2002 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.

Diggin' Queen

I think the in and on the air is definatly talking about TV/Radio stations and/or towers

Was last year the 50th hunt since there were 2 hunts one year, or was it the 50th anniversary of the whole hunt, or is that this year?

I dig in highland every year. This year I'm not digging there unless I'm SURE that's where it is. :) Besides, I drove it tonight and nothing really grabbed me. Right now I'm leaning Mounds, and Langford, but BC isn't totally out yet.

every word doesnt need to fit the park, when you look back, so many words that are picked apart mean nothing in the end

No but seriously, I am headed to Highland and I am predicting it will be found before the next clue and will be found somewhere on the disc golf course of Highland by yours truly.......G'Nite everybody. You've been great, I'll be here all week, be sure to tip your waitresses. :)

Snowballs - 11:57pm Jan 22, 2002 CST (#13679 of 13770)

Langford- find Como and 280- go towards St. Paul. When you get a mile or so down Como, there is a turn to the left, and a church on the right side. Turn off como to the right, next to the church and you'll be on a street that goes down a hill and at the bottom is St. Anthony Park elementary, and Langford. I think. It's been a couple years since I've been there.

Thanks to Snowballs

Well, nothing I can think of near Mounds, Langford (Muffeletta in the Park is 1/2 mi away I guess), BC. There is stuff around Como but nothing I specific comes to mind.... no restaurants. Maybe after some sleep I'll remember something...

I'm back. So what are the reasons for thinking it's at Langford or highwood hills?

Wed, 01/23/2002 - 12:34 AM Permalink
Usual Suspect

Here just for a fresh look.........

Clue #1

  • There's snow, it's cold, winter's finally here
  • Let the medallion search in you light a spark
  • Far and wide take your hunt, have no fear
  • You can find it in a St. Paul park
    • Clue #2
    • You may knit your brows on this one
    • Or just trek up and down every hill
    • Work your brain, your legs, it will be fun
    • If you have some time to kill
    • Clue #3
    • Time and tide, fun and slide
    • Down the hill, far from the woods
    • Show that carnival hunter's pride
    • And you may trip over the goods
    • Clue #4
    • "Hey, hey," you say, "We're game to play
    • But give us a tip -- be fair!"
    • OK, OK, here's all we'll say
    • Look for something in and on the air

One has to wonder if the "hunters pride" may very well be a triubute to "patriotism" the WC theme this year. Thus in reference to "in air or on air" could very well be interpeted as the ---bomb--- at Como Park. I am certain that a radio/tv tower can be seen from there. Food for thought---

    Wed, 01/23/2002 - 12:38 AM Permalink
    Snowballs

Or third place in a race. As in cross country skiing race, like the one at BC. Hey... is that thing actually a race, or is it just a bunch of skiiers showing up for fun?

    Wed, 01/23/2002 - 12:39 AM Permalink
    Diggin' Queen

Everything points to hp, except this clue. unless it just means the airplanes from msp. but, the towers make more sense.

I have been looking for this thing for over 30 years and my time is coming to an end soon. I just have to find it one of these times. And if I do find it I promise you all I will donate it to the cooler crew for whatever they wish to do with it. Anybody ever been to Montego Bay?

    Wed, 01/23/2002 - 12:40 AM Permalink
    Diggin' Queen

ok, lets apply the clues to como. it would really mess with peoples minds if they put it there again.

there is a statue of torpedo by como

yes, the flight paths go right over there depending on which way the wind is coming from. Plus it is the closest park to the international airport.

Looking up the Valley Rec Ctr, pg 72 Hunters Guide shows that it is located near Capitol/Mount Airy Homes area, and is near Holmman Air Field, and there is a Mount Airy Boys & Girls Club

Also the 'use your brain' you refer to something as simple as University Avenue also. Just a pondering...
