The Pioneer Press medallion has been found. Details are at our Winter Carnival page.
The hunt's over, but the discussion rages on ...

Greg: Yes, year - THAT IS SO IMPORTANT!!! And, since we're grass-roots rite now and have no backing from PP (tho I hope that will change in the coming year) go with the B&W to keep costs down.
Do you have a idea of cost? Don't want to soak The Crew for too much.
A thought I had... These buttons of yours, particularly if we can get the sponsorship of the PP for 1999, will be worth a FORTUNE in the coming years!!!!
Greg Sax: You can order the St. Paul Parks - A Treasure Hunter's Guide from Hunter's Press, 2141 Palace Ave., St. Paul, MN 55105. Need to reserve a copy now because they have only a limited number produced.
I work at a bar and grill in White Bear and today the people that found the medallion came in. They are very nice people and were happy to tell me all about it. They even showed me the sock it was in.
We need coffee makers for Sunday!!! I can bring mine... a 12'er!!! Need at LEAST two more!!!! ANYBODY!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't worry about it, Terry!!! You tried and you're hearts in the rite place. At least you thought to bring cups, somehting I didn't!!!
Casey contacted you about the logoed-wear????? Really???? NEAT!! Can you send him my way... I've contacted two companies today... wrote one off... The other is interested, even if we ARE poor!!!
Terry, if the doc you need to send isn't the format you want, send it to me and have the recipient let me know a format that works for them, and a destination email address. Yeah, Mac OS8. Am I still invited to the party? Crab legs and ....um...lobster?
I've got a 12 cupper to bring to along with prolly 10-15 mugs. So someone else will need to contiriute in the cup dept, too, either "real" or plastic. I don't know what else is needed, I'd be happy to bring something else... Maybe some type of treat/dessert thing?
E&H Mom: Sorry about the confusion. Anyway. Your coffee maker and mine, and prolly Cheryl's (CHERYL!!! YOU HERE YET???) and coffee cups should do the trick. We're not gonna start sweating the small stuff now.
Hi gang. Checking back in. Can hardly believe the bash on Sunday's getting to be so big. It's gonna be AWESOME! I just thought of something else - I'll pick up some paper plates. That's a lot easier than everyone lugging real plates etc. from home. Maybe someone could pick up some plastic utensils. Granted, it's not as enviro friendly, but....
And Green, I hadn't really thought about the 11:30 thing either - bizzare. Must be fate. :-)
Greg: Did you get my input... for what it's worth??? LOL!!! Yust one opinion, mind you.
Terry: Gotten anything from me yet?
E&H's Mom: If you can bring fake cups, that would be great. A dessert would be asking too much. Talked Hubs into this??? LOL!!! Can't wait to met you!!!
Yes, Hubby and kids will be coming on Sunday. It's so cute - I can hear him putting the 3 yr old to bed (emmy) she's reading him the story (no she can't really read, but she has one heckuva memory - word for word)! I'll be happy to supply fake cups and silverware.
Thanx for the book info desire-to-win but I know about that one already. What I was talking about was the book by Kirk D. and Lori that has the clues from '52 to '87 printed in it.
Speaking of books...if you just can't get enough of the medallion hunt now that it's over, go to your local library and do a search for "The Treasure Hunt" by Roger Barr. The hunt is a backdrop for what is actually a pretty serious story about several groups of hunters that are all battling some serious life issues. Roger makes plenty of references to St. Paul, enough so that you'll definitely know of some places he's talking about (Gabe's wasn't so evident to me though). It's not really a book to read to the kids at bedtime, but it's well conceived and worth a read -- especially for those STILL hanging around here.
Also, if you're feeling frisky for another search in the snow, the Bock Beer Festival on the grounds of the Schell Brewery in New Ulm is coming up. I went in '96 and had a great time. Unfortunately, I missed the search for the wooden "bocks" that they plant around their land but I had plenty of Schells and enjoyed myself immensely. If anyone's interested, post a message and I'll give more info.
Got your e-mail, but not understanding it. I'll copy the purrson at the address you sent when The Bash is over with all the stuff off here about logoed-wear... plus my ideas for this coming year.
I'm thinking to start small - like a white knit cap - so that the PP doesn't have to dish out a bunch of bucks for a bunch of different items. Plus, we can hang all our buttons - WC, and "YOU DIG?" - on it.
Then as the year(s) go by, maybe adding/changing what is offered for sale each year. Of course, all must be offered here to THE WAY COOLER HEADS first before going on sale go gen pub.
But, anyway, I'll be approaching Casey to find out whom to contact... but... AFTER THE BASH. Gotta get that taken care of first.
Folks, we're ALL in on the birth of a tradition... Hope you're aware of that. Hey!!! Some silly had to have a wild hair to get the Vulcans going!!! Soon people will be talking about the "PPMCC" and how they dig with their mouses and minds, in addition to shovels!!!
