Terry, don't tell me that what I told you worked? Go figure. That's it...I'm staying home, quitting my job, and making a living doing IR/MIS consults for the WC crowd. By the way Terry, that'll be $75.00, I've already billed your credit card. ;-)))))) Cheers, and I'm in pursuit of my third Summit! Nothing else to do now that.... Is Joe M showing for the Party? Is anyone else concerned about a drive-by from this demented individual? I'm calling reinforcements from the Eside just in case.
Terry, you *must* show on Sunday. I feel as though your the only person I've helped during this cooler session-most of my posts did not contain any relevent info, just mere babblings from a lurker/hunter. Although I did say it would be found come daylight yesterday, didn't I? That was tough, considering it is most ALWAYS found in daylight on the last couple days. Now I'm ripping on myself! Go figure! Just can't/won't let go of this thing.
Wish I could be there Sunday. My daughter is in a fashion show at THE Mall so I need to be there. Depending on timing, etc. thought we could run by quick, meet and move on. Maybe check in later - again depends on timing.
Hey, Terry, you still on... If you are, check your e-mail. I wrote you a novella.
This is my favorite time on the Cooler. Usually I have to wait until about 2 a.m. to get it to myself, but now that the lines are nonexistant at the Press building, now that Cherokee only holds a few snoring squirrels and perhaps a lone forlorn digger that has yet to read a paper, and now that the Cooler junkies are catching the ZZZs they so desperately deserve, I have the floor for a soliloquy...
Fancy that... I lost BeeyoB and Terry at just about the same time as I started posting again. S'okay. I know you die-hards will do your slogging tomorrow and see these posts in the a.m.
Can you blame me for hanging around like a shade? I'm far, far away from the hometown. Most of my St. Paul friends aren't computer-literate so I'm unable to do this with them. You folks are definitely fulfilling a need of mine.
And thanx to Casey and the Press, too, for keeping the line open for so long after it's necessary.
For those who were interested: The Bock Beer Festival in New Ulm is on Saturday, February 21st. I'm not sure if this number still works, but hopefully it hasn't changed since '96...call (507) 354-5528. It isn't the medallion hunt, but it is a good time and a nice cooldown from the big hunt. If the phone number doesn't work, I know you need to get there early. 10 a.m. may be too late. I'll try the number in the morning and if I don't get a response, I'll find the real number. Tomorrow, y'all...
Night Sax, yeah I'm back. My wife was just looking over my shoulder saying "Do I get to go with?". My wife and I are a package deal....She has not been present for alot of the cooler talk, I'm trying to make her comfortable with the Sunday thing. So...Is she invited also? Show her what we're all about! Thanks, her name is Bobbi Jo. Cute, huh? You guys gotta meet her.
It was a really strange scene at Cherokee Park at 6:00 pm. About four hours earlier, the blue puck had been found. I'm sure that as the news spread, the park cleared out rather fast. When I arrived, to get a look at the "magic" spot,I was hit with the ultimate in contrasts. For the previous five days, I had accepted the cars, the crowd, the noise...THIS shocked me. A couple cars on Chippewa Ave. and about 8 people at "the spot". Vacant, quiet, eerie...Piles of frozen, chopped, ice/snow/grass/dirt/branches/etc...The only thing I can compare it to is the movie "Woodstock"...at the end when you see the empty, trashed field that a day before had been a vibrant, lively scene...Kinda sad, but the Park will recover and on Sunday February 8th a new tradition will begin...I'll be with you in spirit...PEACE..
What does everyone think of Pioneer Press Medallion Cooler Crewe? (Instead of Crew) - just a thought. Hoping to make it to Sunday's bash, but might have to work. Can't wait to buy a button and some Coolerwear.
Of course your wife can come!!! And she can give us *her* perspective of what it's like to loose a spouse for a week to a message board and Med hunting!!! Looking forward to meeting both of you.
Here's the scoop: Got my mail, and it's real pretty. Can't read it, but it makes a nice design. Will forward to work. If I can't get it to go there, will see if Ter is on today and ask her to fax it to me - of you are, you can... OR SOMEBODY CAN!!!
Somebody missed where I said that I *don't* have 7.0 [Word/Windows] but at work. (sigh) No wonder we couldn't find the Med!!! LOL!!!
Eagle: Hope to see you Sunday.
Will bop in and out at work. I've a slew of work to do and will be there til the cows come home; will prolly also have to work Sat. and Sun. Got be prepared for Monday. Man, reality sucks.
Catch you all later!!!! HAIL COOLER HAND LUKE!!!
Greg: How in gods name are you going to a) have the buttons ready for Sunday, b) have them there???????????
greenslvs 2- Sent the ice breaker to BeeyoB. He said he changed the format a few times and sent on to you. Should have gotten that at home.
Also sent to Greg Saxx at work so he could forward to you at work.
If none of this worked, e-mail me, I will be leaving for work soon but could get back in the office this evening to fax if necessary. Maybe that would have been easier to begin with, but thanks to BeeyoB and Greg, I learned something new.
