2002 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.

I am thinking that last year something was found in a park too. Was it in South/East St. Paul somewhere. Maybe off 61 just north of Newport or over there somwhere.... Like I said earlier I dont know the names of the parks so well............

I think the sneakers were found at Cherokee too. That's where I found the sweater. I'm going back to look for the jeans. What scares me more than not finding the treasure is finding the naked man lurking around.

Might be a good idea to go look for those jeans in the day light Heather... Or at least pack your mace

THERE IS A GIANT CHANDELIER IN THE CATHEDRAL- ANY UNDERWEAR THERE? OR ARES MAY RESIDE THERE.

sorry. ares isn't catholic. won't ever be catholic, and in general avoids all things catholic. other than that, the cathedral is a very beautiful building.

Movie crew in Irvine:

This afternoon I saw a movie crew at Irvine Park...not those saps from NY...3 or 4 other people, told me they were filming a documentary. Only a few diggers were there but we were all interviewed, and they said they would be at Highland tomorrow!!

Hi Ares-no wonder you are keeping your distance from Scribe.

PS-The film crew has new interns filming this year for the same doc.

M2-No, I asked them if they were the same crew, they told me they were locals not involved with the Yonkers folks (and the accent gave them away). Looks like there are rival moviemakers out there!

A friend saw the word trek in todays clue and is convienced that it has something to do with star trek. another hunter is born, but undoubtedly misguided

I would be highly surprised if it was ever at Irvine Park. The residents there are highly organized and are very protective of their space. Party poopers.

WHERE IS JAKE

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 5:23 PM Permalink
Rushmore

PS - I highly doubt they are rival movie-makers and more like copy-cat movie makers, just my opinion.

Last time I saw Jake he was at HF

SO anyway, I just got back from the gas station and i got their last two quarts of 5W-30 engine oil and I got their last edition of todays PP. Needless to say, I got lucky!

Rush-I don't know, I'm not to fond of the idea of New Yorkers telling the MN story of the hunt...maybe the locals will get it right! :)

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 5:26 PM Permalink
leelabell

There is a connection between the NY filmmakers and MN

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 5:26 PM Permalink
Peter Smith

Lee-Yeah, I've heard about the connection, but I don't consider them Minnesotans any more than I consider myself a New Yorker. Just my opinion though :)

nah me2, i keep my distance from the scribe cuz she's got this fascination with rubber chickens and rituals :)

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 5:31 PM Permalink
Rushmore

PS - I see your point, and would have to partially agree. However, it does seem like the NY film crew has DEFINITELY done their homework on this and are trying to present a fair portrayal of the hunt.

I see nothing wrong with a local film crew, I was simply stating that I think it is peculiar that there is now a second group of would-be movie makers. As in, hey - NAHF already came up with the idea!!

Corn...No purchase is necessary to win. Photo copies, handwritten and/or online printouts of the published clues will be accepted.

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 5:33 PM Permalink
leelabell

Crafty: The finder of the Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt medallion must immediately return the medallion to the Pioneer Press, 345 Cedar St., St. Paul, to qualify for the initial cash prize of $2,500 and $1,200 in groceries from Cub (one $100 Cub gift card per month for 12 months).

An additional $2,500 will be awarded if all of the published daily clues are clipped from the Pioneer Press and presented along with the medallion.

The Pioneer Press also will award an additional $5,000 if the finder is a registered 2002 Winter Carnival Button owner and has mailed an official entry form, postmarked by Jan. 20 to the Winter Carnival office.

Crafty - the thought of today is that your above statement pertains to the Cub food gift certificates for after the hunt NOT to the medallion itself, For the extra $2500, it is believed that we need to clip the clues from the paper and the others don't qualify.

Rushmore - You just blew my mind...what if the hokey pokey really IS what it's all about! SHUDDER!

Peter..why were you at Irvine?

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 5:43 PM Permalink
Rushmore

Peter - It is a thought provoking statement, I know when I read it for the first time I just sat and thought about life and the Hokey Pokey. IT really put things into perspective for me.

Crafty

Rushmore - I don't believe that for a contest that they can require you to purchase something. I will have to contact PP to verify this.

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 5:44 PM Permalink
leelabell

You can win without purchasing anything. You find the puck and get $2500. You can't win $10,000 without buying and registering a button and without clipping the clues out of the paper.

Anyway, folks were at Irvine because Trek (the company) is based in Irvine, CA

THG: Irvine's kind of a traditional starting point for me...don't ask me why, probably just because the houses there are so beautiful. Anyway, for some reason that's where I like to break ground each year (been doing it for 9 years now!). Call me a sentimental fool if you will!

Hmmm...Irvine, CA...a stretch. I too am sentimental about Irvine. I lived on Ryan for a year. A jewel of a park. Not a favorite of mine for a 12 clue hunt though.
