Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.
Well crap!! After I just slogged through the last oh, 600+ posts from yesterday, I am ready to head out for McGovern's. Well, see you all there. Except Ares, of course.
Ares, you should come to the gig, maybe the fun atmosphere would take your pain away from your mind for awhile. Just a thought.
The Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt medallion is hidden on public land in Ramsey County, but not at Harriet Island, on a golf course or at Como Zoo. The Pioneer Press reserves the right to discontinue the Hunt at any time if public property is destroyed
I guess we can rule out Harriet Island cause of the official rules
Why not at Harriet Island, where does it say that? It's been their 4 other years - the last time in 1996. I know last year it was at Como so it won't be there this year. Also I am ruling out Newell (2000) and Conway (1999)
Ok so last year after the medilion was found, I went down to McGoverns and went in the back room and nobody was there. I did not know there was an upstairs. Come to find out everyone must have been up there.
In McGoverns in was to the left when walking in, thru another room to the next one. It wasn't upstairs. (At least I think it was last yr and not the yr b4 that I went). Anyway I now believe there is an upstairs, but just ask a bartender when you walk in as to where they are at.
I guess it should state in the paper in the rules if it is not in Harriet, etc.
Well SD I hope they make it difficult and long. Wouldn't that be great? I like to stew...Right now I have the 28th off, but doubt it will still be around to keep looking. We'll see...
Perhaps not till next Sunday - we'll see. It has been hidden in a lot of things I would never had thought of that even if there wasn't snow, it wouldn't have been the 1st thing I would have looked in.
I got the 28 off too. If its not found by then the clues will have it narrowed down to the park by then. So it will be well worth the digging. I will probaly only spend 4-5 hours looking this year.
I'll certainly think about it. Would love to have someone to go with. I haven't been able to find anyone that wants to go (except for the folks that are here at the Water Cooler :-)
Well - it is nice to know there are other West St. Paulites out there! What are the rules about the suburbs anyway? Are there any general rules as far as where the medallion can be found in one? Or just as long as it is a St. Paul suburb?
"The Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt medallion is hidden on public land in Ramsey County, but not at Harriet Island, on a golf course or at Como Zoo." - Well I guess it won't be in Dakota County! I just read the rules as someone previously stated the above not long ago, but I didn't know where the information came from.
"At the end of the 2002 Hunt, Pioneer Press Treasure Hunters have the opportunity to take the published clues to Twin Cities Cub Foods Stores for a chance to win a $500 or a $300 Cub gift card. Clues and entry information must be dropped off at any Twin Cities Cub store by Feb. 14. A random drawing will be held Feb. 15, and winners will be notified by phone."
I think I will have to try the above even if the clues elude me...
Annie, sounds good. Sometimes with a lack of snow and warmer weather, the difference is made up with a GIGANTIC park! like... Highland!!!!! I know, it's been there several times, but the big parks mean it might not get found right away, besides if I found it, I would hang on to it for a day, for giggles ;)
enjoyed seeing all you cooler heads tonight at mcgoverns. the award for best outfit in our opinion is liquor lady. see you in the parks. good luck to everyone. freeze baby and treasure girl.
"Like many events since Sept. 11, this year's Winter Carnival will be tinged with red, white and blue as parades and sculptures salute love of country and the nation's heroes." (on the Pioneer Press website) - do you think these themes will also be included in our Hunt?
I want to get the clue tonight and see the gang at mcgoverns, but I gotta appear calm to the wife & kids for the first few days so they don't lock me up when the dig gets serious
6 hours until the madness!! I am stoked.
Anyone around?
Hey Dogg!
Artemis:
Scribe- Have you ever done "Stairway to Heaven" at Lillydale? Or theres another cave under Mississippi Gorge(pretty sure they closed it off though)
Uh,yeah,I've been there....real spooky experience last time though...before they closed it up...never would go back there!!
Ares!
Thats it,I really don't believe your a real person! I think you are the super computer generated guy from the old Wonder Woman series!

