2002 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.

Terry- I can't believe it actually says that- but it does! Not at Harriet Island? That's weird! Have they ever ruled out a specific park in the rules before?

The Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt medallion is hidden on public land in Ramsey County, but not at Harriet Island, on a golf course or at Como Zoo. The Pioneer Press reserves the right to discontinue the Hunt at any time if public property is destroyed.

Wow, I would say that there is going to be something in the clues that would lead us to Como or Hariet.

Sorry Jake, see what you created!

Mornin all!

'Morning All.

Wish Da Yooper and I could be with y'all at the Pre-Dig Gig tonight, but will have to settle for being there in spirit. It'll be fun to noodle the clues from afar until we can get to town.

LLady, very good noodling!

Did anyone notice that in the 2000 clues it said,

Set your own pace and it could make you an ace If your grasp of these clues is astute So get yourself out and into the chase And you just might win all the loot

"Ace" refers to the fact that the medallion is hidden inside a pack of ACE brand playing cards.

This is false, I have a picture of the coin and what it was found in.

BICYCLE brand playing cards.

Good Morning!

The closest thing to a cubed gem I can think of is an emerald or an emerald cut stone of some other sort, Liquor Lady. Can I just say this is a bit early to start anagraming street names! LOL!!!

The Como Zoo, though part of Como Park, is separate. I would just assume that rule says to stay away from the zoo part of the park. Not that it's likely to be at Como this year again, but you never know.

There was one time when a specific park was mentioned to stay away from but it was in the clues, not the rules. That was Phalen the year the ice castle was there.

Morning All!

Parking is never easy down by McGovern's - but at least there's no hockey game going on down there tonight!

I think Highland or Hidden Falls are not bad early guesses, but I really think it's time for the *other* side of town. Phalen really doesn't seem that large once you take away the golf course and the parts that lie in Maplewood. And it hasn't been all that many years since Battle Creek.

Hmmmm - maybe this is a year for a new and obscure park?

tim_the_hunter

I scouted Highland and Hidden Falls yesterday with tmk. Highland seemed like the way better choice, although maybe that means Hidden Falls would be better? The one thing that made me nervous was the park hours: sunrise to 10 pm, and the gate.

Sat, 01/19/2002 - 9:21 AM Permalink
Terry

when it was at Hidden Falls before, the gate stayed open during the hunt. Not to worry.

I know Terry, I guess that it COULD be there. I just don't like it. Nothing there that I could see.

That was actually a very good hunt that year. Lots of people, lots of digging, decent weather and a fun hunt.

Highland is certainly a possibility. I was just thinking the clue writer wouldn't likely want to use a park they've already written one set of clues for, unless they had some inspiration of some new ideas. I think they'd be more likely to try a new park (for them). And I'm betting they will continue their bias against the east side.

You're prolly rite, Allison, about avoiding the east side, but I hope not.

Not unless the Cods are snotty in the far nordeast like they were at Conway...
