It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.

Do any of you think that fairway or green from the first clue mean anything?
I think fairway and green are a long shot.... but i DO think that they were used to set up the rhyme for scene (which may somehow refer to movies, TV, etc.)
The easy 'first clue overread mistake' would be to say that its in a videotape case or near a theatre..... too early to tell
I just think that the fairways and greens are the most sensitive parts of GCs to damage and were used to set up the rhyme....(I've never found the puck either tho....)
Hey hunters!!!!Here we go again!!! Sorry!! Rob and I could not make it last night to McGoverns! I tried to get out of work but couldnt!!!! I am soooo ready!!!!Can't wait to see you all out there!!!! I will be wearing a white hat! I am short and blonde and 8mos. pregnant and Rob is a really tall guy you can't miss us!!!lol Be prepared for the crowds THIS year!! Take care all and we'll see you out there!!! HAPPY HUNTING!!!!!!!!!!
"please don't disturb" - hotel "won't be caught" - jail The medallion OBVIOUSLY will be found at Harriet Island, directly across ole Miss from the jail and the Radisson! I'm gonna grab my magic Frisbee and get right over.
Hi, everyone. I agree with Como not being the best place to hide the medallion this year since many activities are going to be there already. Why hide the medallion and have the hunters be looking and have the other Winter Carnival people there for the activities. Way too many people at one place, even if Como is big enough to hold that many people. Crouds would be hard to handle. Cherokee, though, really had no parking either. I remember last year my better half was at Cherokee on the 4th clue. Was the only one there until about the 6th clue when everyone else started thinking Cherokee Park. If you read the previous clues, almost everything said had to do with something. Yes, we know it's in St. Paul and at a park. You have to agree, we were mostly thinking a St. Paul park before the clue came out. So throw that info. out, and you have a park near a golf course and probably a street referencing something to "scene" or "wrong way" sign or possibly a movie theatre. Was there a movie ever made at a St. Paul Park? Something to check out. "Wasting" could maybe referencing trash can, dump site, yard waste, etc. Don't damage the ground - this is something we always have to be reminded of. Some people have no respect for the park grounds. Anyway, I'm rattling on. Sorry! What do you think?
Is there a golf course near by Harriet Island? What about "being caught" meaning something about fishing and nets and being at the wrong location to catch something (medallion)?
Last time it was at Hidden Falls, if I remember correctly the 1st clue also refered to the start of something big. It meant Itasca which is a street that runs into the park. We may be reading too much into #1, but then again you never know.
Was Hidden Falls clues referencing something big being the beginning of the Mississippi River starting near there? I'm going to have to pull out my Medallion Binder and look up the previous clues and check references.
That reminds me. Did anyone get a map of St. Paul with their Winter Carnival Button? The paper said this morning that with the purchase of a button you would get a map. I did not get one.
I just returned from Highland Park. I wasn't happy with all the no parking signs all over the place and the no parking after 11:00. It actually seems rather small when you take away the golf course area. Too, it was a difficult drive with the traffic and low speed limits. I was the only one there, by the way. No hunters out yet, which is no surprise. FYI: The snow is deep this year. Happy Hunting!
Most parks close at 11 PM but during the hunt, the rules change because of the medallion and everyone looking at all hours. The police never bothered the hunters who where digging at 1 and 2 AM. It's kinda like there are no closing hours during the Carnival/Medallion time.
Hi, Medallionhound. So what do you think about AllieGo's info. on Highland. Doesn't sound much like the perfect location for a big hunt with lots of people.
I talked to someone at the Pioneer Press and she told me that only 2 people know where the Medallion is hidden. And, further stated, that they have no rules that the Medallion has to be hidden prior to the beginning of the clues being posted. I was thrilled about hearing that information. But, afterall, it is their game and they make up the rules. She did say that most of the time the medallion was hidden prior to the start of the hunt.
Oh, by the way, if you don't mind a big leap here, when I think of "won't be caught" and "at the wrong scene," it reminds me of police or the scene of a crime. There's a police station in Highland Park. But, again, I could be reading into that first clue because I'm a little bored waiting for the next one.
AllieGo, that's goes right along with everyone else's thinking. The best thing to do is make a list of everything that surrounds the park. Eventually, the clues will eliminate things. At this point, everything is helpful and useful. Thanks, for going to Highland and checking it out for the rest of us who haven't got that far yet.
I can't believe they would attempt to hide it after the clues are published. The person you talked to was probably just speculating, like everyone else.
I did talk to a police officer, Treasure, and he told me there were no limits for evening hunting. So, yep, I think you're right about that. But parking was my issue.
I was looking in Mapblast for maps of Highland and Phalen this morning. It's a good web site that shows surrounding streets and you can zoom in and out of the area. You can also make the map bigger as well. If you're not sure of directions, check it out.
Storm, she was very serious when she was talking to me. I expressed my concern about that being "cheating" and she said it was the Pioneer Press' game and they can do whatever they want. However, it only makes sense to hide it early and let more snow bury it deeper. Remember, last year Cherokee had trees cut/trimmed and they still were able to hide it right where the trees were trimmed. They are very cleaver at their hiding. AllieGo, parking should be a main concern I would think. If there is not ample parking then the police will have a harder time controlling the crouds, therefore the police will not be happy with Mom. Then there's another Maplewood concern with law suits.
Greetings fellow hunters! I'snt it wonderful to participate the friendly cities medallion hunt. It's to bad that Minneapolis could not come up with something this original. I would like to take this time to welcome all people from every city in the great state of MN to the friendly city of St.Paul. All I got to say is Eastside Boy will bring home the bacon!!!!
Eastside Boy, we're all hoping that one of us here in the Cooler brings home the bacon. Each of us though is sharing our ideas. We'll all end up at the same park eventually. That's what makes the hunt so much fun. Also, everyone is invited to join in the digging. So Minneapolis folks are welcome to cross over to St. Paul.
Mom is kind enough to limit the hunting ground to just Ramsey County. RC is big enough as it is without adding Minneapolis. It would be nice though if a hunt would be during the summer time. Warmer weather seems more enjoyable to hunt but harder to hide the medallion.
Treasure Digger, I'm sure she was very serious. But, I think it is so confidential, the employees feel comfortable saying anything they wish without compromising the integrity of the hunt. Except for those 2 people who know, the rest know nuttin.
Treasure, what are you talking about when you say Mom? Don't understand that. Also, Highland isn't in Maplewood...case you didn't know. Good luck all. I'll check in tomorrow.
Mom is Pioneer Planet. Since they are sponsoring the big event, everyone refers to the PP as Mom. I know Highland is part of Maplewood but part of the Park is. Only the southern tip is considered part of St. Paul. People keep refering back to the fact that Maplewood said they would sue Mom if the medallion was ever hidden in their city again. The split between the two cities is what I was told by another fellow hunter. Really didn't think the infor. was incorrect but I guess maybe I should check it out.
Treasure Digger if you refer back to my message I did welcome those Minneaplois people and hope they come and spend some money in the friendly city of St.Paul. As a matter of fact they don't have to worry about a convention center tax or entertainment tax. There money will go alot further in St.Paul
Do any of you think that fairway or green from the first clue mean anything?
YES, I DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What does it mean snohunter?
HEY SNOWDIGGER,talk some more!
I think fairway and green are a long shot.... but i DO think that they were used to set up the rhyme for scene (which may somehow refer to movies, TV, etc.)

