Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.

anybody been to Northwest Como Rec or whatever it is?
I was being filmed sliding --------------> into the focus o'the camera, you know? I'd take off, slide, and end upright in front o'the camera?
Did it, and did it, and did it, until I was huffing and puffing...
And kept doing it.
Only this one time... right as I got in line with the camera, BOTH feet went out from under me and I flew thru the air like a sack o'potoates! Just missed the PA gaffing - holding a mike - laying on the ground outta camera range...
EVERYBUDDY, including me broke up!!! They say ittiz classic... I come sliding into camera range with this happy, cheerful smile on my face, only to have my mouth fly open and my eyes pop out in shock and surprise... And I compeletely disappear!!!!
Only to me could it happen.
And let me tell YOU, LLady! I've one REALLY SORE BUTT!!!!
Keller Lake Park, Maplewood – attached to a piece of wood in 76, I think. Also was in Battle Creek - Mplwd side in 1970 and at Marydale park in Mplwd in 72 or something, that cause a big fuss, cause it got all tore up...
Very interesting this year... Doesn't seem to be too much bull in the clues so far, but depending on the next couple days' clues, I could easily see this getting to be a "let's throw out a bunch of vague bits and then herd them all into the right place near the end" fatality like Conway's hunt.
I'm not sure I like where the hunt's reputation is going. This is now being taken too commercially. The release of the newspaper clues and the website clues used to be pretty congruent. Now they're specifically releasing the clues at the PP 1 hour beforehand... and *gasp* when you're at the PP waiting, look at all the capitalist propaganda!
I'm sorry, but this was much more fun when the prize wasn't worth more than 5 grand. Half for the medallion, half for the support of the winter carnival. Now we can add on the collection of the daily clues.
As a side note, I'm guessing that the instating of the validity of the website clues was done as a motion of accepting a mistake regarding a plan to get people to purchase the PP more often. Originally, it seems logical that someone thought it would be a good idea to toss some more cash into the event if all the clues were clipped out of the paper. Approximately 9-11 papers multiplied by however many hardcore hunters there are out there (aren't we all? :) would probably equate, given a few more advertising and marketing models, to well more than the additional 5 thousand bucks they award the winner. Someone calling BS on them and requesting that the website clues (which is still indirectly traffic to their publication, although not as splendid as people purchasing the newspaper) be accepted wasn't apparently thought of. So, next time, release the Press's clues an hour ahead of time, and shove a bunch of commercials and dreck at the populace! Great idea! Oh well.
The hunt in Cherokee park a few years ago was the last hunt I had any fun on. There weren't more than a small herd of people outside the Press upon release time, and I'm willing to bet that THAT herd was only as large as it was because the distance to Cherokee park made it very convenient to be there in the first place. It's now a commercial attraction. Great.

