It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.
Terry
Sunday's paper should have the Winter Carnival insert with lots of information. Make sure to check it out!
You can learn all about the medallion hunts from years past, some of the activities that we've been involved with in the last year, and a bit about this crew that met here hunting the medallion last year.
I've cleaned my tools and checked them twice. My buttons have been bought, and my cards sent in. I've bought my "white" ear muffs and made a "Treasure Digger" badge to wear. My long johns are waiting to be worn once again as my quest for the medallion begins. My vacation request has been turned in, as I wait by my computer for the first clue to be read. I shall look for the cooler crew with excitement in their eyes. Joy fills our hearts and hunting in our dreams, the prize is waiting only for us to find. Good hunting to all and to all good luck.
Sending in registration cards today fur buttons. Don't even know if I *own* a shovel!!! YIKES! Will look tonite. Have decided that with this weather they're prediciting, a leaf rake will be usless - we're to be getting some ice. Do I need a hoe? Seems some folks like hoes; the guy that found The Med in '94 likes them. Do they really work well????
Have new glove-mittens, new scarf, new hood-like-thing that goes way down in your coat to keep the wind out - all GREEN - and new Sorels I've been breaking in for the last 2-3 weeks. Got two pair o'long underwear... Think will wear sweat pants - Eags says they're not only easy to dig in, but very warm. Will try them.
Will check out the Colman lantern and stove this weekend and get those ready to go. Know where the Thermos is.
NEWS FLASH!!!!
Word just in from MJ and Mom!!! We WILL have a laptop putter tomorrow nite at McGovern's and our own phone so we can hook up and dial in here, MomPlanet, for THE FRIST CLUE at 11:30 p.m.!!!
Look for us at Shoot The Breeze-Live! - LIVE!!! - from Patrick McGovern's at about 11:00 p.m.!!!!
Why are you going to be in Shoot the Breeze instead of in the Medallion - Water Cooler? After all, the Medallion Cooler is for discussing the Hunt. I'm getting confused as to where I should be at when talking about the clues. I thought the "Shoot the Breeze" was for talking about everything else but the Medallion. Am I wrong? Please give me some divine guidance.
The leaf rake will not work in the snow very well. The best tools are a garden rake and a hoe. Both tools break through the snow and "ice". A hoe is the best tool. A shovel works okay, but not as good as the hoe.
We have split personalities!!! LOL!! We hit both places! However, we keep this board specificially for medallion conversation. Shoot the Breeze can handle both, medallion conversations AND other stuff! So you'll have to check both boards! ;)
Our Get Together's at McGovern's are called "Shoot The Breeze - Live!" as we're live - face-to-face. It's a take off on the Water Cooler, "Shoot The Breeze With The Cooler Crew."
So, tomorrow nite, when we'll be having a STB-L at Patrick McGovern's, and we'll actually be able to go live - here!!! We will be here, in this cooler, The Med Hunt Cooler, at 11:00 p.m. - anxiously awaiting the First Clue!
Again, the Cooler called "Shoot The Breeze With The Cooler Crew" is an untopiced Cooler to just have a great time.
All folks that want to discuss The Medallion Hunt, clues, stuff like that - should be here!!!
So... This is where The Cooler Crew will be tomorrow nite at 11:00 p.m, while having a great time at Patrick McGovern's!!! WAITING TO NOODLE WHERE THE MED IS!!! I CAN'T WAIT!!!
Thanks for your guidance, again!! I just wanted to make sure I'm chatting with the right Crew. I'll see you here tomorrow night. Until then, happy noodling!!
Come one! Come all! Come to the Pre-Hunt Party TONIGHT, Saturday, January 23, 1999, beginning at 5PM (until closing), at Patrick McGovern's on West 7th Street (at Chestnut Street), just a few blocks west of 7th and Kellogg, which is on the western edge of downtown St. Paul.
Does anyone know how many clues are scheduled to be published before the final clue? It seems to me that the clues are becoming more ambiguous every year, and the medallion is usually found towards the end. I have to plan my vacation time from work. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!
Hello everyone!! I can't wait for this bad boy to start up again! I must have walked over it 50 times last year @CP!! Oh well, a little older a little wiser eh? See ya later!!
Here's two reasons that it could be at Phalen and one reason for Highland Park. The medallion hasn't been up in the area of Phalen for quite some time and it's rather overdue. Also, it can hold a large number of people. The medallion could be at Highland because it's the 150th anniversary of the Pioneer Press and Highland Park was the first park that the medallion was placed. Happy Hunting!
Ooooohhhhhh..... Allie... My, what a neat idea... The Highland-thingy... You mite bee on to something!!!
I've thought Phalen since the end o'December. Don't know why - intuition?
Two!!! Hay, fella!!! Can you make it to McGovern's tonite? Bring the 'rents! The more the merrier!!!
Denephew... I'm not shure. There's usually like 12 or so clues (somebuddy jump in here and correct me if I'm wrong.). I'm typing up the 70's rite now for our Web site, and back then they had 13. I'm planning on taking off like Feb 1-3, or 4... Tho, may not have to... You know how these Hunts go!
It all starts tonite - the xcitement, the thinking/noodling, the hunting, the digging, folks out in the dark... Oh! I just love The Hunt!!!
ok, i had no idea the hunt began today. i thought it was next friday. but my medalion mobile is not quite preparred. besides i lost my bowling figure hood ornament. my pre hunt predictions are hidden falls in a cookie wrapper. but i like mears, and newell too. now im ready to be full time on the watercooler again, except when digging, or attending an ocansional class. well i have to go train for today.
Only Eye, Two. We'll bee in our Coolerheads Prevail shirts, white pith helmets. You WON'T bee able to miss us, tho we may be downstairs. Just ask, "Where's The Cooler Crew?"
We finally registered for the first time this year, after four years of hunting. Last year we were right there, but missed it again.
Remember when everyone thought it would be in Phalen last year before the clues? How about Hidden Falls? Highland is a possibility, but I wonder if they're afraid people will dig up the golf course?
Whoops, Two... Read that as "green" not Cooler - getting old! I'll bee the one with the green pom-poms.
We're hoping to have a cable so we can hook into MomPlanet and get the First Clue at 11:30; but if we can't, a Coolerhead in MO will be on here, and will call us at Pat's and tell us the clue. ISN'T THAT COOLER!!!
WRIGHT!!! Welcome bock!!! So good to read you!
Yea, we didn't know until yesterday a.m. the first clue was coming out tonite - and we'd planned out get together like 3-4 weeks ago!!!
Since I work around the Capitol, it is wishful thinking that it would be on the mall of the Capitol. But since that is unlikely, I will gladly make the treck to wherever the clues lead us. Phalen sounds possible!
phalen not since 83 or 84. back when i was 3 or 4. for some reason theve never gone back their. possible they were banned cuz of too much destruction. thats what happened at mounds in 87. i like hidden falls, mears and newell still. if anyone sees tire tracks in the parks, make sure to report it. im scouting for those tomorow. because last year cherokee had them, and it also had a treasure. probally just a cowensadence.
What's there to say about it.....Nothing, glad its just in St. Paul. Ya think a small park or is it Phalen time finally?? Maybe they'll go small this time. Who knows, but it sure is exciting that this is upon us and even posted like 5 hours early! Maybe every night, ya right!
Don't laugh at me, first year doing this online!! It says the first clue will be posted at 11:30 tonight yet I see clue #1. So, is it really a clue or not?? I just might be a little excited!!!
Sunday's paper should have the Winter Carnival insert with lots of information. Make sure to check it out!
Lest we forget...
...the past.
hehehehe
Marshee Brass - Hello! We are meeting at Patrick McGovern's this Saturday at 5:00. The info is in my second line. Please e-mail me if you can come.

