The Pioneer Press medallion has been found. Details are at our Winter Carnival page.
The hunt's over, but the discussion rages on ...
Santa Dave
Terry: Yes, I am an amateur radio operator and a stand-up comedian. I perform most Mondays at 8:00 PM at Acme Comedy Company at 708 North 1st Street in Minneapolis. You must have read that on my web page:
John J.: I'll be glad to cook dogs or dish up potato salad (LOL!) at next year's Bash if the PP puts it on. Just let me know what you want me to do/how I can help!!!
I don't know if I can commit to PP putting anything on. We might participate in some way with something you all put together yourselves. While I can't really say much now, I'm floating some ideas around the Planet staff about all of this.
New picture. I can't seem to get out of the habit of coming here first when I log on. Maybe I'll have to start going to PPMCCA. (pioneer press medallion cooler crew anonymous). :-)
It seems like everyone has moved to nightspeak. I always intend to but I've been doing so much webbin' at the job that I can't bring myself to turn the home 'puter on. Since it looks like the afternoon's mine, I'll take the microphone:
All: This has become quite the animated .gif alley. At the risk of boos and catcalls, I don't think I like it here as much with all the eye candy. It's quite distracting. Boooo, hisssss..... ;^)
All: Obviously, I'm pleased with all that's happened in the past couple of days. However, I think it's time to chill on that issue and harness our excitement a little bit. The last thing we want to do is become annoying to Mother Pioneer. They've indicated that they dig us and appreciate what we are doing so let's not push it. I don't think we're close to reaching that point now, but a gentle reminder at this point may be in order.
Ian & BeeyoB: I've been hangin' in the background on the web page issue because I didn't want to stir the flavor out of it. Too many cooks spoil the stew and all that... But if you're offering, I'd like to be involved on that side of things. Here's the thing though (and this may be what keeps me on the side rather than in front of this project), I'm particular about design and content. I create and edit books and web pages for a living so I'm fairly no-nonsense. I'm creative and I like fun stuff (I think that's obvious by now) but extra noise just gets on my nerves (e.g., excessive images, animation (unless tastefully done), poor use of frames, excessive outside links). You get the picture -- I'm anal retentive about that which I create. You can have good content or a good design, but I firmly believe that if you don't have both you don't have anything worth looking at. So with that, I put it in your court. You were on this before me, so I'll understand if you just want some background support rather than the whiz-bang shebang of it all.
Whether you want my extensive involvement or not, here's some opinions about what I think should be covered:
our organization, what we're about, etc.
volunteer efforts, results of our involvement
group outings: the "what, where, when"
Pioneer Press medallion hunt -- basics, history, etc.
one-stop shop for community-oriented treasure hunts
what you look for
how long you have to find it
where they are
when they occur
who's in charge
what they give away
There's room for several more ideas, but the focus should be self-centered with a hook. Our main hook is as "a complete guide to the Pioneer Press medallion hunt" and our follow-up hooks are information about national (international?) hunts of a similar nature. I think it would be nice to go national to draw more attention to our efforts, plus it would give me something to do research on.
And, finally, I know for a fact that the Schell Bock Beer Festival has not yet happened. I'm sorry I haven't followed up on this, but I keep forgetting to bring my article to work. I promise I'll go online tonight from home.
Microphone off....drink of water....back to work....
I've recently moved to a new server at work and will not be able to send e-mail until Friday p.m. I've had a friend send the following to me at home, and will resend via e-mail to all I can think of tonite. But in the meantime, here's a copy-and-paste job.

people know about it.
This information was received this morning from IBM, please share it
with anyone that might access the Internet.
Also, if anyone receives mail entitled, "PENPAL GREETINGS!", please
delete it WITHOUT reading it! This is a warning for all Internet