Alright. I'm done whining. I have to get my quota in before I can have any fun digging. :)
From what I've read so far, it seems that many people are not listening to the tenants of the hunt:
I'm willing to bet the prize money, and more, to 99% accuracy, that:
- The medallion will NOT be hidden in a high traffic area. If you see many footprints around made by non-hunters, you can probably look elsewhere. - It will NOT be hidden directly next to or under an object. (Trash cans, bleachers, whatever. When will you cherubs learn?) - It will NOT be hidden in a place where snow removal will take place, or could potentially take place, or in an area that will as a result of snow removal bury it. - It will NOT be hidden in a sketchy area of St. Paul.
There are more, but these are key.
The skill of visualising the park is not from solving each clue specifically, but by learning the behavior of the clues... I mean, year to year, there are very apparent trends that are made with the prose and the vocabulary of the clues... and once you read through all the hunts, clues, and explanations that you have access to, you'll be able to SEE what these clues are foreshadowing.
I have a lot of confidence in merely studying past hunts and comparing similar trends for the front half of the search. There's nowhere near enough data to even think about doing anything more than drive around and scope out the different possibilities that the first few clues narrow the hunt down to (which are still plentiful :( ).
Then again, it might all change tonight. :) All of us have the potential to get into a frenzy, grab the shovels, and dig ourselves late to work tomorrow :)
So, opening the questions, do you guys think that it
matt, you gotta go find the lyrics this year that were written for the hotel coolerfornia. "but mistakes they made last year -- they tend to forget..."
Someone was asking about what's in and on the air in BC. Well, there are airplanes flying overhead. And Pt. Douglas Drive is nearby--Paul Douglas is on TV. There's also a Falcon St. and a Cardinal St. But, I'm not convinced BC is the place.
I just feel so lost with these darn clues! We could be running all over the city for the next 3 days! With the snow melt to come, I'm afraid someone will just stumble onto it unwittingly. Anyone have any ideas that make any sense?
Sorry to sound like a party poop here, but I did a quickie through Merriam last night just to see what everyone is hub-bubbing about (didnt like it much) and I spotted that camera crew. Ok, Ok. You've made your movie, it was fun...la-la-la...now take those cameras back to NY and let us dig in F@#!*%*& peace. Screw your additional footage...you are turning the hunt into a joke...I agree with (sorry forgot who said it up there)that the best recent hunt was Cherokee. The clues were fly, hunters were hunters...the bs was minimal. I'm not complaining about the $10,000 plus dollar prize, but cant we have substantial prize and integrity or do we have to sell out? Food for thought...see you all in the parks.
gogreen (boy! Does it ever feel weird to type THAT! :D), I'm not sold on Falcon and Cardinal and planes in the air.
Clue said "in AND on the air."
That 'and' is important. Gotta go together. Planes and birds are only "in" the air, they're not "on" it. Only broadcast waves are in the air - as they're transmitted - and on the air - when they're received.
Am I the only one noticing the dualities this year? Like Chair-O-Key? Talk about double vision!!!
green, i never picked up on the duality of the broadcast waves like that. i'd argue them the other way around though, as most of us associate being on the air with transmitting and, well in the air has to be received then. how's that for a screwy sentence for you?
hey all! I finally am writing something after slogging through about 1 million posts! Here's what I think about the whole echoing deal: I don't think they would make realations to past hunts and events just to keep the hunt open to those unaware of all the prev. hunts. Also, if anyone needs info or questions about Merriam Park, feel free to ask me, cuz I live very close to it and know it like the back of my hand...
anybody been to Northwest Como Rec or whatever it is?
bloodthirsty god of war, slim.
God of Hunt is me hehehe
mmmm...could be good...could be bad!
All I know is tonite's clue better be good. Cause by sunday it sounds like there will be no snow on the ground

Cheek's WORSE!
Seems we've our first NTFCF Blooper...

I needed that laugh, green! Is your life always so colorful?

Ares, yeah, Merriam and Como still in the running with moi.
However, Ares, you didn't do it in front of like 12-15 people with a camera - running - focused on you!!! Pretty embarrassing!

I was looking at this map
http://www.stpaul.gov/depts/parks/maps/Recloclrg.gif
Seems like the bigger recs are in red.
Heyden Heights? Rice & Lawson? Never heard of these. Anybody been to those?
Heights are hills?
MAYBE
wish i'd have been there, green. where were you at?
no i havent
Whew! Matt, you'd make a good news commentator for Mr. NewsXXXXXXXXX!
Annie, the colour o'my life has now been eclipsed by the colours starting on my left butt cheek!!! :D
Wished I'd fallen on my head:
a) maybee it would have knocked some sense into it about these clues,
b) it wouldn't have hurt as much since there's nuttin' up there!
was at highland

Well, I think I will leave with what I have started with.
I do not think that it is in any of the parks I have been to this year. Mounds, BC, MLK, Merriam, Highwood Hills. (I have to work this year)
They all stink, I think. BC is the best, but not a good solution.
could be i dont think so though
NO MR NEWS TONITE?
OK+Hey+n= honkey
lets wait for the next clue

I've just got this awful feeling like ittiz going to be at Conway... I'm anxious to see if streets start popping up.
Not that I'd be able to noodle the names outta the clues, but I'm gonna try!
he's been here once, medallionator. he's also left us once.
Ares, you are not going tonight? You are melting back into annonymousdom?