Better yet, I'll e-mail Greg Saxx at work with my work number. Call there if you can't get it and leave the fax number. I'll check my voice mail throughout the day and fax if necessary. Am doing a training most of the day so won't be at my desk - leave a message.
Your proposed autonomy in the Cooler next year will never work and, come that time, I will make it my sole objective to rain on that parade. Pishposh poppycock rubbish to you. Don't eat the yellow snow at the Cherokee Potluck.
Hey there ATBFontana - how are ya? Are you named after D.C. Fontana - frequent writer for and supposed co-creator of the original Star Trek?
Or are you an anagram for BATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms)? The Michigan Militia referred to BATF as BATFAG (apparently FA for firearms but I haven't figured out what the G is for).
Are you a FAG pal? Do you bugger young boys? Did you ever get greased in prison? Tell me your sad tale and you may get some sympathy...
That's some pretty homophobic and inappropriate talk observer; making your lack of tact and intelligence blatant. Rest assured I'm happily heterosexual though. Sound's like you'll need some soul searching however.
I believe Observer may be a pseudonym for one of the fine upright Cooler Crew. Such Talk! If they only new your true identity "Observer" you would certainly be banished from the nerd round table.
Fontana: Usually I don't get into this with the people who post just to cut us down, but things have slowed down and I truly am curious about something. Maybe you'd be willing to answer these:
Why do you log into this Cooler?
Why don't you like the people hanging in it?
If your reason is because we're pathetic loser nerds, then why waste time on us?
I'm not passing judgement on you. I just really want to know. Take it easy.
OK, The Deity of Wit and Cynicism is finished enjoy your party. I'm off to Carribean for two weeks anyway. I will return NEXT YEAR. I am an avid medallion hunter. My previous insightful clue log ons were completely dissed by one of your regulars. That's why I have turned to the Dark Side.
Does the medallion hunting team at the Pioneer Press have a list of all possible parks the medallion could be in? That would be a big help in the future. I always wonder if some of those rec centers are fair game or not. I'd love to get a list. Also, where are the 1990 clues on the 'last 10 years of hunts'?
John! Hi!! The First Annual PPMCC Re-Hash Bash is at CP, beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Would love to have as many PP folks come as would like to... I think there should be plenty of food. Try and talk Casey into coming... I really wish he'd come...
Does a person have to be a constant poster to the Cooler before they're allowed to show up at the bash on Sunday? I've been lurking, but have only posted a couple of times...
HEY, ALL: I'm really working on those buttons for Sunday. I had everything all nice and set up and then the floor dropped out on me today. The design is ready but I no longer have a place to make them. There's a Kinko's here in Milwaukee that makes them with a 24-hour turnaround so I just assumed I could find one in the Twin Cities that had the same deal, but no dice. Not one Kinko's in the Cities makes buttons. So if any of you want to do me a BIG favor and save me some long-distance money, try this:
Grab a yellow pages and look up "Buttons - Advertising."
Find a place that looks like it specializes in small orders and is computer-friendly.
And (here's the kicker), one that can finish a 40-50 button order by tomorrow for under $100.
The sooner the better...please post results if you get a bite. Give a phone number and I'll take care of the rest.
As for me, I didn't dig anywhere near the "find site." I know I stepped over it, but I was convinced that it was somewhere down the hill, between Annapolis and Wyoming. Lot's of references, I thought, to the ball park, so I didn't dig much on the hill.
I have also been hanging on the fringe here with just 2 previous messages, but I agree with Goldfish Gal--would love to hear more about folks' hunt experiences and stories--this year or past. Along with 500 other people, we were at Chippewa and Wyoming on Tues nite/Wed. a.m. We did move a bit further into the park before we left, but I don't think we ever got super close. (@ least I HOPE not!)
Nonetheless, what a fun hunt, and what great weather! Best weather since 93 @ Hidden Falls. I'm still trying to explain the allure of this hunt to some non-St. Paul (and non-Minnesota) folks but they just don't get it. I'll always be addicted. As the old saying goes, "You can take the boy out of the East Side, but you can't take the East Side out of the boy!" Here's hoping for Phalen in 1999!
Yay! More hunt talk...thanks davidm! I'd also like to hear the stories from the folks who were convinced it was in Mounds Park til almost the very end and were digging there, even after the majority of people had switched to Cherokee...
Greg Sax - got the help I needed.
Going to school right? What are you majoring in?
You have a beautiful writing style!
Terry: I got about five boxes... Don't think that's what you meant to send.
Talk to Greg. He's got my work address and you can send 7.0 there. Can NOT open/work with 7.0 at home!!!!! Which is the address you sent to, Terry.
BeeyoB - Yes it worked - or at least it seemed to from here. Haven't heard from greenslvs2. No E-Mail came back. Pretty sure it got through.
Goes to show you - old dogs and new tricks :^))))).
Am signing off... troting out to the car in my bare feet and "Beenie Baby" suit to C's phone number and calling her....
Mite be back in a bit.