Sax, just did the Summit brew tour last weekend. Yeah, it cut into our hunt time, but...Anyway, we had such a good time that we decided to tour somewhat local breweries on a regular basis. The next stop? Linnies in Ws. Any takers? The rules are if you partake in the bev, you get a room for the night. Somewhat like our canoe trips during the summer. I have this feeling that I just started 10th grade and have a new set of friends! Joe's not invited though.
Beeyob!!! LOL!!! Done Schells, waiting to do Lienne's!! This will have to fall in somewhere with the Saints game... Which reminds me... We need logoed-wear ("PPMCC") prior to that so that we can all wear it to the game. Yea. Thinking about getting a group (of us Headers) to go. NOT MY ORIGIANL IDEA. But way past the posting of who's it was. I'm sure they'll speak up. They better. NOT MY IDEA. May have been New Daddy's.
Terry: Why does it have to be Word 7.0? Is formatting important? What e-mailer are you using? Attachments are fairly easy from the Netscape mailer. I could walk you through anything similar to that. If 7.0 is difficult for other reasons, do a "Save As" and make it one of 3 things: a Word 6.0 (.doc), a rich-text (.rtf) or a straight ASCII text (.txt). Use the .txt only if formatting is not important. Hope this helps.
Ok, so we got....brewery tours, Saints games, canoe trips, logo-ed casual wear, logo-ed buttons, a cooler color. Could you guys (*very*deap breath) imagine if we found the damn thing?? Oh My God! Where would it end? The New Ford Medallion Edition F150 Pick Up? Cooler Club Medallion Breakfast Cereal(w/real medallion clues in every box)? The possibilities are endless..... if only...... next year!
It's good to see some of you still hanging around... Not that I like to wish my life away, but does anyone else wish it was about January 25th, 1999? When I seen the exact description of the medallion location last night, I almost cried. When the Yellowstone clue came out, I got to Wyoming and Cherokee after about 1000 others were there. I decided that just to dig aimlessly in the snow was not something I felt like doing that night, as I had done it every other for the last 5. So I walked around with my industrial garden tool collection looking for something that served more as a marker than anything else. I had my mag-light and my clue printouts and I found a spot that as it turned out was no more than 5-10 feet of the burial place. I unfortunately didn't give the digging my all and soon decided to search elsewhere. Had I put in a half hour more of digging I may have been the lucky one.
The moral of the story and of my life, personally: NEVER quit and NEVER second guess yourself... I hope to see you all Sunday, I will try my best to get out there.
BeeyoB: What do you mean "get a room for the night"? Been to Leinie's but not on the tour. I have cousins in Chippewa so you may get a taker here. It'd give me a reason to visit. The best tour I've EVER been on is right here in Milwaukee (imagine that). It's called the Lakefront Brewery and you will never forget it, it's that good. Check their web for more info: www.lakefront-brewery.com. Also, has Summit moved to their new digs yet or are they still on University?
emmy & hannah's mom: Love the "You dig?" logo. Will try to emulate it for the "official." Will also get more on the Bock Fest in just a second...
Terry, you can talk to Greg and tell him it's me. He's cool. It's otay and I give you my purrmission to tell him it's me. Also,he's already got my work address!!! :)
Summit is still on University to the best of my knowlede. Inside tip, the Medallion will be hidden on a moving bus next year. The clue one day, may be invalid the next. (laugh) Just joking.
Sax, Beeyo sipping a pale ale. Summit has not moved yet, but the new digs are very impressive. Esp impressive considering everyone said they wouldn't make it! Cheers to the entrep's out there- kind of like us diggers, huh? "Get a Room" means that if you do a beer tour 150 miles away from home, it's: #1) Not a good idea to drive home, and #2) A good choice to continue the beer talk, and beer consumption. Keep in touch.
Boy, it IS 1-22(not 25 just yet...)-99... Where you been???
We're gonin' on!!! Makin' plans, getting everything in order...
By the time Jan gets her next year, we're gonna be 1/2 to the Med!!!
We're working on a chat room, Med/Hunt Web page, Pre-Hunt Bash (First Annual, I mite add!), logoed-wear... A Saint's game, brewry tours, etc. Read up, son!!! Read up!!!
We been movin' and shakin' this past day. No grass, or moss is gonna grow under these Coolers!!!!
We're still pitchin' snow. Med gone this year or snot!!! We're movin' on!!!!
Terry Valentine: I can't check my e-mail because the one I first registered that whole year ago is my work address (I suppose I should get around to changing it. Gulp.). Try the home line at saxx@execpc.com.
Terry, I PROMISE I'LL GET OF LINE NOW!! Ahh, one minute, I need to hit the recent button once more, yeah I got a problem. But after that, I'LL GET OFF LINE....once more?
