2002 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.

What park can be these places be seen from? (Very poor English, sorry)

Since the rules state it's not on Harriet Island, my thought is the Mississippi has to be in view of the park. Any thoughts on that?

I'm with you TD. That's why I love Hidden Falls, and I hate to say it, but Indian Mounds, too. Possibly Chair-o-key.

the only specific "clock" that's come up is the sundial down on harriet island.

I mentioned that a few posts ago. Does anyone know of another park with a sundial or a big clock? The word "time" has been mentioned twice so far.

If the medallion if what you want to find,

Then you will have to use your mind,

There is no way they would give us the name of the park,

In clue number three,

They want to keep us in the dark,

Do you see,

High refers to a landmark,

Take it from me,

Do not give my words to much clout,

Cause I'm not sure of what I'm talking about.

I'd have to say no to Cherokee because it's mainly wooded. Not much room for digging in the small open area. Mounds - I'm not familiar with Mounds.

There is also a Mississippi ST, and a Mississippi school- both by Arlington-ark

Daddy, where's Mississippi school? Is it near a park?

My dalliance thnks for your analysis of past clues it was great. Arlington/arkwright is my top park so far, I was digging there this am and guess what I found buried in a drift??

mississippi school is just southwest of 35e and wheelock pkwy, md.

afternoon step. find anything interesting whilst out scouting?

Tue, 01/22/2002 - 1:18 PM Permalink
My Dalliance

Daddy, mississippi street does not adjoin any parks, although it is near AA (thereby reinforcing your theory). But, Miss. R. Blvd adjoins HF.

And, you're welcome! But, if the writer is new this year (and I think "it" might be), it may have been for nothing.

Step, what's your thoughts on BC now?

Isn't Mears Park in the middle of downtown St Paul? I don't think they would have all kinds of people running around downtown during business hours, and it has only been there once and that was in 75.

I've read that thought of a "new" writer in many past posts. I don't know why the thought of a new writer is being mentioned. I must have missed something in the 2000 or more posts I skipped. Darn, I knew I should have read them all.

That's my #1 choice until something in the clues completely steers me away.

Clue 3 fits the park a little too good. There were people diggin' (the playground is totally dug up already)...people scoutin', and i saw about 8 cars do drive through's.

I have a question can you print the clues off the pp page rather than clip them from the newspaper? Or do I really need to go find the old news papers since I didn't realize that it started this weekend I thought it was next weekend for some reason.....Help

What do you guys think of "Time and Tide" as a reference to history?

TD-

I am betting it is the same writer. She is know in past years for interjecting a lot (A LOT!!!!) of fluff.

As mentioned before, the clues hold little information, and not to read into them too much.

She gets her kicks off seeing everyone extrapolate off the smallest bit of information.

Or hand write them as well...

PP said because of the sweepstakes rules, a print out will be just the same as actual clipped ones.

This is what the web site rules say:

The finder of the Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt medallion must immediately return the medallion to the Pioneer Press, 345 Cedar St., St. Paul, to qualify for the initial cash prize of $2,500 and $1,200 in groceries from Cub (one $100 Cub gift card per month for 12 months).

An additional $2,500 will be awarded if all of the published daily clues are clipped from the Pioneer Press and presented along with the medallion.

The Pioneer Press also will award an additional $5,000 if the finder is a registered 2002 Winter Carnival Button owner and has mailed an official entry form, postmarked by Jan. 20 to the Winter Carnival office.

Digger...sure.

Clue #3 Time and tide, fun and slide Down the hill, far from the woods Show that carnival hunter's pride And you may trip over the goods

The first line uses "tide" which I think is a reference to water...and "slide". BC has that water park with a big water slide. Time and Tide probably means they can only run it in the summer.

second line - Right behind the water park is a huge hill covered with trees...hence, down the hill, far from the woods (stay on the other side of the waterpark.)

but that's just my humble opinion.

Time to kill

Just a rook here, but my feeling is that with no snow, they will keep it vague till the end, or a it's a very large park that can handle the masses. They won't give away the park too early.
