Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.
Allison Wonderland
I am glad to see it's in a St. Paul park. That means I should be able to use my Treasure Hunter's Guide!
And we know it's not at Como Zoo, not that it's likely to be anywhere at Como again this year anyway. It's hard to know what to expect though with a new person. Really, anything could go.
Did you send that bumper sticker to Greg for the coolercrew site? If you haven't, could you?
I found it interesting that they have Como Zoo listed in the rules. Much more surprising really than Harriet Island. The Zoo part of Como has always been off limits. I guess they didn't want anyone hunting at seal island.
I'm kind of glad now I didn't come up with a puzzle or game for tonight. With all the people there, I think it would have been next to impossible to try and run one anyway.
I've had a few minutes to digest this first clue. I think that this is a replacement clue written at the last minute. I'm guessing the original clue said something about winter not being here, and alluded to the lack of snow as a hiding place. This writer seems to be reassuring us that since there is snow, we should expect it to be buried.
But, I do agree with Allison in that the previous clue writer would not have sent somthing so shoddy. They have had a week since the snow fell, plenty of time to make up a new clue. Shoddy workmanship on the cluewriter's part.
I tend to agree - but I also think with a new cluewriter - or even the same one - a difference in the style, syntax, etc. - could mean a longer hunt...or at least that's what I'm sure they're hoping for in the end.
Another idea related to the spark thing...a fire ring or a park from where fireworks can be seen...not necessarily the Capital Mall, but from a vantage point like Cherokee or Mounds.
If "spark" or "far and wide" did have any meanings, I think they're too vague for us to be able to accurate guess at them at all without perhaps some further context in the additional clues. Not that anyone is actually planning on digging based on this clue, but I think one can come up with a ratio of perceived accuracy of clue interpretation to digging effort expended, and in this case I'd say the ratio is very low. Which is to say while we can come up with guesses as to what it might mean, it wouldn't be worth using up digging energy to explore those guesses.
I can only imagine what sort of contraption that Professor Guy on "The Simpsons" would come up with. "We take the clues that are given to us, put them through the anagramalyzer, compare given characteristics from the clues to those given in the Treasure Hunter's Guide, check the meter and syntax for meanings, play the clue backwards to look for any hidden meanings, and cross-reference with probability of parks having the medallion and we come up with...... The Boundary Waters Canoe Area."
Why thanks, Artemis! Hey, I like that. I am glad I asked - I just kept seeing SCD's and wondering what that was - I looked on my sheet of stuff like LOL, OTOH, etc, but didn't find it. Now I know why :-)

I tend to agree with you, Allison. Just trying to keep an open mind about stuff.
The bottom line is we know where it's not...Harriet Island, golf course, greater Ramsey County.

Hi All! It was good to see everyone at McGoverns, both familiar and new faces!
Hi Marley!

Marley - I'm meaning the jpg, gif or bmp file....though I'm sure he'd like one for his collection.
I couldn't get over the crowd! This is definately growing in participants.
Will Do Terry! Will send Monday.
I think they thru in the zoo because of last year, because there were people digging in the zoo last year.
Will also send .jpg :)
I wasn't aware of that. I guess there's so many new hunters every year that they haven't quite figured out the obvious places to stay away from.
Nice seeing everyone at McGoverns!! I can't believe the turnout! Talk to you all tomorrow!
Goodnight, Jake! SCDs!
Jake - Tommorrow we dig! SCD's

Before I start finding hidden meaning in "Far and wide", I'm heading for the sheets.
Goodnight, great to meet so many new and old crew members tonight, SCDs!!!

Professor Frink, Professor Frink, he'll make you laugh he'll make you think...Glavin!
Yep, the ratio is low at this point. However, it may mean it's a big park with the "far and wide" reference.
TMK-LMAO!
What the heck does SCD's mean?
Sweet Cooler Dreams! :)
Is everyone Hitting It for the night.
Why thanks, Artemis! Hey, I like that. I am glad I asked - I just kept seeing SCD's and wondering what that was - I looked on my sheet of stuff like LOL, OTOH, etc, but didn't find it. Now I know why :-)
Not me, not yet anyway :)
Add it to the list :)
Just for a wild guess, how many clues do you think this hunt will go.
I'm gonna say 10
Tryed doin an anagram for "you light a spark", but didn't come up with anything :( thought just maybe it would be "__________ Park"
Oh well, it was a thought
Hopefully 12, but maybe 10-11
hey if you wanta think like that you could say S____ Park
but there is no park that starts with an S except Swede hollow
I think thats a park, right???
The longer it goes, the more challanging it is, the better. Makes it more fun!
for sure, newell sucked
what was that like 7 or 8
"S" Park was my first thought! When I heard the clue at McGoverns that was the first thing I thought.
I really S-Park would be giving alot away, On the first clue.
I think theres a couple little parks that start w "s", besides Swede Hollow, that would mean a park its never been at
I wonder if they consider a Rec a park? I think any rec is a park but i really doubt its at a rec, but ya never know
You're probably right, but its what hits me-besides the obvious.
Oh and theres also the State Capitol
But is the state Capital a park??
When it was at Conway they said Park, and thats a Rec Center, so I don't see why not
One last JOE to say good night coolerheads everywhere, scd's, and happy hunting y'all.
Well Its Capitol Mall, But it's been there before
Oh yeah, so i guess anything is possible
Darn Those Medalling Kids! :)
can't wait for tomorrow night, but thats always the case during the hunt.
nice to know its in St. Paul
It looks like it has only been at the Capitol Mall once b4 tho.
Yep, lucky 8000. I would have gotten it too, if it weren't for those medaling kids!
SCD's everybody. Only 20 hours until the next clue!
Yeah wasnt that the year it was in the earmuff
