2002 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.

I am the Walrus

Is it bigger than a breadbox? So to speak, how tiny is the treasure?

You can be. Depends. More folks cover more ground. More heads and prespectives to noodle the clues and try and figure stuff out. But, on the other side of the coin - no pun... LOL!!! - more 'Heads to muddle up the clues, too.

Would you share if you found The Med? That's something to think about and that you might want to talk over with your co-diggers.

A lot of us here dig some alone, then hook up with friends, then dig alone, hook up with friends...

Do you dig in a team?

The Medallion's a small pale blue/tourquisey disk of lucite, or some kind'a plastic like that. Ittiz opaque. About 2" around, and about 1" thick.

Quite a lot of us noodle and dig about 18 hours a day during The Hunt.

Whooaah. I can't put in that kind of time!

Fri, 01/18/2002 - 6:46 PM Permalink

Walrus, if you can, try and put more than one thought together/in a post. Otherwise folks have to back track to catch everything you said... Some important stuffs could get missed!

Capice?

I hunt alone and with friends. I don't dig too much, kind'a kick around the snow, as I R very lazy! LOL!!!

What doe's your wife say?

Fri, 01/18/2002 - 6:47 PM Permalink
green

My husband-to-be? Not much. He knew I was certifiable when he met me...

Lots of us take off work/take off school/take vacation/lie to bosses, you name it!

Lots of us only hunt after work/school and on weekends.

Sorry. No one was talking for a while. Second sorry..."husband".

Well, if I just want to figure out the clues and maybe dig a quarter as much as other people, what is the best place for hints. Tips and such?

Fri, 01/18/2002 - 6:52 PM Permalink
green

Not a prob, and don't worry about it Walrus!

Well, check out www.coolercrew.com

That's a good place to start for a HUGE history on The Hunt. All the clues from all past Hunts are even there.

Hang out here, with us Coolerheads, The Cooler Crew. When not out digging (or sleeping one-two hours...) we're here eating and noodling clues.

You'll get to know folks here and if you want to maybe hunt with some, they may be open to it.

Then just go to the park you think The Med's hidden in; find the spot that seems to be indicated from the clues, and then dig!

Don't destroy tho. Like don't dig to China. The Medallion will NOT be buried under ground. It will be above ground, either just lying on it, or buried in *snow*.

I have less than 24 hours to earn the mercy of my sweetheart, who as usual, will be looking beyond the insanity for about two weeks. I suppose now is as gooda time to start cleaning the entire house. I should hurry too, cuz I'll need to get to bed early. This will be my last good night of sleep until I find the Treasure.

Man, if you can clean THAT huge house THAT fast, you're something!!!

See you tomorrow!

Whats the "thing" to eat at McGov's. Do they have anything special.

By the way is this just a cooler get together, or is it a pre-dig gig for everyone in the hunt.

Fri, 01/18/2002 - 7:20 PM Permalink
green

The Pre-Dig Gig is open to anyone that enjoys The Med Hunt and anyone *they* know! :D

You can hang out here, or not. Bottomline is having fun and noodling the first 'nothing' clue.

McGovern's is known for their hot turkey sammychiz.

Ha Ha, someone aready picked up on my sammy. Alright thanks green, I'm thinking I'll be there.

How do we know who is who, besides saying "Hey who are you"

Fri, 01/18/2002 - 7:27 PM Permalink
green

You don't.

I suggest you introduce yourself first, "Hi! I'm Usual Suspect." And then folks generally tell you who they are. A "Hey, who are you?" may get you blank looks and no reply...

You won't be able to miss me. I'll be dressed in green! :D

Fri, 01/18/2002 - 7:30 PM Permalink

Alright i think i'll start looking for you then, then have you direct me to the rest of the crew.

Good Evening!

Ian - Love your 2nd line - one of my all time favorite songs.

I think a lot of people are getting their stuff together so that they can spend the next 2 weeks getting next to no sleep and ignoring their household chores.

and I got a Palina-Joe! I remember like yesterday, when Hannah was born, the Dr. that wound up doing the delivery kept trying to make small talk and we had a long discussion on her name and how it was a palindrome. I hated that guy - wanted MY OWN Dr. to be there!

This is the latest that I've packed my car: handwarmers (the 50 cent ones from Menards), lanterns, ice chopper, extra gloves, spade, heater, etc. Normally, it's in the car a couple weeks early.

I am gonna ask this again later too I think, but-has anyone heard of Lamprey Park? It sounds familiar and I cannot place it. I can't find my parks book either.

Ian, I like a LOT of music from the olden days! LOL!

MY car is not packed. Our house is in chaos, and since "Dad" and his Dad started to "clean" the garage a couple weeks back, that might even be worse! I'm probably going to wait for the inspiration to hit me, and then go out there throwing stuff and cussing cause I can't find the implement I'm looking for at midnight!

AX-MAN has some cool stuff... I got an Extreme Cold Weather Mask that is WHITE and kinda scary lookin' for $5.00

I, too, got the handwarmer's from Menard's. But I got the like six to a pack. And some water proof mittens, some liners for them, and these weird sox that are like SCUBA diving like things... And a mask that you can roll up into a hat.

Evenin', All!
