You know there are some great, if small, hills in Newell Park. Plus, Rosebud is an obvious reference to the rec center manager there, whose middle name is Rose. Geez, Mead, dare I say you should get a clue? See you all at Newell!
Phalen has sledding, nice thinking about water and wood being a golf course, but would they golf us 2 years in a row? Maybe the place where kids like to zoom is a reference other than sledding? like to get high. I know some gets who love to drive very fast down water street cuz they can get air on some big bump somewhere. I do think the first line of clue 3 is a reerence to an outdoor garden, but isnt there a Rose street somewhere?
By looking at a on-line map I see Rose street goes by Phalen and ends up near Como, but Loeb Lake park is somewhere in between, does anyone know anything about Loeb? and how does clue #3 fit Mounds, I think it dosnt.
Rose ave. also goes into Como Sr. High, where I know they do plenty of "bud." I would say either Como, Marydale park (the real name for Leob Lake park), or the high school. From a map I have, it looks like Marydale isn't very flat.
You came to the right person, the wealth of knowledge. Loeb Lake as it's formerly known as (New Name Mary-Dale Park). This is on Maryland Ave. & Dale St. Hence the name. The Rosebud clue is generally the clue ( #3) where he tells you what it's going to be found in or attached to. Glued to a plastic rosebud, a container with a rosebud on the top etc. (that is why you could search in mounds park..........But try Highland the clues make more sense.
Oh that dreaded Como Park issue. It was hidden there last year, across the street from the Conservatory on Eastbrook. I had heard that there is construction going on over there as of now. When I look at the park book, there is a monument in Como Park off on Midway Parkway the Clarence Curran Hodgson Field Monument "Larry Ho" with the inscription "He left the roses here". Could it be, again???
Give some feedback on this idea. My gut instincts are still telling me Mounds Park or Phalen and roses in the clue might mean something that it is buried in. Usually Clue 2 to 3 tells us what they put that little needle-in-haystack in.
Hey, Greg Sax, It's good to hear that I'm not the only one who looks for hidden (more clever) meanings in the clues -- I keep wanting to give the clue-giver more credit than I should.
Hooking up Rose to Marydale/Loeb is a neat idea but there isn't much "scenery all around." I grew up just 2 blocks away so I'm pretty familiar with the territory. There's only a couple of possible sledding locations, too, and one of them brings you up near a railroad track (too dangerous). It hasn't been at Marydale since 1972...so maybe. As for the Rose connection to Newell - too obscure. I don't think they would alienate potential diggers with that. Remember: by clue #3 last year all we had was a northern park, a speed limit, and the visibility of Bandana Square (if you were really clever). Clue #4 gave us "Cuomo." Tonight's clue should do the trick.
Forget Marydale.. There is nothing there. Another thing to consider is that Rose also ends at;Edgewater park/Beaver Lake,Phalen,Como Park,
and several playgrounds. There is a street at mounds that is named Thorn@Eral and ends at Mounds. If you however find your kid sledding there they will be at the bottom of the cliff, and a little dead. I don't now about that aspect.

