't want the dig there. The even threatend WC with a lawsuit it further digs were there.

Dall - You know, I don't know for sure. I don't think it has ever been in Maplewood. I'm pretty sure Keller is ruled out...not 100% on that though.
Apparantly the City of Maplewood has their undies all in a bunch about the medallion being hidden there. They've basically said "Stay out or else" to the PP. I don't know the details, but that's why most are assuming it won't be in Maplewood.

Afternoon, everyone...my first visit of 2002! Just wanted to say hi!
Hmmmm, not sure if I remember that posy, but there's a ghood chance I copied it from something I posted in my Yahoo club. Maybe it's there? I'd have to look though.
what up cabingirl...Allison. Nice to see you.
Thanks for the info on Maplewood. I'll stay far, far away. I would love it if the med was found 6 inches over the Maplewood/St. Paul border, on the SP side.
Mornin'/afternoon, Cabingirl.

Phalen would be nice for me too, it's close to my house. But it's sooo big!
After the early find at Newell, maybe they'll tend toward big.
personally, I think they will keep the med in parks just for the "crowd" sake. parking and space might be issues on public land. Just my hunch...
I am giddy in anticipation......whazzup yall?
what up randy...ready for some diggin?
I am ready....I am willin' an I am jacked....
You would think Ma could garner up the know how and the coin to pt a live chat deal together??? I mean HELLO....2002 here!!
MA had a real time chat function at one time.
My personal feeling is I prefer this format. That way, I can go back and see what was missed, or look at previous noodling when a new clue comes out to see what may have changed. Is there a way to archive live chat like this board?
Frost - I agree...I love to go back and read what i missed.
afternoon everybody.
god i hate meetings. just got out of a 2 hour long one.
step, weren't you known as stepdogg even when you were back in high school?
Ares...how are ya??!
for the record, the northern half of phalen (that which is north of larpenteur ave, is in maplewood.
been better, like at the conway hunt when i was right there and left, but anyhow....
Someone once told me that her company conducted all meetings with everyone standing up . . . not even the biggest airbags can do that comfortably for 2 hours.
well, maybe the biggest . . .

Do you paint wide-awake eyeballs on the inside of your glasses so that you can catch some zzzzz's during meetings? :)
thank you allison!!!! that will be come a classic. people will write songs about you.
Nice! I think Allison has penned this year's theme song. Now, how to record it?
Ares got me started on it. :-)
well, leela, i think my era of songwriting hath come to an end. allison took the torch and ran with it. and in the process did a much better job than i ever could have.
Awwww, Ares, keep working on yours for next year.
and i'm supposed to top that how?
Um, ask Allison for help. :)
how do you think that one came into being?
Ooooh. A cooler scandal. Did Allison run with your idea?
It's ok Ares. You can take comfort in being my muse. hehe
ok i will.

Allison, Phalen does have gates that are closed at night. So that may make it an "issue" park.
Would parks with issues benefit from Prozac?
My feeling on the Phalen gate issue is that they close the gates if no one is there. But if it was there, and there tended to be people there around the clock, they would leave them open.