Terry, try sending it to me. I'll convert it to Sleeves' apps, and mail it to him in a variety of formats. B.
Greg Sax - sent one to you to forward.
BeeyoB just sent one to you too.
This could get to be habit forming.
Another obsession?!!!
BeeyoB - got your mail - thanks!
You were really quite a help.
Wish I could be there Sunday. My daughter is in a fashion show at THE Mall so I need to be there. Depending on timing, etc. thought we could run by quick, meet and move on. Maybe check in later - again depends on timing.
As Norm said, " Alone in a bar." Night all.
Cheers - will check in tomorrow. Peace

Will send Bash stuff to your work mail. Be back soon.

Terri, Beeyob: Got The Ice Breaker at work - I sent it to myself and finally got it into word.
Will have lots of copies of it for Sunday!!!!
Thanks, all for your help and input!!!
Catch you guys later!!! HAIL COOLER HAND LUKE!

Can you tell me what time your get-together is on Sunday? I read it was 11:30 pm but someone at our office told me it was 6:00 pm.

AM, son!!! That's AM!!!!!! In the morning, like. NOT AT NITE!!!! We're all kind'a tuckered after The Hunt.
See post #7523...
greenslvs2:
Work e-mail: greg@shoreland.com
Home e-mail: saxx@execpc.com
Cheryl, the 1990 clues are in the same paragraph as the 1997 clues because it was found at Como both years. I missed that at first too.
Greenslvs2, ok it might be a silly question, but what is the Ice Breaker that has been emailed back and forth?
Hello, Sorry, I just wanted to say hi and good luck finding the medallion.!! : )
Does a person have to be a constant poster to the Cooler before they're allowed to show up at the bash on Sunday? I've been lurking, but have only posted a couple of times...
Goldfish Gal, the more the merrier. Come on over for the bash! We're not checkin' IDs as far as I know. ;-)

Good, because I live right by there and may stop by...
I wish we could have more discussion about our hunt experiences rather than all the bashing , etc. that I read when I log on now.
Phew...11:30 AM is much better. <grin>
Do you all have a count...a guess...as to how many will be there?
John, I'm not sure but I think 30 is a low guess and 50-60 is probably more realistic.
As for me, I didn't dig anywhere near the "find site." I know I stepped over it, but I was convinced that it was somewhere down the hill, between Annapolis and Wyoming. Lot's of references, I thought, to the ball park, so I didn't dig much on the hill.

GF Gal, were you wearing a white cap? And/Or did you have your son with you? I spent a LOT of time at the ballfield.
I was SURE it would be by home or 1st base.