I'm so xcited I can hardly tyep!!!! The first clue comes out TOMORROW NITE!!!!!
Okay, okay. So it'll just say The Med's in Ramsey county, on public land... but still...
IT ALL STARTS AGAIN TOMORROW NITE!!!! THE HUNT IS ABOUT TO BEGIN YET AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've cleaned my tools and checked them twice. My buttons have been bought, and my cards sent in. I've bought my "white" ear muffs and made a "Treasure Digger" badge to wear. Hi Everyone, The Hunt Begins! Are we ready!
Is anybody still awake? Oh well, I guess not. Good Night.
Ittiz now today, not tomorrow. Ittiz the day that was yesterday's tomorrow...
That means...
LET THE HUNT BEGIN!!!!
Good luck one and all, and have FUN!!!

Me and the Medallion Mobile

Can't wait to meet you f2f!!!
Hay, BJ!!! I registered all four o'my buttons!
Ter's Frogtown... Mom and Radar are east, I'm dang near in WI...
DDY and Ian are like North central...

Eags is Chair-O-Key...
I wunder if Joe will come on the Cooler this year. He's such an arse, but he does make some interesting conversation........
I'm split on him showing up. I let him roll off my back - after awhile - last year, but like... He izz a titch of a pain...
Well, if he duz, he duz!
Ah yes, Eags in in Chairokey, thats who it is. I just was wondering who lived close 2 me.
Were you on when he was harassing everyone last year??

I don't believe in looking into clues to far, but it does tell us more than just a park in St. Paul.
Yeah it may or may not hint towards it being in a park with a golf course, but it could be there to throw us off and warn us too, like usual.
