2002 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.

I've not packed a thing... Doing warsh. I *have* made a list tho... But I still need batteries. And flashlight bulbs.

The scuba sox sound interesting. Dad bought me a little propane heater that you can use indoors or out, that's my newest acquisition. I've never used handwarmers.....do they really make that much of a difference?

Me2, had you not mentioned about the handwarmers at Menard's, I'd not have known about them, so I'm glad you did!

Me2 - I remember seeing that the daughter that's OUT is the 5 year old....how old is the one that's home?

ooooooooooh yaaaaaaah.

very very nice for the fingers and toes. They last actually about 5 hours each and are worth every "on sale" penny! especially when waiting downtown at the Pioneer Press for the clue to come out.

Actually because of our basement-they have come in handy just sitting here at the computer.

Sarah is 10....and bugging me to use the internet right now.

This is my first year for them, Mom. So I don't know yet. But I'm thinking ittiz better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick...

I saw the sox that Trent got last year... They come with batteries and keep your feet warm... But, they were like $15.00, even on sale, and then with all the batteries I imagine you'd go thru!

I couldn't find Sorel liners (Fleet Farm... WHY have I been saying Menard's? SHEESH! I'm really tired, I guess that's why.) only had one pair left - a man's Size 13! And they were still really xpensive. So, I figured with my old liners, these funky SCUBA-like sox and regular sox, my feet *should* be warm...

If not, then I find some Sorel liners I guess.

all I know is 5 acres and on the wide bottomland bordering the river at the east side of the riverview district. maybe the name changed over the years and its Mendota. ??? Seams kinda big to overlook.

OH! OH! Where did you get *that* much info? I think that's the "park" on the Shepard Rd. side of the river. I KNEW it sounded familiar - I was looking for it a year or so ago.

I found it in an old book like Smith park sounded familiar but didn't remember (Mears). I remember something like a Lamprey Feild? but that sounds like baseball.

Hi Terry--

Ian-what the heck was all that stuff at the end of the 2001 board? I don't get it. All those inserts? from you on Jan 2 2002 inserts of 1998.

I'm going fro again for a bit...but should be back sooner rather than later.

Gotta find some hot chocolate, email the family to let them know we made it north and wait for this house to warm up so this keyboard isn't freezing cold!

nevermind.... I have exhausted all the sites I know about looking for a Lamprey Park. I guess just seeing it in print a couple times made me believe in it. It does sound so familiar. The one I thought it was is actually Lambert's Landing.

I couldn't find anything either.

aaah, good idea E&H. But, maybe it is a mythical park that Ares roams in :)

Fri, 01/18/2002 - 9:46 PM Permalink

There *is* a Lamprey Pass State Wildlife area, but it is close to Forest Lake.

Hey, I just found a post from last year by me and I read it and guess what it said? "I could really go for some now but I have my Baileys and coffee" hahahahaha I havn't changed much at all! post 27106

There is no more info on Lamprey park (1885) in this book so I will look further into it tomarrow. See if I can find anything else out in any other books about it. I will let you know.

There have been many parks renamed- what if the "park" is ever reffered to in a clue by a past tense-old park name? never know.

Fri, 01/18/2002 - 9:52 PM Permalink
me2

Heeeeey, I am starting to really wonder if Ares exists...reading back...I wrote in 27102 that he was NOT at the Re-HashBash!

Am I typing to myself again :)

Terry

Back! Things are warming up here a bit.

All the city parks I can think of have had the same name for their whole existence. Are there any that have changed?

Is Crosby close to Hidden Falls?

I might check it out on Monday too.

Fri, 01/18/2002 - 10:11 PM Permalink
Terry

Crosby is very close to Hidden Falls from my memory.

Hidden Falls was actually a fun hunt. I wouldn't mind hunting there again.

Fri, 01/18/2002 - 10:12 PM Permalink
'mom'

Yeah, Ian. Crosby is right down the Road at 35E and Shepard Road. They kind of link together.

Fri, 01/18/2002 - 10:12 PM Permalink
me2

kinda, it is off Shepard Rd. but I think it is railed off at night. mostly a trail.

Fri, 01/18/2002 - 10:15 PM Permalink
