Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.
okay waht about hawthorne wasnt that a poet too that runs into Como though. I hate that thought. But Robert frost made me think of.....Welll that made me think of lunch and I dont know why
I think these 4 clues give nothing to pinpoint a specific place. i think they...the clue makers....whoever the @#$% they are....are going to make it very difficult
So is it just me, or does anyone else notice the writing style is dramatically different than in past years? I am really having a hard time with these. They seem to refer much more to 'pop culture' than they do to St. Paul history/quirkiness as they have in the past. Leads me to believe that we have a "gen-x-er" writing these now. Grrrr.
I love this! we are so funny. I do like the teamwork here. Maybe I will go ask my students what they think of the clues....maybe they can figure them out. 5th graders......maybe that is the secret!
I mean, I'm all for change and everything, but with a new person writing...we may not be able to count on some of our "old ways" in solving the clues. This person has a fresh way of looking at things and as such, will probably point us in a direction that we wouldn't normally expect. (i.e. - has the medallion ever been in the same park 2 years in a row?)
Did anyone mention that there is a Frost Ave. out by Phealen? I still think it's to early to be pinpointed, but if it is it would need to be a big park so maybe....
I looked at Frost Ave, thats in Maplewood but what about Frost lake School they have a fairly large park there too its not on Frost however is it in St.paul?
If the writer was going to pinpoint a street I like the Frost poem aspect...it is getable but not obvious like spark=burns. In 1993 the clue that got Itasca St. was "start of something big" as Lake Itasca is the start of the Mississippi River...Time and Tide=Frost would be much easier, but not completely obvious...could be...the other pieces fit I think for Phalen...woods, lot's of towers can be seen, there is a Hill listed in Zone 4 in the guide....could be....
Hey, again. Super busy at work and can't chat much today. Was on earlier and said that the first thought that came to my mind was Newell. Why, you ask. This is my take on Clue #4 (don't mean I think it's at Newell, but the surroundings at Newell made me think of these items):
"We're game to play" - Stadium or player's names (Street Names) "be fair" - fairground "Look for something in and on the air" - billboard which is "in" the air with a radio station on the billboard which is "on" the air.
Someone had mentioned earlier that Crosby had baseball players names close by the park. I don't have my guide at work so, unfortunately, I can't check it out. I read it's located on the far west side of St. Paul. Any thoughts on that?
I had made a mention earlier of the football Quarterbacks as Street names near Crosby. But I have had so many rediculous ideas HaHa jsut hashing em out with all ya all.
Just came back from highland frisbee course....7-8 cars and 10-12 peeps...I parked on antonio...seems to be less snow cover but 1-2 inches only...looked under all of the pines but didn't rake the thick layer of needles
I was just going off the St. Paul Park web site listing of their parks. Thanks for reminding me though of the others. It only makes this even harder to figure out.
nice....very nice......I like that
Highwood Hills off what streets again?
Jim, REgular = someone who is in here several times a day and has been since before the first clue was posted.
okay waht about hawthorne wasnt that a poet too that runs into Como though. I hate that thought. But Robert frost made me think of.....Welll that made me think of lunch and I dont know why
I'm back...any new flashes of brilliance...who is out today and where...is anybody @ Highland
Good noodlin, Daddy, as per usual. Thorough, but not grasp-y, and not too much read in the early clues.
I think these 4 clues give nothing to pinpoint a specific place. i think they...the clue makers....whoever the @#$% they are....are going to make it very difficult
R we too usy thinking or did my question fall upon deaf ears (blind eyes)
I thought I seen a spotter at highland on Monday and when I drove by again I seen the same car in the same spot today. Perhaps a spotter?

I don't know about the spotter bit....could be a hunter
Teamwork...
so true St. Paul ONE! So true!
Yep new writer, seams younger Laura Billings perhaps.??
Slog, Carl, slog. :)
I love this! we are so funny. I do like the teamwork here. Maybe I will go ask my students what they think of the clues....maybe they can figure them out. 5th graders......maybe that is the secret!
Maire, the person sits in there car...

could be a spotter.....at highland.....hmmmmm
I am out of here....have a good day all!!!! Good luck!
I'm off to Highland for a spell...do we know if anyone else (crew) is out there at this time???
phillip was it the white car on Highland parkway?
Did anyone mention that there is a Frost Ave. out by Phealen? I still think it's to early to be pinpointed, but if it is it would need to be a big park so maybe....
St. Paul, no, never.
There is a Frost Lake Rec Area, too.
I looked at Frost Ave, thats in Maplewood but what about Frost lake School they have a fairly large park there too its not on Frost however is it in St.paul?
Dude - Did someone make some kind of "Longfellow" comment earlier???? About time and tide or something?
OH yes it is who wants to meet me there I will be the guy with the ugly car and big boots. FROST LAKE

Frost Ave. is in Maplewood but it is near Phalen which is in St. Paul...
Step,
Here's the Longfellow quote:
"Happy, thrice happy, every one Who sees his labor well begun, And not perplexed and multiplied, By idly waiting for time and tide!"

1/2 of phalen is in st paul & 1/2 in maplewood-larpenteur is the cut off

Thanks Dall - the reason I ask is because in 1993, they figured Longfellow into clue #3 as well...the puck was at Hidden Falls...
I had made a mention earlier of the football Quarterbacks as Street names near Crosby. But I have had so many rediculous ideas HaHa jsut hashing em out with all ya all.
True...but that would qualify it for a park in St. Paul :)
I'm wondering if Frost Ave is the dividing line between Phalen(St. Paul) and Keller(Maplewood) parks. Any ideas?
No a red car located on Antonio Dr.
You are right frost does divide the two parks
These are the parks listed for the city of St. Paul:
Cherokee, Como, Crosby, Harriet Island, Hidden Falls, Highland, Indian Mounds, Marydale, Newell and Phalen
We know that Harriet Island is out because of the rules. So that leaves:
Cherokee, Como, Crosby, Hidden Falls, Highland, Marydale, Newell, Phalen

Dad, are you there?
JIM I NEED YOU TO LOOK ON THE MAP FOR ME
Just came back from highland frisbee course....7-8 cars and 10-12 peeps...I parked on antonio...seems to be less snow cover but 1-2 inches only...looked under all of the pines but didn't rake the thick layer of needles
Digger - those are just the big picnic parks...you still have to consider the smaller parks like Conway, Merriam, Swede Hollow...etc.
maybe it is at a small park
I was just going off the St. Paul Park web site listing of their parks. Thanks for reminding me though of the others. It only makes this even harder to figure out.
What do ya need Ann? Ann Is my mom her and I have been doing this since I was old enuff to carry a rake it wasnt a very big rake
