The Pioneer Press medallion has been found. Details are at our Winter Carnival page.
The hunt's over, but the discussion rages on ...
Goldfish Gal
Vinyl: Nope, I'm tall and I had a blue cap on with earmuffs. I was with another guy and gal the first time I dug extensively at home plate. There was some guy there digging hard at second base, rambling on about how he was convinced it was there, mumbling "double, second, double your pace? Pace, pace..." And also, something about second base being a divet or something like that. Was that you? His looks kinda reminded me of the guy who won...
I was one of the folks, though, who thought that "double division" could have meant the doubles line on the tennis court and had to check that out, also. It being on Baker Street and all (dough).
Doesn't anyone want to know what I was wearing?! I had on a Twins cap and a Vikings jacket. Now how's THAT for a good Minnesota-boy treasure hunting apparel?
I hope that I don't annoy the original cooler posters with rehashing of clues, but I actually still find it interesting and would like to hear from those diggers who had weird or fun experiences and may not have told their whole stories. Maybe you came across some odd people who had "far-out" theories. Maybe you had someone rudely push you out of an area you were in cuz "they were there first." Whatever it may be, please do tell. It's still a medallion discussion cooler, tho' it seems it's turned into more of a "hey, when's the party" discussion.
I saw the bonfire but steered clear. Were you one of the guys that kept whoopin' and hollerin' that night? God, I bet the neighbors groaned when they read the clues that lead to their park...
The guy's name is greg. His computer's not hooked up yet. But he says fax it to him, 612/776-3082. Company is Jolly Tyme Favors, the regular phone is 612/776-9692. Ah... I'm trying to keep the dough in St. Paul - these guys are on Payne. Fax pic (he wants to know what size....?????) and send note about what we're doing, etc, etc., and maybe he'll have sympathy on us!!!!
John Jordan: You need to slog to get your answers!!! LOL!!!! I went thru yesterday and did a rundown (needs to be updated, but won't have time until tonite) of all coming!!! :)
Way Cool Coolerphiles slog!!!
Yust teasing you!!! Ian gave you a pretty good guesstamate.
Greg: Will send you my phone number at work when I fax the Ice Breaker.
Suebee:
TerryV is chomping at the bit to pick people's brains, so she made up a questionaire like, "Did you like the Cooler Discussion, will you come back, how long you been diggin', ever get close?" Stuff like that. I thought it a fun idea - kinda to break the ice if folks are nervous - and hopefully we'll get e-mail address so that we can update thru the year on our Saints outing, etc. It's a good questinaire to get a feel for the general digger... we're curious to see how many outta staters vs natives, where folks live, etc.
Don't let me forget to bring pens. Ask me tonite if I brought them home. Catch you later.
No, I did not partake in any of the whoopin and hollerin on Tues nite. I'll bet the neighbors were really pissed, and who could blame them. Those amateurs give the rest of us REAL hunters a bad name.
I would consider checking out the Sunday bash, but I am actually apprehensive about going because I may ask a question that's been asked a couple thousand times and be chastised for doing so.
Hi to water cooler crew. I still have been trying to keep up with of the messages. Steve and I did meet some of you at the park. We were in just as many places as all of you. What a DIG! I'm still sore and a little busy. Had a good nights sleep and just been trying to keep up with everything. The C. R. on the tree just looked like it might of been around somewhere near. Thanks for all the nice messages. We will try to be there on sunday. Will be in parade on Sat. night. Bye for now Maureen
Just out of curiosity, did the two that found the medallion dig it up in "undug" snow, or did they find it in snow that had already been torn up, clumps of ice, etc.?
Yea. Wasn't it? I was kinda in awe. Hope they come Sunday. Somebody that *actually* found IT! Wow. They could show us the EXACT place... Nice of her to stop by wasn't it??? Makes me think she feels like a Way Cooler Head, but just didn't post!!! Neat!
Maureen: If you're still around...do you get to keep a replica of the medallion or anything like that or do they just give you a check and send you on your way? I've always thought that they should give the finders something simple but classy that could be displayed at home.
Also, I've seen the pic of you and your brother that's up on the Web. Do they take other photos of you with Fortunado and shaking the mayor's hand and stuff like that. Frankly, that Fortunado dude scares the bejeezus out of me. I think you have to sit on the float with him. Ewww...
Congratulations Maureen! I too was curious whether Steve found the medallion in "undug" or clumped snow. I liked your story about how you thought he was teasing you when he said you had to go. Glad to hear that my sister and I aren't the only 30 something siblings who still rag each other.
I've also wondered about Greg Sax's question about getting a medallion replica. I've pondered the thought of actually keeping it (rather than taking the cash) if I ever find it--WHAT A GREAT CONVERSATION PIECE THAT WOULD BE!
Thanks for the clarification on the ice breaker, Green. I slogged and found it too. I just today noticed the search button on the bottom panel there - good observation skills, Sue - NOT! Tee hee hee.
Maureen!!! YOU GOT A SWEATSHIRT AND A HAT???? Do they have Cooler stuff on them or WC???? NEAT!!!! Lucky dog!! Fortunado scares me, too. Glad I'll have Cheryl and Black Widow when I have to ride next year. And I'm gonna be on the end *away* from him (shudder)!!!
Maureen, is the Med all scratched up from being dug up so many times and all? I think it's neat that they use the SAME ONE, year after year after yeaar.
Maureen - I thought I heard a rumor that you get a plaque or something. No? Just a sweatshirt and hat? (and of course FOUR THOUSAND BUCKS!!) Any special plans for the money?
Maybe I shouldn't say "just" a sweatshirt and hat. I'd be glad for anything. It wouldn't really matter if I'd touched the real medallion. One of these years...
SueBee, The money will be spent wisely and will still have some fun at the same time. By the way I'd rather be in a hot tub in the parade, but I guess it will be in a convertible and not a float.
Ian, Hi!!! I've tried you site, but all I get is funny little boxes after the list of places the Med has been hidden in past years. ????? What am I doing wrong????? :(
Greg... How are the buttons coming??? Send me your fax number so I can send your copy of The Ice Breaker to you. Need me to look up any more phone numbers?
greenslvs2: Buttons, buttons, buttons (on and on in a zombie-like drone) .... my "real" work is totally suffering today. There have been developments. We shall see by Sunday. That's the best I can do. If it all works out, I'd like to get $2.00 a piece for them. I don't expect everyone to bring cash to the cookout (well, maybe I do), but maybe we can work this through the honor system somehow. We'll figure it out before Sunday.
If I were a rich man, I wouldn't ask a thing. It's a simple design but I think everyone will like it. Next year we can do multi-color and mass produce them, but it's a ground-floor effort at this point so I hope you're all understanding.
greenslvs2: would rather not work through the fax. I think I have the icebreaker thing already anyway if it's the thing Terry made. If not, attach the file to an e-mail and send it to home or work.
Signing off until later tonight. I'll probably have a few beers in me by then (TGIF) so I apologize in advance for any tomfoolery.
Goldfish Gal: Keep up with the efforts to move the conversation toward past hunt stories; to me, they are very entertaining. I'm just caught up in the party prep right now. Can't believe things have progressed like this. It's a far cry from what I expected at Post #22.
Greg, I just reread post 22. Man o man, you had Cherokee pegged by clue 2! I'll be following your lead next year for sure. Holy cow! I was a Mounds fan until the double division clue.
My mom located a coffee urn for us to use (30 cups), so all I will need is coffee and water! I also picked up styrofoam cups and plastic silver ware. I am so looking forward to Sunday, it's really gonna be a blast to put faces with names. And a little adult conversation never hurt anybody either! Some days after only having been with the kids for days, I wonder if I'm going to make it. It has been good to at least have some adult contact through this board.
Glad to hear the Ice Breaker got through! Chomping at the bit? That would be a horse. I see myself more as an old dog - new tricks.
Great to see the medallion finders will be there Sunday. And it certainly sounds like the PP might show up. Fantastic!
If Greg's button thing works out, I'd like to get one. Probably won't be able to attend Sunday, but perhaps if someone could save me one, I could make arrangements to send payment to whoever handles the $$$.
Ian, What are the boxes supposed to be? The text is fine. All I get is boxes too. Look like ripped paper. Are they pictures? If we could see them, what would they be?
Vinyl: Nope, I'm tall and I had a blue cap on with earmuffs. I was with another guy and gal the first time I dug extensively at home plate. And also, something about second base being a divet or something like that. Was that you? His looks kinda reminded me of the guy who won...
Nope, I wasn't at second base at all. Was wearing a Twins cap.
I dug up first base line, and most of second to third.
I was one of the folks, though, who thought that "double division" could have meant the doubles line on the tennis court and had to check that out, also. It being on Baker Street and all (dough).
VINYL and I have to run. (to and fro?) OHHH Nooo!! GREEN- help me !!
Doesn't anyone want to know what I was wearing?! I had on a Twins cap and a Vikings jacket. Now how's THAT for a good Minnesota-boy treasure hunting apparel?

