It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.
gold coat
south isnt bad thought....that gives you highland, and battlecreek
The road inside of PHALEN IS CALLED LAKESIDE AVE. The little turn around at the end is called view place. The map that I have says so. It's still to early to tell, but I think Highland. I think (so far) that the clue "wrong scene" does mean stay off the golf course , BUT WHAT IS THE RIGHT SCENE???? Disk golf corse is o.k. while the other is not. Clue 2: haven't studied ti enough. Airplanes is my first thought. Which again leads me to Highland.
I have a book in front of me with all the golf courses in St. Paul. I'll list only the public courses: Fort Snelling Golf Club, Highland Park GC, Maple Hills Golf Center & Phalen Golf Course. That's it for public.
There are things that are different this year from other years. The first being the $10,000 purse! Most people have been assuming a large park to accommodate the large expected crowds. There are only a few large parks in St. Paul...which we were given for sure in clue # 1. If we assume the large park, which one doesn't have a golf course? Battle Creek. And I truly wonder about that. So in my way of thinking...and I'm not sure about my thoughts here...but that leaves Phalen, Como and Highland. If we eliminate Como because of the slide, that leaves Phalen and Highland.
They probably had some complaints - people pissed off last year because some hunters dug part of a golf course - this same thing happened a few years back, and that's all it means. The last three years ('96, '97, '98), the 1st clue explanation only referenced the fact that it was in a ST. Paul or Ramsey Park - nothing more.
Part of Phalen is in Maplewood, too. Most of Battle Creek is St. Paul. MJ -- Don't you really think ittiz too soon for it to be at Como again??! It was only 2 years ago!
I think the golf course reference means, don't dig up "any" golf course. Doesn't pin point a park with a golf course. Lots of people will be at parks with golf courses and they are telling hunters to stay off.
MJ...wheelock was the founder of the st paul paper, we think this year is all about history, so that means phalen because of wheelock or highland because thats the start of this craze we call fun!!!
But Phalen just oozes rite into Keller - and Keller's in Maplewood! It would be harder to get confused at Battle Creek, because the part that's in Maplewood izz STREETS away from the part that's in St. Paul!
Scene could also be artistic activities. Doesn't necessarily mean a negative scene. If Maplewood is so against the medallion being hidden in Maplewood, then ittiz not in Battle Creek, nor Phalen, because some parts of each park borders with Maplewood, and will sustain much digging during the hunt. Therefore, Como seems the most logical. Even though it was there only two years ago. The Press can do *anything* they want with the medallion. And has said so.
IMHO, *if* "flying downhill" refers to sledding, *then* the rest of the clue tells us it is *not* buried/hidden on a sledding hill, but that there is a sledding hill nearby. So, don't be too close to the action (lights/action/camera!!! scene!!!) could refer to not getting knocked onto your can by sledders.
Are there any drive-in movie theatres left *in* St. Paul. Naw. That wouldn't be a park, would it? Nevermind.
I've got to get some Zzzz's. I will be trying to think of a park that is *known* for sledding/skiing/etc - downhill, but is BIG enough to "stay away from the 'action'."
Point to Ponder... The Original location of the PP is across from a new Park where the Delta Queen docks in the good ole' summertime. I do not know the name of this park. It might be "down" there.
The history of the paper though may play a part in where they decide to hide it. It will be interesting to see if a clue comes out that talks of Wheelock.

That may be the case Terry, but no streets are *inkled* in either clue. Think of attractions, think of flying downhill, think of . . . . I'm outta here!! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!

Terry--it's been there before.....
And MJ, you're just the person to knock them flying if they're standing where YOU want to dig!!! LOL!!!
Mom, there's thin ice on Phalen this year... Do they have the races there EVERY year????
And Ford Pkwy would narrow things down when referred to again *later*! Because they'd never think anybody would guess it this early.
When Vicki said "not sleding" I immediately thought o'Battle Creek.
Stop worring about Maplewood!!!! Have they come out on the front page and said that they will sue? Or izit hearsay?

its DOWNHILL not flying down...don't mess this up. POPULAR means lots of people

POP-pop can

.
there isn't a LAKE anywhere noted in the clues people
I don't understand why everyone thinks that it's near the sledding/skiing/whatever. Sounds to me like you need to stay away from all that.
I've got two windows going, and keep going back to clue #1. I don't know *how* you folks have come up with *any* street name yet?? Hmmmmmmmm.
Maplewood said very publicly the last time the medallion was at Wakefield that they would sue. The medallion was not welcome there.
MJ, "scene"
Lincoln was shot in Ford Theatre... Ford Pkwy.
I think the first clue is telling us to stay off the golf courses, and that's it...#2 is much more indepth
Flying Downhill- Falls? Hidden Falls?
.

a scene could mean anything! don't connect it with Ford Parkway
Vicki, GMTA.
Ah, Vicki, thanks. But I'll hunt my way, you're free to hunt yours. I'll connect whatever I please.

so do you guys think that it IS at a park w/ a golf course and they are just saying to stay off???
or
no golf course?

I will be back at 4:30 am!
Gold, there's nothing regarding *any* history (Wheelock) in clue #1 or #2. We're reading streets into nothing!
Eags, I think you've aced #2... Now to just noodle *which* park to watch out for the flying kiddies on "Rosebuds"!!!!
.

what is a popular outdoor attraction?

definitely stay away from a popular outdoor attraction
Step: May I ask a question? Why do you keep posting a "."?
Sledding and skiing are popular outdoor attractions in the winter. What about the summer?
I think... I just LOVE being so decisive!!!
Phalen, Highland Park, Battle Creek - if the golf course-thingy is a red herring...
.
Hang-gliding?
Ter, "Wheelock" won't bee used. Was used in 73...
Ah, one o'the years I gotta get typed and get to Greg!
sorry eagle--i just want to read sometimes and i cant do that without typing something.....
