There's also the possibility that there are some ulterior motives as to where the treasure is hidden. Last year, when it was in Como, it was Como Zoo's 100th anniversary. If they wanted to call attention to a particular area, this is a good way to do it. I know Norm Coleman would be very interested in drawing people downtown right now, so the capitol or maybe Mounds Park would have an edge in that sense.
Janet, Was the old man at Mound driving a big old station wagon full of six kids and shovels? We saw him last year at Como. He had a great theory about the Hamms brewery. ;-)
was thinking that a place to play that makes winter more pleasureable might have something to do with a new arena for a hockey team. are they planning to play in the civic center or will there be a new stadium? near mounds park? :)
Mama Ozzy - Thanks for info on Newell Park !! it's close, the tains run, the fair is near, the saints are near, smoke is everywhere - sounds like a place to start to me..
What do city streets have to do with Newell Park, or for that matter Mounds Park? In Highland the plumes of smoke could at least be from barbeque pits.
No clinching clues yet, think its time for bed and save my strength for friday night. still accepting half from anyone who should stumble across the med.
Historically, whenever they bring up a "stack" or "smoke in the skies" clue, it's some kind of reference to the NSP smokestack visible from several downtown area parks. Mounds should still be in the running, but Cherokee may have jumped into the picture again with its proximity to the stack and past ideas that Annapolis and/or Ottawa are "city streets." Plus, the line "you'll soon be back" may have been an indicator that they, in fact, are going against the usual pattern of repeating hiding places; it was last at Cherokee only 6 years ago. The mention of "track" always calls up railroad tracks (visible below Mounds).
A couple years ago I tried to make a complete list of all the places the treasure could be hidden. I can't claim to remember where these all are, but perhaps we can start a process of elimination.
Battle Creek Park
Como Park
Conway Heights
Dunning Field
Harriet Island
Highland Park
Horton Park
Irvine Park
Linwood Park
Merriam Terrace
Newell Park
Phalen Park
Stinson Park
Terrace Park
Langford Park
Rice Park
State Capitol
State Fairgrounds
I have to admit that I've never heard of Cherokee Park, though my map is a bit old. So let's start eliminating.
Mounds is ok, but we did tour Cher and Propect this eve. On the way across the highbridge, we did take note of the NSP stack on the 'sippi. Cher again? And what's with all the tire tracks ALL over Cher park? Friday is here!
I have been searching for the medallion since 1952 and have always been at the park! BUT I am still searching. We enjoy the carnival and all of the excitment it brings to St. Paul. My guess is Mounds or Cherokee. The smoke stack is either NSP or Pig's Eye. The train track run under both of the parks. Rosebud refers to the container and there is a La Rosa Pasta that has a large red rose as their signature!
Both parks are on the river, have playgrounds, sliding hills, views of the cathedral and capital, and are scenic overviews.
I live in Highland and my guess is that it is not there even though it would be very close.
"If you're on the wrong track, don't blow your stack"... could that mean you *are* on the wrong track if thinking train, and should be looking for a field/running track. Any running track-type thing in Highland?
Too, the airport periodically "blows smoke" into the air... And that's close to Highland... Which we'd soon be going "back to" if the Med is there.
Highland Park has a running track, golf course, picnic area, playground, water towers, hills for sliding, walking bridge from one side of the park to the other (over Montreal Ave. - a city name) a public pool for water, a high school close by, woods, but no smoke stacks ( the airport is much to far away - sorry!) and nothing to do with a dome.
some old man at mound was talikn about a pasta factory in stpaul d that does their labeling with a rose {JUST an iidea} good point about highland
Has it ever been in Newell Park ? Anybody??
MikeM yup sure is.....*laughing*

Donna - It was at newell Park in 1984....

Highland just took a beating, but not Newell.
A train blowing smoke by mounds...a busy factory somewhere...
I'm off. My partner in crime has an idea. Good luck to you all...
Godhead bless...
The same rail line runs from Highland Park, along the river, by downtown, and right along Mounds Park and ends up not too far from Battle Creek
...
*gone*
If you're on the wrong track don't blow your stack
Just look for a plume of smoke in the skies
With this in view you'll soon be back
In the hunt for our valuable prize

Good luck to anyone heading out to their pick of parks! Wish I was out hunting too....

Are you sure its not Highland Park?
Water (street), woods, (railroad) track, stack with a plume of smoke, all this sounds like the vista from Cherokee park to our little group.
where is newell park anyway

Ms. Snowflake: Which park is closest to Pig's Eye? I read on the Net that Pig's Eye (Lake) has the largest crane or ospery or heron rookery...
With so many birds... they would be "almost immeasurable."
Where is La Rosa Pasta?
That's true...but Delo is still there..*s*
David Allison, et. al: I'll post this now instead of later when Water Cooler traffic could be heavier...