Anyway, see ya'll in a while.
2 hours to go! Good luck to all. I hope we all find one. But if only one of us can find it I hope its me, or at least a member of the cooler crew.
So, §©®¡ß¢., who are you? The person perviously known as someone with a real name? Just kinding. Really what does your alias mean?
Thanks.
PS, you better not find my precious, my precious, it is mine.

Hello every one, another year, another hunt. This will be my fourth hunt. Good luck
Hi SpaceDog - it must be quiet in here due to everyone being at McGovern's Pub. Went last year, but stayin' home this yr. Can't wait till 11 pm!
Annie U still here?
yeah I'm hear. Just got off track looking at the Winter Carnival website of events.
all right
Ok so last year after the medilion was found, I went down to McGoverns and went in the back room and nobody was there. I did not know there was an upstairs. Come to find out everyone must have been up there.
I wonder about Harriet with it having the Target stage and it being flooded last spring? just a thought..
I didn't go last year either, but it might've been nice considering knowing a few more diggers

I hope they hide it close to where I live in Mac/groveland neighborhood. Not alot of snow this year should make it really easy.
I hope it is in West St. Paul - I see it was in Marthaler Park in 1979 but I don't even know where that is, but it would be nice over here.
so when do you think it will be found, Usually the clues have it narrowed down to 2 or 3 parks by Saturday. I bet it will be found on Sunday,27 jan.
I don't know, maybe in WSP, but then at was at Cherokee...
Since there is not alot of snow I think they won't reveal the park until sunday's clue.
Well SD I hope they make it difficult and long. Wouldn't that be great? I like to stew...Right now I have the 28th off, but doubt it will still be around to keep looking. We'll see...

Anyone want a digging partner for the fun of it, let me know. Especially when the park is known. ken_ng3@yahoo.com
I wonder if the early edition of the Sunday comes out with the clue in it? I guess I never checked
I'll certainly think about it. Would love to have someone to go with. I haven't been able to find anyone that wants to go (except for the folks that are here at the Water Cooler :-)
Check out http://www.pioneerplanet.com/ for the 1st clue at 11 pm.
Bonus - I live in WSP, but lose interest when going alone. I have cousins that go once and awhile, but we end up at the pub.. if you know what I mean.
Well - it is nice to know there are other West St. Paulites out there! What are the rules about the suburbs anyway? Are there any general rules as far as where the medallion can be found in one? Or just as long as it is a St. Paul suburb?
Suburbs would have to have a St. Paul park within the city limits.
Cherokee is in St. Paul, and anything North of Anapolis
Gotta take a short break, it's book time for one that won't go to bed.

hey annie, where did the quote about not at Harriet Island come from?
'Maybe' - It is in the rules at this page:
http://www2.pioneerplanet.com/wintercarnival/rules.cfm
Diggorius - if things do get narrowed down, perhaps we can get together and go to look - at least we'd be starting out at relatively the same point!

Dig - yeah it's been at Highland 5 times, but the last time was in 1994 - 'bought due for a return.
I also enjoyed meeting you cooler heads and I wish I could have talked to more of you. See you in the PARKS.
HELLO! Anyone here?
What's up?
Not much...been a while since I used the water cooler. Brying to fix my prefrences
I donno why, but I have a feeling the treasrure will be at either Highland, or a small small park
"Like many events since Sept. 11, this year's Winter Carnival will be tinged with red, white and blue as parades and sculptures salute love of country and the nation's heroes." (on the Pioneer Press website) - do you think these themes will also be included in our Hunt?
Any Idea when the clue is released at the paper??
i'm here. in pain, but here.
Thats it,I really don't believe your a real person! I think you are the super computer generated guy from the old Wonder Woman series!

I want to get the clue tonight and see the gang at mcgoverns, but I gotta appear calm to the wife & kids for the first few days so they don't lock me up when the dig gets serious