What's your idea on the clue??????
Dave
,
what do you mean?
I really don't think it means much. What makes you think its in a videotape case?
anyway, whatever
Hey hunters!!!!Here we go again!!! Sorry!! Rob and I could not make it last night to McGoverns! I tried to get out of work but couldnt!!!! I am soooo ready!!!!Can't wait to see you all out there!!!! Tape case is a real reach....(tongue-in-cheek reference to reading too much into 1st clue...) Scene implies movie scene implies tape case.....
I've had a lotta coffee today!
,
I think just the opposite o'you, Hollywood!
Think "scene" was used to rhyme with "green" (Such a *nice* colour!)
Usually when they warn you to not tear up stuff, ittiz usually more generic - like, "Bee nice and don't go mutalating anything."
This is much more specific. So...
St. Paul park, on/near/by/close to a golf course!
Dont read too much into the first clue it usually doesnt say that much
but it might be saying more than I think too
"please don't disturb" - hotel "won't be caught" - jail The medallion OBVIOUSLY will be found at Harriet Island, directly across ole Miss from the jail and the Radisson! I'm gonna grab my magic Frisbee and get right over.
Human 24!
Your insight serves you well......
But remember, it could be used to serve the Emperor.....
(kidding - obscure Star Wars reference..)
Seriously - I like your reasoning.... SCENE could be 'scene of the crime' (downtown St. Paul, hangout of John Dillinger, etc.)
Go Human 24 Go!!!!

Yes, beginning of Mississippi

Was the clue writer ever online last year? I heard that he was going to be and then I saw nothing after that.
Hi, Medallionhound. So what do you think about AllieGo's info. on Highland. Doesn't sound much like the perfect location for a big hunt with lots of people.
Hi everyone, looking forward to the hunt. Has the medallion ever been placed on the capitol grounds?
I talked to someone at the Pioneer Press and she told me that only 2 people know where the Medallion is hidden. Storm, yes the Medallion was at the State Capital. I believe it was hidden in ear muffs.

Happy to be on board again this year.I'm looking forward to big crowds this year. I will be rounding up the crew and start digging on thursday.

I've got to sign out for a while but I'll be back real soon. Happy noodling to all.

Treasure, Highland Park is in the southern most part of St. Paul. Many miles from Maplewood. Are you referring to Phalen?
Treasure Digger if you refer back to my message I did welcome those Minneaplois people and hope they come and spend some money in the friendly city of St.Paul. As a matter of fact they don't have to worry about a convention center tax or entertainment tax. There money will go alot further in St.Paul
Storm you are correct about Phalen. Maplewood borders St. Paul at Phalen
Treasure, were there lawsuits by Phalen residents the last time it was hidden there? That might rule this location out.
What is everyone thinking about the first clue.
