Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.
Scribe
Well you see,I was musing that the cluewriter has a preoccupation with superheros......"man of mettle" from last year and "Have no fear" as in superman is here...this year.
Therefore:
This guy reads way to many comic books and must then have put it in Belvedere Park.
i'm not getting the connection between belvedere and superheroes. i'm prolly just too young :)
as for burns, according to the guide, theres quite a bit of woodsy areas in which to hide the puck. but would the cluewriter give away something that obvious this early?
not so much from a point of where it is, but looking at where it isn't. if you've got a park that only got a couple of inches of snow last time around, and doesn't get a lot of protection from the sun, its possible that the snow may well be gone from it!
or they're confirming for us that its actually in the snow somewhere.
I happen to thing EVERYONE has done too much noodling for one day./ It's fun tho, eh?/ But we shall know a bit more when midnight strikes,/ until then our brains are only turning into *yikes!!*
Oh well, good thing I don't write clues, I am certainly not a poet, and I am glad I know it!
I picture a handful of people sitting around the table, figuring what sounds best next, them arguing over what will work and what won't work in the clues - kind of like all of us when we try to hash it out! It cannot be just one person who writes the clues each year. Impossible.
One person writing the clues isn't impossible at all. Although I will admit that I suspect after one person writes them, at least one or two other people will maybe do some editing possibly. But one person can do it. I don't think it's really that hard if you follow certain procedures that have probably been handed down through the years.
So anyway, after Clue #1, here are my top picks in order:
Hidden Falls
Phalen
Highland
Battle Creek
Marydale
Irvine
Langford
These may change as right now they are more based on assumptions from past patterns than they are on the clues. But right now I would estimate there's an 90% chance it's in one of these parks. A 9% chance it's in a brand new park, and maybe a 1% chance it's in either Mears or Indian Mounds.
I don't know why it doesn't work in Netscape. I tried it in Explorer and it works for me. Perhaps for now on your tag line w/ your URL you can state that it needs to be viewed in Explorer. It's been a while since I updated my own website.
Allison, good list. Mine is rather short this year:
Capitol mall Battle Creek Marydale Phalen
I still think a pre-clue was divulged, however, the clue writers of the past have always been pretty straight shooters. They don't seem to diverge too much from year to year.
In the 1950's, when the hunt started, there were eight hunts and they were all new locations (not too surprising).
In the 1960's 6 locations were new, and 4 were repeats.
In the 1970's 7 locations were new and 3 were repeats
In the 1980's 6 locations were new and 4 were repeats
Since 1990, there have been 12 hunts during which two locations were new and 10 were repeats.
I may have to revise my previously stated numbers. I guess the possibility of it being in a new park is probably actually at least 20% if not higher. Granted, as time goes on they run out of parks more and more, but there are still a lot out there that haven't been used.

Also both Burns and Belvedere are near Holman Field.....and Annie B. wants to tie this with the Sept.11 theory....have no fear of planes?
ohhhhhhh! could be! I was thinking "have no fear" might be martin luther king? you have nothing to fear but fear itself, his b-day is monday!
There is also a viable possibility of Como again....all those firepits??
oh and that frog pond too!
And Cherokee has bar-b-ques!
he he he!
And well you could just start a fire at any ole park in St.Paul if ya wanted to.....course they'll come and take you away...
i'm not getting the connection between belvedere and superheroes. i'm prolly just too young :)

And that whole not in Harriet Island thing! Could they just be saying that to throw us off???
Belvedere was a comic...geez Ares,I guess I'll never see you in the funny pages either!
Could they just be saying that to throw us off???
can you say law suit, scribe?
HMMMMM,there's a Lewis Park...fear of flying Lewis and Clark...Park.....spark....LARK!
It's us against them Ares! Wake-up! They're all against us!!
Desnoyer! Destroyer???
Baker! Baker's use fire to bake with!!! HMMMmmm?
And what do they mean when they say there's snow and cold and winters finally here?
I bet the medallion is in a park with snow!
Rice! You have to cook rice with a spark.....
that could actually be more of a clue than anything else in there, scribe.
Whatchu mean ares?

They're coming to take me away Ho Ho
To the funny farm Today!
is that supposed to be a jab at us for overnoodling, marley :)
Its mostly just scribe :) but its all of us really
Hey!! Great meeting everyone at the party last night. Got some great pointers, too. Did DUI ever wake up?
Hey rushmore -- are you out there? I'm sticking to my theory of last night.
over noodling is not a bad thing, helps with history most of the time.
Ares, King, I think Scribe's just playing with your heads.
Off to the ice rink.
Later all.
King, I see nothing showing up on your web site???
Off to the ice rink.
oh you are so trained!
Here's my Funny Farm thought for the day.
The clue writer is a gay man. One of the definitions of "spark" is a gay man. (Please, no offense meant)
Artemis
One of the definitions of "spark" is a gay man.
It's in Loring Park?
And you would know this, why? Does Queen KAL know about this? No offense meant of course.
I think there are more people writing than just 1 to dream up these clues.
I think Ares is the clue writer and that's why he never shows his face.
I'm on to ya, Ares. I just have to tail you, to find the puck.
oh you are so trained!
It's the kids that want to go! Scribe has nothing to do with it.
Queen=Artemis Looked in the dictionary,Spark also means a lover, a gay man
I think there are more people writing than just 1 to dream up these clues.
What makes you think that? They've got 50 weeks out of the year to do it.
Even I could write them if they gave me 50 weeks.
:-)
It's the kids that want to go! Scribe has nothing to do with it.
so you've got 4 trainers then!
so you've got 4 trainers then!
Something like that.
Marley King, did you see that I can't see anything on your web site?

Marley, Nevermind.
I got it to work with Internet Explorer but it doesn't with Netscape Navigator.
Anyway, I really gotta go before I loose points.
Later all.

Actually I think writing the clues by committee is what's impossible. It would never get finished on time!
Perhaps, Allison, but heck - would that be any fun writing them alone?
THX-Marley King, did you see that I can't see anything on your web site?
Marley, Nevermind.
I got it to work with Internet Explorer but it doesn't with Netscape Navigator.
I was trying to figure it out but couldn't- glad you got it!
Does anybody know why this would be, and if I can fix it somehow? Or because we have internet explorer is that the only way it can be viewed?

so allison, why's marydale on your list? i'm just curious.
Thanx Annie-thats what I'll do for now.
