Brad B - I wouldn't be surprised if you were right. That's where I was looking yesterday evening, and I WAS ALL ALONE! There is a lot of undug snow over there. And from that point of the park, you can see the domes and the Capital, and the smokestack.

Anyone know if the park-type stuff connected to Baker Rec Center counts as a park? It's run by St. Paul Park & Rec - it's right off Baker & King street, east of Smith street. It's also quite small & inconspicuous.

Ya know what, Brad? You may just be right. It could be that devious. The clue(less) gods may just be toying with us. The King/Baker clues seems too cryptic - but then I've never found the little bugger!

SHERLOCK--- yesterday that also came up and its not considered a park. Soory

I think it's a tennis court right off Cherokee st & King, if I remember correctly. (King - Fame??)

Kenute (and others) - I also rely on the net for my clues, so I know nothing about any possible significance to "sugary," but is anyone else troubled/ confused/ intrigued by the use of "locals" instead of "locales"? I can't think of any good anagrams, and I'm certain I must be trying too hard, but shouldn't we at least be able to rely on the newspaper for proper word usage?

but the tennis courts have been dug out so much in the last couple of days...

Wed, 02/04/1998 - 10:56 AM Permalink

I think personally that locals meens houses. maybe its on the side the houses are on/

Li'l Mo - "locals" refers to people of the area, not "locales" which refers to locations. And actually, the tennis court off King isn't that badly dug up, especially right around it.

maybe i was wrong then soory but <man i must be tierd> can someone please refer the DOMES???

An anagram of locals could be skoal but that would really be a stretch and I don't think that it would fit with the rest of the clue.

Brad B Ithink you are right on the money there. Thanks for the thought.

MY MOTHER THOUGHT for some reason that it was going to be in aw tin box and that would make scence if it was made to look like just a piece of trash?? not noticeable would you really want to open a chew tin???

Charlie -- "demo of the mode" from clue #4 - anagrams, rearranged both spell dome. Just speculation on our part. The Capital is something Greensleevs2 came up with yesterday - the guy at the top (on the spire) is wearing a cape & riding a horse, clothes don't fit the weather.

Charlie, I hate to say it, but the dome thing has been beat to death. It refers to either the catheral or the capitol dome which can be seen from Cherokee.

the tennis courts have not been dug nearly as much as up on the hill. I was at the tennis courts last night... not many people there... lots of fresh snow. Wouldn't that be a B--ch - if it was Baker...King... along Cherokee. It just amazes me that the clues so far point directly to the spot up on the hill, and everyone and their mother in law has been digging up there.

I'll make a bold prediction... it's either between Baker & King along Cherokee...or it will not be found this year. We'll find out tonight.

Hey, Brad - around what time where you there last night? I saw some guy kind of shuffling around in the court. Was that you? It was about 5:30 - 6:30.

Was there a Baker tennis player? I know who King is but Baker? I don't follow tennis at all

Sherlock - I was there at 12:30 - 1:00 am last night. I'm going back out there at about 1:30 this afternoon. See you there.

What do you think the medallion is hidden in?

You know, I think people are barking up the wrong tree when they keep referring to "fame" as if it has any significance. Just about any clue always refers to you getting the treasure and the fortune and fame it encompasses. Doesn't mean fame had anything to do with a major clue. I think the most important part of that clue is where it basically says that it should be near Baker and Prospect. The baker would claim a sugary loaf and the prosect would claim gold - yes, I buy the yellow stone = gold bit!!

Still Looking - what does sugary loaf mean?

Wed, 02/04/1998 - 11:33 AM Permalink
Chris Partyka

There is supposedly a large odd-shaped hill in Winona called the,

"sugar loaf", and "yellow stone" would refer to "Yellowstone National

Park" located in the state of Wyoming. Thus, Winona and Wyoming street.

Yellowstone is in the state of Wyoming, which is also the name of a street that crosses the park.

Back to the Baker/King thing along cherokee. I think the fact that the early clues pointed to the sliding hill (#3), playground (#5), etc. point to where everyone is looking, but they are trying to steer you away from Chippewa (#10), towards something else. Is the Baker/King thing a coincidence - I don't think so - I think it's the classic BAIT (up on the hill) with the early clues, and SWITCH with the obscure late clues. Call me crazy but I'll be near the tennis courts at 1:30 this afternoon ... I need a change of scenery.

I've only been looking for the medallion for the past 6 years, and each time I've almost walked right over the darned thing! Well, if I cant find it this year, I hope someone in the cooler gets it.

Hey Sue B! Looked for you guys at the foundation at 10 last night.... Brought Grillables and everything!...Looked for 2 hours between Winona and Wyoming....Starting to think it might be on the Cherokee Hts side of park since "don't rec attire" might be a steer clear clue....whadda ya think???

At first, I was searching at an area on the sledding hill, that was in view of all of the major clues: the 3 pyramids (shelter) were just sitting above the hill at eye level, the Capitol was easily seen (the dome), as well as being near all the other major landmarks. At first I thought that the, "cape and whip" thing was refering to the statue on top of the Capitol, and the Capitol also has a spire on top of it ("to which you aspire.") But then I came to the idiotic realization that,"cape" and "whip" rearranged spell,"Chippewa". Man am I dumb or what!

We should all email Arnie and get this afternoon declared a state holiday so we can all get off work and look. Stuck here till 4:30 but will be there as soon as possible after that

Does anyone really think it will be found this year? The park is so big, the clues so vague, and the whole place has been absolutely oblitterated! If it's there, I can't imagine where it is.

Asking again.......does anyone have any idea what the medallion might be hidden in? ie. diaper, band aid box, etc. in the past?
