Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.
thanks, that is kinda neat. kinda confirms that there arent any rules about what park it can and cant be in. otherwise they would have put those parks, like mounds. glad I took back my harriet island prediction because of the possible destruction.
I truly believe that Marydale would be too much of a risk this year with thin ice. If it wasn't for the lake issue, that would be a good park - especially when there wasn't snow around. Lots of trees and undergrowth around there.
Only reason I throw marydale in there is the other 3 are so big, they might put it in a small, seldom (once in this case) used park to throw everyone off, bigger might not be better, but then again that could be way off
The thin ice is also a good reason too, but if they write the clues far in advance, there is no way of knowing weather there will be thick enough ice or not
Tim - Keep an open mind. All except those mentioned in the rules are fair game. Don't start eliminating in your mind too early. That could cause you to miss something...like the correct park!
Don't make your picks fit the park...make the clues lead the way to the correct park.
I've been thinking about Harriet Island, and I feel that this is an indication of what's to come.
Years ago Maplewood was eliminated, now we need to rule out one of the majors in the city. If this is the case this year, it will be the case going forward. I don't see this park ever being eligible again.
Its a shame. Just like you guys, I don't destroy when I hunt. However, in our collective frenzy, we're perceived as ravigers of the city during the event. And with a fourteen million dollar pricetag, I'm sure some phone calls were made to keep us away.
Granted, the war zone we leave to the quiet of February may look awful, but the snow will melt and the grass will grow as usual. Ironically, one spring flood can do more damage to that park than fifty years of treasure hunting in all parks.
Go figure.
In that we've got limited control over the various morons that are clueless to the obvious.
You'll see them this week. They'll be looking through the trash or sticking their shovels into places that they shouldn't. Perhaps they may cause a chain of events that lead to the arrival of an ambulance? I don't know...those high voltage boxes always tempt me.
The year we (collectively) "destroyed" Chair-o-key Park, we (some Coolerheads) agreed to meet there when the snow melted to help repair the damage. We got there and the part looked pretty good! We picked up some litter, but everything else was in good shape. I don't think there is typically much damage done. A few, who dig up soil, wreck trees, etc., give the rest of us a bad name.
I wonder if the grounds at Harriet Island are pretty fragile due to LAST year's floods, and they'd just like to give it a rest for this year?
I dunno....I think its about damage control and the fact that the city has focused a lot of attention to the development of the Riverfront. You maybe right, Ares...give it some time to age. Yet, the Riverfront project is only part complete. The powers that be may not be keen to this event coming to this "investment".
I don't have any plans for tonight...big or small...unless you're talking about the pre-dig gig! :-)
Had a good nap and now it's just a matter of getting dressed up and finding my way to McGovern's.
My take on Harriet Island - at least for this year - is that there's new sod and much investment in the new park so it was decided by whomever that it would not hold up well to a hunt. I may think differently about that if it shows up in the rules for next year as well.
I like the Highland idea OR a small park. The clues could make you think Highland but probly could lead to the Highland area in a small park (noodlin')- feel like I am making up my own "fantasy hunt" :)
why?
cuz the rules have been changed to say so.
really? is there a link?
http://www2.pioneerplanet.com/wintercarnival/rules.cfm
Any reason why Ma press would do that?

Well dag nabbit! It figures.
I guess I'll change my tag line.
Still have my strong 4 possibilities: Highland, Phalen, Hidden Falls, Marydale
i'm with ya on those first 3, 2k2.
no need to change your tagline steve, the pics are still cool.

Highland, Battle Creek. Those are the only two options.

Steve- please bring a ton of guides, I need to make sure I can get one.
TErry- you know that I know that. I just like confidence.
Be confident in your finding the medallion...not the park...not this early!!!!
I figure in the small chance that i don't find the medallion, the powerball is up to 70 million, i have a shot at least winning one of those, right?
Lol, I think it would make sence if it were in highland or bc. I am not sure that it will be, far from it, but I wouldn't be very surprised.
joe
Guess I'll go get a shower and a nap. Might as well be bright eyed and bushy tailed for tonight.
See yaz all later!

eventually, steve, hi will age, and its probably a safe assumption that it'll be back in the running.
and very funny about the high-voltage boxes. my dad's an electrician and he's got a line that no one dies on his watch unless he does it.

either that, eags, or harriet island is *so* close to the water. admittedly, the river is pretty much open, but still.

however, after it is "complete".... and with the sudden change, that should be proof to anyone that the press does indeed read the board.
Less than 8 hours!!
Just want to wish The Cooler Crew the best of luck in the Hunt, and have a great time at the "Pre Dig Gig" tonight!! I'll be following you from afar!
hey lou! and thanks for the luck.
So..... anyone got any big plans for tonight? ;)
Whats the deal with no harriet?
Thanks Lady Lou!

joe!
I wouldnt let anyone see me if half my body didn't feel like mine!
They got snow in Ohio - I am sure it will come here soon. What we got earlier thismorning was not even worth claimin'. But I hope that wind goes away.
ok I really gotta get off this thing if we want to be there at a decent time! see ya!

And just think...by midnight tonight, we won't know much more than we know now unless they specifically say it's a City park.
Gotta go-will be back OR see you tonight...bye.
MCGOVERNS, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! See everyone there :).