St.Paul Parks and Rec. NO THEY DON'T TELL ME WHERE IT IS!
I'm thinking Hidden Falls park. There's definite scenery & high ground. Obvious water & woods (maybe too obvious). Is there any sledding there? Or, as someone already mentioned, the word "zoom" could mean kids getting drunk or high - I know kids like to do that there. (But, it would be kind of tacky putting that in a clue though).
On lunch time we took a visual view at Mounds Park. There is activity out there. There have been diggers at the outlook, but no slidding area for the kids. There is a small area west of the beacon where there was some sliding activity. We are still stumped on the clue word "Rosebud". I think this is trying to tell us a person, name, or thing, a noun. Why is the word in parantheses and capitalized? Also the word zoom on our spell checker gives the meaning "swiftly (airplane).Well,we need another CLUE!!!! Great whether for a hunt today.
Very active minds out there! Its only day three though, so don't start obsessing. Take closer looks at the Treasure Hunter's Guide and perhaps you'll figure it out before clue #5. Feel free to say hi to me at the park this year. You'll find me near my "Treasure Maps" display. Happy hunting, Steve Worthman/Hunter's Press.
just got back from nearby Phalen and I'd have to say there ain't no sledd'en thar. These guys who write the clues never get too deep. Speaking of which, with only 8 inches on the ground look for me with my Toro.
Does anyone remember a bandshell in a Roseville Park? There was a large stone-enlay of a rose in front of this bandshell. Also there was a huge playgound/area close to the bandshell in the park. (Aplace where kids go zoom?)
To All: this ain't a flame, but please think about following the thread of our conversation before posting. Many good thoughts lie in past posts; To CK1: As I recall, Steve's guide contains some nice drawings of park layouts that street maps don't give you - could be helpful for those "near 3 trees" kinds of clues; To Mr. Know It All: No brothers but lots of friends in the Rice Street area; give me an age group and I can drop some names; Speaking of Rice Street: McCarron's is unlikely as it's in Roseville. Same goes for all places that don't actually end in "Park." Aside from 1989, the year it was at the Capitol Grounds, it hasn't been anywhere other than at an official public "Park" since 1969. It has never been at a recreation center like Oxford or North Dale so I wouldn't even consider looking at a place like that. People do every year anyway!
I was thinking mounds park my self, as everything so far is ther. the zooming could be the binokulars, not spelled right but the meaning is there. you can zoom in on any thing and kids love them.
You're all village idiots! I know where it is already. The third clue gave it away. The clue "Rosebud' has nothing to do with Citizen Cain. Think people, THINK!
Hey, n.k.o.b., What do you say we do a "Fake Find" tonight at Phalen?
You know there are some great, if small, hills in Newell Park. Plus, Rosebud is an obvious reference to the rec center manager there, whose middle name is Rose. Geez, Mead, dare I say you should get a clue? See you all at Newell!
Hey has anyone heard from JUST ME!!!! She was on here last year and had some great Ideas. (complex thinker)

Rose street is 1 block south of Maryland!
By looking at a on-line map I see Rose street goes by Phalen and ends up near Como, but Loeb Lake park is somewhere in between, does anyone know anything about Loeb? and how does clue #3 fit Mounds, I think it dosnt.

maybe rose refers to a type of rose-medallion,[could give pleasure] should we be concentrating on 'a place where kids like to zoom'. see you all soon

Has anyone thought of zoom as a possible meaning of a go-cart
track? How about Mccarrons, it's on the border of roseville.
Any thoughts?
Hey Greg Sax, Did you have a brother named Paul? Or was that a different family. I grew up by St. Bernard's

ANYONE THOUGHT OF THE ROSEVILLE OVAL? HOW ABOUT THORNE STREET IN MOUNDS PARK? WHAT ABOUT IT BEING IN A BALL IN REGUARDS TO PETE ROSE!

You can read too much into the clues! Careful!!

Rosebud- is refeering to the movie Citizen Cane - The rosebud in the movie is Orson Wells sled! Zoom- means sliding -
im thinking mounds park "rosebud" refeering to the sled in the movie orson wells maybe close to sleding hill buuuuuuutttttttttt not there !!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, Steve- At which park will you be digging? And tell us more about "The Guide..." I hear a few of the past winners have used it. Is that true?
Hey...Where is Mounds Park?
Does anyone remember a bandshell in a Roseville Park? There was a large stone-enlay of a rose in front of this bandshell. Also there was a huge playgound/area close to the bandshell in the park. (Aplace where kids go zoom?)
good idea - except the first clue says St. Paul.

Let's narrow down the park:
Clue # 2: Does "High Ground" mean Highland?
Does anyone know of any small little unknown parks that might fit? cuz its always the same parks over and over.
Could high ground be refering to a street name as in "summit" summit ave. MMMM.......There is a little known park right off of summit ave.
I just might have to grab my shovel! Tally Ho!
I think that Thorn street is a good guess. Especially since it runs through Indian Mounds Park.
Does anyone know if there is Sledding/swings/kids-go-zoom areas at Hidden Falls? Highland Park fits all of our current tidbits to date as well.
I was thinking mounds park my self, as everything so far is ther. the zooming could be the binokulars, not spelled right but the meaning is there. you can zoom in on any thing and kids love them.

Where do I think it is? You think I'm gonna tell you jack-asses? I know where it is, but I ain't telling you or any other slack-jawed yokel that asks.
I know! I know! It's in a St. Paul park!
you forgot the quotations around crap!
Anyone in their right mind would guess that the medallion's not at Como Park or Harriet Island!
