2002 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.

did someone mention my name? yes i took off early yesterday afternoon. went out to afton to do some skiing. well more like plowing the slopes for 'em. and now my body's paying the price for that. methinks i'll not be at the gig tonite :(

anyhow about changing your dsl isp. i changed from qwest to visi back in december. wish i'd have done it sooner. to do it, figure out which isp you want to use, call up qwest's customer support and tell them you want to change isp's on your dsl line. they'll give you a due date when it should be done. then call up the new isp and get an account set up. pretty simple really. one of my co-workers made the change to msn. he wishes he hadn't cuz he's had nothing but problems.

me2, i don't care about the afc games all that much, but i'd kinda rather see the packers play at soldier field. mostly cuz its a guaranteed win for green bay!

Me2,Nother one of my stompin grounds in high school! I actually dated a korean boy from the west side but all his freinds were mexican...we were a strange group!LOL! WE liked to hang out on the old green stairs over the caves and do goofy dangerous stuff!

Parque Castillo is a little park on the mexican fringe...lots of work was done to it bout four years ago.A group of girl scouts and myself designed a native garden there.

Hi all: Just caught up with all the postings. Some very good noodling. If they mention Osama in any of the clues, I'm searching the caves listed above ;-)

>No purchase is necessary to win. Photo copies, handwritten and/or online printouts of the published clues will be accepted.

Seems like Ma Planet is changing her rules now.

I'm confused...at the top of this page it says "But remember, you may not print out the clues for the Pioneer Press prize. You must clip the clues out of the Pioneer Press newspaper to be eligible for the whole $10,000 prize", but the rules also say "No purchase is necessary to win. Photo copies, handwritten and/or online printouts of the published clues will be accepted."

What gives?

Sat, 01/19/2002 - 12:42 PM Permalink
alfabob

Hey Eags; I don't know why the Planet now has contradictory rules either. Where did everyone else go? (probably left to go get a 2-week PP subscription) LOL

Yeah, that will be a pain in the a$$ if we have to buy each and every paper. I'd have to have my sister save them for me until I get to town.

hi, I am still here...I just happened to come across that too just now --they must have just posted that - it was not there 2 hours ago. (?)

I think that is a dumb rule anyhow--to clip the clues. I would hope that anyone in the cooler would be willing to give up there clippings to the winner if they didn't have them on them at that moment(some may for a small $$). The PP tries to get around that too by offering the "losers" with the clue clipping drawing. I always forget to get mine in.

Maybe we should contact Sysop to find out why the discrepancy.

Sat, 01/19/2002 - 1:05 PM Permalink
Eags

Maybe the sysop is misinformed.

Well - what is it....? is it midnight Jan 19 or midnight Jan 20? Is Jan 20 considered at 12 midnight OR would it be 12:01 Jan 20?

Sat, 01/19/2002 - 1:07 PM Permalink
alfabob

I'm thinking midnight tonight, or 12:01am Jan. 20.

Mornin all! um afternoon?

Me2- Phalen also has islands in side it. I used to love going to Wolter's with my Great-Grandma!

Scribe- Have you ever done "Stairway to Heaven" at Lillydale? Or theres another cave under Mississippi Gorge(pretty sure they closed it off though)

Thanks for the good memory triggers!

Sat, 01/19/2002 - 1:10 PM Permalink

Yup- midnight tonight. Says so on their clue posting site.

me2

We considered buying Wolters from the family when it closed but could not come up with the mil it would take to buy & keep it going for the first yr. and afraid to take on such responsibility-- Wonderful place. My husband was the Manager of the whole thing and I did the advertising and newsletter. Really miss it.

not when the clue comes out-it just sounded funny-Jan 19 midnight when the clue is supposed to come out on the 20th-- so is midnight tonight the 19th or is midnight tonight really the 20th? not what they have posted-wondering if they are right or wrong?

I still like Swede Hollow (I liked it 3 years ago, as well. LOL) Near Railroad Island, lots of history. And if the clue writer goes for a "patriotic" theme this year, there was a reference in the Swede Hollow history I posted yesterday that talked about somebody's granfather always singing "America the Beautiful' or " God Bless America" or something like that.

so they are putting the clue out early? hehe by 1 minute

and do we still get the clue 1 hr early at the PP? 11 pm

The Cooler Crew bumper stickers are finished! We'll have them at the pre-dig gig, more if needed at the re-hash bash.

Eags

Yeah, Wolter's was a great place...never was disappointed with anything I bought there.

The caves, eh? The place our mothers FORBADE us to go! Oh, but it WAS fun!!

Artemis The Huntress

Marley Kings Official pre-dig pick is Crosby Farms, he said it "glowed" when he was there.

Hi All!

Back south again. Looks like we had another touch of snow overnight!

Can't wait to see the bumper stickers!

I feel like they already gave us a clue by changing the rules. A Pre-clue clue!

It has me thinking that there will be references that would lead us to HI, possibly other parks along the river- Hidden Falls, Crosby Farm, Mississippi Gorge, Indian Mounds, or Cherokee. Also, like Me2 was saying, Islands makes sense with a bunch of different parks.

Hi Terry- when you say down south and up north (yesterday) I pictured you way up at a cabin in the boonies-oil lamp and all--you got back quick.

Terry

It's a house in the woods - about 1 3/4 hours north. It has all the modern amenities...electricity, heat, air conditioning, and plumbing. Plan on retiring there someday.

Afteroon all! Can't wait to get this party started and dive into the clues. These couple extra inches of powder will add a little more to hunt. excited for the gig tonight, hopefully meet some of you there

Sat, 01/19/2002 - 1:45 PM Permalink

nice fall. plowed the slope with my shoulder. movement is rather difficult. but as they say whatever doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.

Sat, 01/19/2002 - 1:46 PM Permalink
Med2k

Hope that doesn't affect the digging

Sat, 01/19/2002 - 1:47 PM Permalink
Frosti

Ooh. Gonna make it tough to shovel if that doesn't heal up quick. I'd say you've got at least 5-6 days to rest it before the clues will compel you to get out there.

Sat, 01/19/2002 - 1:48 PM Permalink

well i figure i won't actually be digging for a few days anyway the ice and the advil should have things under control by then.