Thats good Ian... It will help greatly if you can keep us informed throughout the course of this year, leading up to next years burial date. I hope MCTO is ready for the crew. Hacking a shovel through the floor of a bus will be easy compared to digging in that crap that was at Cherokee towards the end.
Another cooler idea for product would be a cooler calendar with some kind of cool "clues" on each month meaning something about that month and of course special medallion dates and historical medallion dates and info. The pictures would be really cool.
Ah, boyo, would be nice, wouldn't it? However, I think not. It, The Hunt, is over. I think their mind is on better things. Like... ah, well... on... Well. I'm sure they're not interested in bunch of goofs out having a picnic in the snow. But, you never know!! Great idea!!! And wouldn't it be nice if the PPMCC was recognized???? Kind'a make everybody happy and all. I like your thinking - I even had the same idea. But, well, like... What's to see/report on a bunch of maniac diggers celebrating the past hunt and the anticipation of next years??? We didn't win, did we? So, we'll have a great time getting to know each other and reliving The Hunt as we all experienced it. No big deal... but to us guys. But that's all that counts, rite?
BUT THERE'S NEXT YEAR!!! This year, we'll just celebrate us all getting together, getting to know each other... and lay our traps for The Clue(less) One next year!!! LOL!!! He's NOT going to beat all us guys two years in a row!!! HAIL COOLER HAND LUKE!!! COOLER HEADS WILL PREVAIL!!!
Nice chatting with you, hopefully talk to you Sunday if not sooner... BTW that picture that always accompanies my posts is Captain William D. Bowell of the Padelford Packet Boat Co. on Harriet Island. He is at the helm of the Padelford. Im not a fan of the guy himself, other than his ludicrous and idiotic antics, combined with a general nasty demeanor, and hate for his neighbors at the No Wake Cafe, make him a very funny person to observe. And oh man, the stories are great! Maybe thats more than you wanted to know, but I just wanted to let you know that that isnt me. Later all.
Cheryl... You ever going to get on here??? I've got two camping water lugging things I'll bring that we can fill at your house. I'll stop there on my way to the park...
Ah... If you didn't slog, we, ah... kind'a in a BIG way need your coffee maker. I'm bringing mine. Can we use yours, also?????
Sleeves, Terry should have the info for you. Terry, luck, I have faith in you, and nice chatting. Shovel, I knew the Capt on the Padel. He did the honor of my wedding reception. I have a *really* nice photo of him and his first mates' rearends compliments of various Kodak disposables at the recep. Don't think I should post those, but who knows, a couple more pales and I just might fire up the scanner.
Greg: Yes, year - THAT IS SO IMPORTANT!!! And, since we're grass-roots rite now and have no backing from PP (tho I hope that will change in the coming year) go with the B&W to keep costs down.

Greenslvs2 - it's emmy and hannah's mom that thought about the cups and is looking for other coffee urns.
I hope someone can tell me how to e-mail an attachment from Word 7.0 to you for Sunday's bash. The Ice Breaker!
Terry, my mail didn't get to you. Will try again.
I've got a 12 cupper to bring to along with prolly 10-15 mugs. So someone else will need to contiriute in the cup dept, too, either "real" or plastic. I don't know what else is needed, I'd be happy to bring something else... Maybe some type of treat/dessert thing?
Greenslvs2 - checked the preferencesfor my mail. Somehow the .net got changed to .com. Should be ok now. Thanks
Going nutz trying to answer everyone.
(deep breath)
Terry: resent my mail about the Ice Breaker.
E&H Mom: Sorry about the confusion. Anyway. Your coffee maker and mine, and prolly Cheryl's (CHERYL!!! YOU HERE YET???) and coffee cups should do the trick. We're not gonna start sweating the small stuff now.
Now, Ian... What was it you wanted??????

The gods work in mysterious ways!!!
Don't you think you're bringing too much???? Let someone else haul plates, or everybody can bring their own!!!
GWP: You're welcome. Just make sure that human of your behaves. Humans can be *so* tedious and rowdy.
Greenslvs2 - forwarded the message from Casey to you. Still nothing here from you.
Yes, Hubby and kids will be coming on Sunday. It's so cute - I can hear him putting the 3 yr old to bed (emmy) she's reading him the story (no she can't really read, but she has one heckuva memory - word for word)! I'll be happy to supply fake cups and silverware.

Just chips and nametags. That's not so much. Paper plates are only about a buck. no prob.
Guess I'll go do my taxes - fun fun fun. I'll check back in later.
Green, you're amazing. You've already called companies about PPMCC wear?? WOW!
Greg, The Bock Beer fest sounds like a blast, please DO give any more info you have!
Crap and double crap.
