2002 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.

Merriam Park and West Minnehaha Recreation Centers are both not very far from Jewell Park.

Maybe "time" in the past clues refers to part time rec center.

gogreengo - I don't have my map right here, but I try to do it from memory

"Fair"view is on one side

"we'll" - Wheeler or Wheelock is on the other - I can remember the exact names.

Also Hubbard is a block off - for Hubbard Broadcasting -"on the air"

That was my take on it.

This is such a love/hate relationship! Darn that clue doesn't seem to help much now but perhaps in the light of day... I hate to think that I will be leaving on Sunday and will be far, far away until next Thursday. I WANT to dig!!! Hopefully, I can get my laptop fixed in time to bring it along on my trip so I can keep in touch with the action. Best of luck to all!

I think packer guy is onto something. clever thinking

Broomball stick

You people are funny!!!

Here is my take (and I've been at park very nearly first last four years).

Park n' Rec. If you go to Como Park, and then find the fields on the south end of the park, you will see a sign that says which direction is to the Park and Rec permit office (main office). Park office is on Jessamine

This park (McDowell fields or something like that, left it in my truck :)) is just north of Gabes. It is technically part of Como. Along the south end of the park is Jessamine (read MINE) Get it, MINE, jewels, diamonds, etc.

Also, a sledding hill encompasses the fields on the entire western ring, which funnny, consist of a bunch of ballfields.

Oh, you say you want something in and on the air. How about Perry Como, the singer??? On the Como street sign, which oddly borders the North end of the fields. There are two parking lots, street parking is totally legal, and plenty o' space for tots to play (there is also a pool within 100 yds). There are your street references.

I am still noodling the word "wreck". I'm sure there was a train wreck on the RR tracks that are just south of the fields at some point, but haven't really looked into this.

The only reason I tell you all this is that this part of Como is sooooo big that I could only cover about 1/1000th of the park a night. This is where you will find me tomorrow night wearing a blue/yellow columbia jacket poking around in the snow with a broomball stick and maybe a rake.

The problem I found there tonight is all the footprints have turned to ice, making it hard to penetrate

Sorry so long, good luck

regarding post about Newell Park no longer having a recreation center - the map on the St Paul Parks & Recreation website identifies Newell as having a part-time recreation center. I, too, like your thinking packerguy...
