2002 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt

Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.

The Rude Boy

Hmm. I can see im being ignored. You people dont take kindly to newcomers i see. Ok, I will just leave then. I thought this place would be helpful, and maybe i could lend some help where needed. I see I was wrong.

I was just reading past year's clues and they are so good! This is one from Conway...look at how easy it is to understand!! Plain and simple...it's not by a sledding hill...I can't make out 1 of this year's yet!!!

Flying downhill can be quite a thrill

And a popular outdoor attraction,

But your chances of winning are nil

If you get too close to the action.

It's called "Hey Hey, My My(Into the Black)"

Hey hey, my my Rock and roll can never die There's more to the picture Than meets the eye.

Out of the blue and into the black You pay for this, but they give you that Once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue And into the black

The king is gone but he's not forgotten Is this the story of Johnny Rotten? It's better to burn out 'cause rust never sleeps The king is gone but he's not forgotten

Hey hey, my my Rock and roll can never die There's more to the picture Than meets the eye.

Has anyone thought of possibly the clues pointing to a new park in the city? The neighborhood I live in St Paul is the Highwood Hills neighborhood (very SE corner of city). "Down the hill, far from the woods" may be pointing to exactly that (high wooded hills). Also, a new city park was opened at the corner of Burlington and Springside Aves, added onto Taylor Park. It was largely sponsered by the Cargill and its subsidiary North Star Steel, for which a sign at the park states. " In and on the air" could be mentioning the North Star.

Okay guys I am thinking parks and have another valid reasoning for Battle Creek maybe but it may take some more research and I want to see what you can help me com up with anyway. Battle Creek elementry school (Work your Brain) is near a street named Longfellow. anyone know anything about Longfellow I did a real fast search on him and found a bunch of his poems. One I think if my memory serves me was called "snow Cross" what do ya think????

Rude boy, I know nothing of the murder so I didn't respond. There's tons of people posting here and even more lurkers and sometimes you'll be ignored.

It's nothing personal, it's just a fact.

cougar could be, a star is a new idea

I like the straight foward idea of radio or tv

but I do think far and away could mean a new park

The park is along the riverbanks overlooking Pig's Eye Lake, Hwy 61, and Holman Field

why did he/she get kicked out?

Cougar...could be! I really have no idea what any clue means yet. We are getting some good ideas, but they are all way too stretched...in my opinion. I mean they aren't going to use 2 words from a Neil Young song and expect people to tie that in somehow...I dunno, I'm stickin' with battle creek for now. I'm lost. I'm confused, I'm frustrated.

J, I read that too, and it was from a regular. Plus, there's that big int'l x-country ski meet there this weekend -- wouldn't want a lot of crazy diggers. Not at BC.

Does anyone think that the "on the air" statement could mean Lake McCarron (air on), they did that about 14 yrs ago there.

bridge also near cherokee...high bridge

Werentany,

The Longfellow poem I found with "Time and Tide" is titled "THE BUILDING OF THE SHIP"

Also: Time and tide wait for no man, but time always stands still for a woman of 30. - Robert Frost

Here are my thoughts..."In and on the air" - possible a reference to radio waves? Is there a park near a radio or television station or relay tower? I think that is WAY TOO obvious not to be a key clue.

Wed, 01/23/2002 - 12:18 PM Permalink

The building of the ship....time and tide.....crosby, hidden falls....boat launch

What do you mean from a regular?

I was thinking bridge earlier. In the three billy goats gruff(don't laugh), the goat's hooves went "Trip, trap, trip, trap" on the bridge and the troll says "Who's that tripping over my bridge?" If the medallion was under a bridge, and you crossed it, wouldn't you be tripping over the goods ?

for what its worth my take so far less likely meas a possible 2nd meaning in the clue. clue #1 in St. Paul Park; less likely -far & wide means in a new park or on the edge of town

#2 It is a knitted hat or headband; less likely -A time to kill book by Grishm takes place in mississippi; brow of hill top of hill

#3 It is in a high part of park, or a park that is high, & has a hillwith sledding, could also have woods or maybe no woods DT;

#4 Yopu can see a TV or radio antena or a bilboard with a tv radio personality on it; less likely reference to fair fairview, fairgroundsetc.