through an
e-mail message entitled "PENPAL GREETINGS!"!!
DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANY MESSAGE ENTITLED "PENPAL GREETINGS"!!
this message appears to be a friendly letter asking you if you are
interested in a penpal, but by the time you read this letter, it is
too late. The Trojan Horse Virus will have already infected the boot
sector of your hard drive, destroying all of the data present.
It is a self-replicating virus, and once the message is read, it will
AUTOMATICALLY forward itself to anyone whose e-mail address is present
in YOUR mailbox.
The virus will DESTROY your hard drive and holds the potential to
DESTROY the hard drive of anyone whose mail is in your mailbox and
who's mail is in their mailbox and so on. If this virus keeps
getting passed, it has the potential to do a great deal of DAMAGE to
computer networks
worldwide!!!
Please delete the message entitled "PENPAL GREETINGS!!" as soon as you
see it! And pass this message along to all of your friends, relatives
and the other readers of the newsgroups and mailing lists, which
you are on so that they are not harmed by this dangerous virus!
Please pass this along to everyone you know so this can be stopped.
PASS THIS ON TO YOUR FRIENDS. WARNING!!!! This is a new virus
going around in the last couple of days! DO NOT open or even look at
any mail that you get that says: "Returned or Unable to Deliver".
This virus will attach itself to your computer components and render
them useless.
Immediately delete any mail items that say this. AOL has said this
is a very dangerous virus, and there is NO remedy for it at this time.
Please
be careful, and forward to all your on-line friends A.S.A.P.
Greensleeves: Khan's Mongolian BBQ is one of my FAVORITE places to eat! Especially on Wednesdays and Sundays when they have crab on the buffet, too! Did you go to the one in Roseville or the one in Richfield? I've eaten at both but the one in Roseville is closer to my house. Maybe our group could meet there.
Greg Sax: It's interesting to see that you do web pages for a living. Maybe I could get you to look at mine and tell me what you think of it and give me some suggestions. Maybe later instead of now. Right now I know it's pretty crummy because I haven't had time to work on it lately but after I work on it some more, then it shouldn't look quite as bad as it does now. It's at:
Oh my GOD! It must be Joe Joe. I'm sure you know this already, but you're pretty pathetic. And quite honestly, I probably shouldn't be wasting my time acknowledging you, but I want to make sure everyone else catches on to your little "capital I inslead of lower case l" trick...
Green - just FYI. 99 times out of 100, those type of email virus notices are hoaxes. The "virus" is the fact that people clog up email systems sending the scare notice to their friends.
Dave Young: We went to the one in Roseville. I'm not as fond of that type of cusine as you are <g>, but really enjoy the atmosphere. My friend had never been (I'd been years ago to the orig in, what was it, Dinkytown?) so, agreed to eat there. Would have loved to have had lamb, but they don't put it out for lunch... SAW about the scallops and crab... OH!!! Would have KILLED for some!!!!
Don't know where we'll end up for a get together to look at all the pics. Prolly a central location for us all. Could be anywhere, don't know, but we'll see what others think of Khan's, for sure, for sure!!!
SueBee, it was issued - that warning - from my corporate headquarters, to me at work. It was not a letter that was sent to me from a friend or someone like that. And it was not a forwarded message. It's just exactly the way the author wrote it. Don't quote me, but I think we've people that are always contacting companies that do virsus stuff - on the lookout for, etc.
And... about four weeks ago, on AOL, I *did* receive a "not able to send message" from some weird name. And I'd not sent anything to anybody. Thank god I had the sense not to let curiosity get the better of me!
Green, I'm not as befuddled as yesterday. Actually hubby (home sick) figured it out but couldn't make it work. He didn't "set preferences" so didn't take much to finish all his work on this today.
If you'd like, I'll be glad to call Schell's tomorrow and get info on "who, what, where, when, why, how much" for the Bock hunt and then post it here.
Now that we don't have to scramble for finding a way to have a Web page, etc. (Thanks, Casey!), we can sit back, really look at things and then dig in!
Regarding getting together to re-hash the Re-Hash Bash and look at pics of the event, there's no hurry. How's this: We give the PP folks time to digest and work on the ideas we've thrown out, one of which is logoed wear, as Casey mentioned. Then when they've let us know what they've accomplished/done/have we set a date and include them!!!! They've pics, too, that would be neat to see. Plus, they can bring the logoed wear and we bring $'s for it!!!
I'll be glad to handle setting this up if you want. I do need ideas about where, though. I was thinking... The Vulcans have *their* place, and the Saint's folks have Gabe's... Some instituion in/around St. Paul??? Ideas??? Thoughts???
Lot's of what we're to be about will have to wait, I think, until more info is received back from the PP. And it will come. In the meantime we can gather here and keep pondering things.
Regarding next year's 'Bash: from what John Jordan said, I think we should just plan an event like the First 'Bash. Only... figure out ways to get more people to come - like Greg said, there's prolly a bunch of folks out there that don't have computers that would LOVE to re-hash all their years of digging. Hummmmm.... wonder if there's some way we could contact past winners? Even via snail-mail... Invite them, tell them about it?
Just more thoughts!!! Hope to see you tonite, Greg!!! We've really missed you!!!
Terry: Yes, I am an amateur radio operator and a stand-up comedian. I perform most Mondays at 8:00 PM at Acme Comedy Company at 708 North 1st Street in Minneapolis. You must have read that on my web page:

Just checking to see my new picture. It's quiet in here....
HOWDY !!
Just checking in. Yes it's quiet in here. LOVE the new picture SueBee!!! Seems fitting.
HOWDY!! back Ian.
I'll be back later. Just slogging through during lunch. Will see you all later.
New picture. I can't seem to get out of the habit of coming here first when I log on. Maybe I'll have to start going to PPMCCA. (pioneer press medallion cooler crew anonymous). :-)
Neat!!! Message boards!!! New headers... You PP guys have been busy!
Ate at Khan's Mongolian BBQ today... My fortune read, "Your efforts will result in much profit"!!! They have, they have!!! :)
Noodling an idea(s) about getting together to see the pics that were taken Sunday.
Will catch you fellow Heads tonite from the homestead... I'm sure I'll still be hopping happily 'round!
Keep the faith!!