Once again, GF gal gets us back on track! Did anyone else hang out on Tues. nite with those drunk/stoned guys who had the big bonfire going?
gREG: Button Works 612/457-8900 has no computer; can do the job if they have the artwork w/in next hour...
Will keep looking and keep you posted (LOL!!!)
I saw the bonfire but steered clear. Were you one of the guys that kept whoopin' and hollerin' that night? God, I bet the neighbors groaned when they read the clues that lead to their park...
Greg: 'Think I found it... Karma, you know.
The guy's name is greg. His computer's not hooked up yet. But he says fax it to him, 612/776-3082. Company is Jolly Tyme Favors, the regular phone is 612/776-9692. Ah... Way Cool Coolerphiles slog!!!
Yust teasing you!!! Ian gave you a pretty good guesstamate.
greenslvs2: I was beginning to think this was going nowhere...thanx much...I'll follow up and let you know what happened.
Greg: Will send you my phone number at work when I fax the Ice Breaker.

;o)
GF: Stop thinking like that!!! Be there or be square!!! 11:30 a.m. Quit worrying about nothin'. We will be expecting you.
Greg: Send fax number and I'll send you your copy of The Ice Breaker.

Wow.....it was like hearing from royalty.
Should have asked her while you had the chance GG.
Steve was digging in snow. He hit the snow pack once, and it sounded rather funny. Not like a regular dig. So he hit it again and there it was.
Yea. Wasn't it? I was kinda in awe. Hope they come Sunday. Somebody that *actually* found IT! Wow. They could show us the EXACT place... Nice of her to stop by wasn't it??? Makes me think she feels like a Way Cooler Head, but just didn't post!!! Neat!
Hi Maureen! I didn't even connect your name when I just posted that!
So the snow that he dug in hadn't been touched yet? That's amazing.
How far away were you? Were you convinced it was in that area?
Maureen: If you're still around...do you get to keep a replica of the medallion or anything like that or do they just give you a check and send you on your way? I've always thought that they should give the finders something simple but classy that could be displayed at home.

Greg you get a sweatshirt and a hat, and the press were wonderful to us. I went into Ian's site, looks good! "You gotta Dig it"
